UPDATE: Group buy on door weatherstrip
SUBARU3 replied to RenaissanceMan's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Count me in for a batch too! $50 bucks worth I guess/ 50 feet. Gen 1 and gen 2 should be nearly the same. Todd -
134A systems use a MUCH larger condenser than the older R12 Systems. That's why new 134A systems run as cold as the previous R12 systems. Replace with the LARGEST condenser you can fit and or use high cfm fans. Todd

I'm puttting in a trans cooler on my 95 Legacy 4EAT. I'm installing cooler after the radiator cooler. So out from trans, into radiator, out of radiator, into external cooler and then back to trans. Question....which line is the inflow and outflow? There are 2 lines into the trans, one at the rear/ drivers side and one closer to the front/drivers side. Which line pumps the fluid OUT of the trans? Thanks!! Todd

Are ebay timing belts any good?
SUBARU3 replied to glfarnes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have used PCI twice. Nice quality and 1 of the pulleys was identical to Subarus. Todd -
Well, I pulled the rear defog switch and did not find those "screw outs". I pryed the switch apart and found the single bulb, It is the same small one you mentioned. Now if I can get the switch back together! The front fog lights has the 2 screw outs you mention. Next...I'm looking at the hazard switch. It doesn't light either. Todd

We are doing a special order for Gen 1's for EXACTLY the same reason!!! See the sticky at the top of the Historic Forum. Get a new rubber. There are certain rubber things that cause major problems when they fail. A Subaru front gasket and you can guess the other! LOL I think Precision Replacement parts has the gasket still. http://www.prp.com If not, I would suggest getting special order started. They will make a batch for 25 or more. I'm POSITIVE you could get 25 to buy NEW gen 2 windshield rubber. Todd

Am I missing a skid plate?
SUBARU3 replied to danrenfroe2016's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
The stock skid plate was a small/lite weight pan that fastened to the crossmember and the the front radiator support. The skid plate that goes with the optional push bar, was an accessory. It was a HUGE, VERY HEAVY and thick piece of steel, that fastened to the bottom of the push bar. It had holes in it to change the oil. (Although you would make the biggest mess trying to do it). This skid plate was overkill and a PITA. It was the first thing I got rid of!! If one needs that heavy of a skid plate, you may save your engine, but you are destroying the rest of the BRAT!!! You could make one though that was not so big, thick and heavy I guess. The stock skid plate is OK. Todd -
Hate to pop the bubble, but $2500 is a lowball offer. If this car is as clean and maintained as you say, also being the last of the 2.2 N-Interference engines, I'd say it closer to the NADA book of $3700-$4000. People who maintain cars well, generally do so to preserve valve. If you paid $3700, You would still have a GREAT car a a good price. If you offered me $2500, I'd say walk dude! But if you get it for that price it would be a GREAT deal! Todd

Help revive my 81 Brat
SUBARU3 replied to overunder's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
The voltage regulator, or alternator is out. The voltage regulator supplies power to the fuel pump. Often this portion of the VR fails and you run into a no fuel situation. Additionally, if your altermator is out, you will not get power to the voltage regulator either and thus, no power to the fuel pump. The design is this: Power from the alternator is needed in order for the VR to in turn start power delivery to the fuel pump. So a failed alternator=no power to VR=no power to the fuel pump. Or: Alternator is good=power to VR, but VR has a failed fuel pump circuit=no power to the fuel pump. Check alternator output. If good. Check to make sure fuel pump is working. If not, replace VR. You also may have an intermittent VR failure. Also, remember that fuel will evaporate from the carb if sitting a long time. You have NO fuel pump delivery until the engine starts. So you may have to prime the carb to get started. Just run a wure from battery + to fuel pump till it stops running. -
I have a good drivesahft and a new universal joint, (in box) if you are interested. Todd

Yes, the 4WD wagon and the BRAT use the same strut. The 2WDs use a different one. Very similar, but diffrent due to the adjustable feature. Todd

I don't have a spare, but remember that the left and the right are the same. You can use a hub from ANY Subaru from 1975-1979 (cars) and 1977-1981 (BRAT) I think you can even use a hub from Gen 2 stuff. 1980- cars and 1982- BRATs and up. (Someone correct me on this). Be my own cherry picker: Really possible?
SUBARU3 replied to DerFahrer's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Use a hoist! Your back is PRECIOUS! (and easily damaged) Your fenders are easily damaged too!! Also, you need some control in getting it back in and aligned on the trans. I would fine it impossible to do that without a lift to support and angle the engine. Good Luck! Todd -
