  1. The new spot is in North Sultan, go up the Sultan Basin road, turn left on 116th, go past the gate, and there it is. I saw a bunch of trails going around in the woods. It's PUD property, but they allow public access. A friend who lives up top of Sultan Basin road told me they don't close the gate anymore. Probably locked too many peeps in.
  2. Trying to upload pix, real PITA.Old bushing on left. New cone shaped bushing on right. Looks right at home on the radius rod.
  3. Damn, need to get up there sometime. This place is off Hwy 9 by Lake Cavanaugh? In Skagit?
  4. I've seen aftermarket coilover kits that adapt to stock struts, just gotta do some welding. Prolly better to upgrade with later gen stock setup, cheaper, readily avalable. Known to work well too.
  5. Anybody ever wheel around here? Not too gnarly, but there is mass snow in the winter. I just found another nice wheeling spot right outside of town. Shooting is legal too!!!! It is NOT legal to shoot further up toward Spada Lake(past Kellogg Lake road). Did a little wheeling in this new area, fun for a Subaru. Need to explore a bit more.
  6. I've blown three transmissions with that tiny little thing and a Kevlar clutch. The durability issue must be some misinformation I picked up a few years ago. I don't have actual experience yet.
  7. Should do a RWD mod and put big n little tire setup for an old school hotrod look. The stock e-brake is awesome for linelock style burnouts.
  8. Or maybe the Brat...... Bet I could make it work in the Legacy......
  9. What country is that right hand drive Brat from?
  10. I'm getting ready to put my wagon back together. The lower control arm bushings have some protrusion out one side. Is the protrusion supposed to face toward the front or rear? Also, my radius rod bushings are different than the originals, they're cone shaped. Might be for a 1st gen, I bought them a couple years ago. Would these bushings work?
  11. That's a real nice wagon you have there. Try a dealership for the oil pump. My friend got one there, and it was cheaper than the auto parts store.
  12. 3.90 at the diff. I don't know the overall ratio. Seems like I might put it in the wagon. I just need a few more parts and then I can put it back together. Gotta hit PAP. And get a new clutch disc for the fatter input shaft on the 5 speed. Have to use the flywheel that's on the EA71. I think it came out of an EA82 type car in Japan. It came with an EA82 style pitch stop on the bellhousing.
  13. ZERO mile rebuilt. Picked it up a while back (month or two). Can't decide which vehicle to put it in. Mistook it for a Legacy tranny, not too familar(yet). I could put it in the Brat, Weberized, EA82 intake, Cherry Bomb, 25.5" passenger radials on 14" Pug steelies, stock suspension. Or I could put it in the '80 GL wagon, trail rig buildup(in process), 4" lift, 4 speed d/r swap mated to a low mile JDM EA71(that's right, EA71), soon to be Weberized. Haven't got tires yet(haven't drove it for a couple years). The Brat is my usual get around vehicle if I'm not driving the Legacy. The wagon is a (barely) street legal off roader which won't be a daily driver, unless I break down two vehicles at once. I know the 5 speed has lower low range, but the 4 speed is more durable.
  14. How were the Monroe struts compared to the KYB's? I understand that the Monroe has the adjustable spring perch, and the KYB doesnt.
  15. Going to purchase some shocks and struts for my '80 GL with 4"lift. Interested in other peoples setups and opinions. Seems like KYB is pretty popular, but am wondering how other brands fare offroad.
  16. ''from what i have found sti springs are shorter then legacy springs, if you wanted that more slammed looked you could put the sti springs on your legacy struts. the spring perches on the sti struts are higher then the legacys so that takes up for the shorter spring. " How much difference between the two?
  17. My Legacy is a '90, with the tapered rear springs. I'm not looking to slam the car, just upgrade. I think it does lower about one inch. For the rear I think I'm supposed to use Legacy tophats on STI struts. The STI tophat's bolt spacing is a bit wider than the Legacy.
  18. Scored a set of '04 STI springs for the Legacy. There is only one thing that's confusing me. Do I need to get STI front struts and put the Legacy top mounts on them, or use the Legacy struts with STI spring perches(with Legacy top mounts, of course)?
  19. Might drive up there and check it out. Too bad I can't race prep one of my Subarus.
  20. Now that's pretty cool, welding without a welder. How did that work out? Two seperate vehicles idling to a common 24 volt feed and ground? What's the duty cycle? I'm only using two 1000 amp heavy duty(NOT DEEP CYCLE) commercial truck batteries atm. Does that have a consistent charge? No damage to the vehicles battery(ies) or charging system(s)? Is sharing a 24 volt ground between two separate 12 volt charging systems have any bad effect?
  21. Sorry, I'm not interested in selling it, but you would love how it starts right up with only a pull or two.
  22. Yeah, that's the one in the link above. Came off a crappy scooter I bought at Schucks. Torquey little thing too. I would love to get the verticle version for a prop shaft off an old Sears outboard for my 12' Sears flat bottom fish slayer.
  23. Crankcase blowby buildup in normal running condition is common if you don't have a PVC system to draw a vacuum to remove crankcase pressure buildup caused by extreme temperatures and vaporizing hydrocarbons (and probably a few other things some Certified mechanics here can tell you(and correct me if I'm wrong)). Could be something else though. You ever top off your oil a little too much and turn sharp corner a bit fast? I've seen a cool smoke show from something like that.(In a Subaru, no less). Hope this didn't get off topic. But, MAINTAIN YOUR PVC SYSTEM! It's there for a reason.
