  1. "Weld 'er up fer fiddy bux." Don't really have a need for lugging two bigass batteries around let alone a welder, but I'm just curious about the charging systems everybody got. Yet, alot of y'all got some cool welders. Git r dun.
  2. Well, my rig has her share of battle scars, but almost always got me home from wheeling. Don't get me to work so well though. I think gremlins are more active in the morning rush hour environment than out in the woods.
  3. Anybody got one in your rig? I just bought one, and want to set up a charging system to keep the two 1000 amp truck batteries charged. The welder is a 24 volt Century Portable MIG. The charging system doesn't necessarily have to be running off the vehicle engine in a dual alternator setup. I happen to have a little 33cc Robin Subaru 4 stroke that I could use to build a "generator" of sorts with two high amp alternators.
  4. Old Subarus (and alot of other foreign cars) are really easy to steal cuz the crappy door and ignition locks. My buddy can open my Brat with his Subaru key. I can do the same with his Hatch. Used to be able to start my old wagon with a pocketknife or screwdriver (I bypassed it when it went out and now use a toggle switch and push button start so nobody can drive it but me). My old wagon got stolen like 8 years ago by using a key in the ignition. He had to bust out two windows to get in though. I had an old Tercel that was also stolen several years ago by some drug addict(s) by jiggling a key. I can even get into my brother's Probe and start it with my old wagon's key. I usually park my vehicles in the back yard behind a locked gate, with a clear shot with a .22 subsonic(so the neighbors won't get freaked out). Way too many drug addict losers in my hood.
  5. Damn straight. Running and driving. PAP in Lynnwood and Arlington always have a handfull of dual range 5 speeds. I just happened to buy a zero mile rebuilt for $250. Mistook it for a Legacy tranny til I saw the linkage on the side. Gonna keep it anyway.
  6. AWD would be a nightmare to make work. 2WD is way easier. I think an auto would hold up just fine in a 1500 lb vehicle. And turbo, wheelies at every stoplight!
  7. If it's too loud, he's too old. On topic though, I read somewhere that 2" secondary pipe is optimal for an EA81.
  8. By Standard, I mean the actual model of the car. Subaru Standard, they're pretty rare. You want to keep that baby. Body looks good. Is it a single range 4wd or dual range? My buddy has a Standard, originally came with a single range til he swapped a dual range.
  9. Hit up Lynwood PAP, they may still have an XT6 there with all glass intact. That was a few weeks ago though.
  10. That Hatch looks like a Standard, with the round headlights. Is it 4wd?
  11. 10 pounder would smash it like a beer can. Just install it and do a little wheeling for self clearance.
  12. Driver's door, '90 Legacy. Getting ready for a keyless entery. I've figured out all but one wire on the connector to the actuator. It's red with yellow stripe. Does anybody know what this one is for?
  13. That's the last time I let the wife drive. For sure this time.
  14. Does anybody know what a stock EJ22 can draw? Stock I mean bone stock, intake/exhaust, but also interested in A/M muffler/intake on stock motor.
  15. My Brat ran on three cylinders twice, first one a pushrod popped loose on an intake valve, second a bad spark plug wire didn't fire the plug ( I even took the plug out and fired up the motor, it ran, pretty loud with air pulsating out of the plug hole). EA81 though. Another three cylinder runner, my brother has a Probe GT (turbo, 10 psi, TurboXS BC, chip), one spark plug hole stripped, he revved a bit, I was standing in front of the car, damn near shot me in the head with the plug!
  16. I believe normal engine vacuum at idle would be 18-22" HG. 28" HG is a full vacuum.
  17. Anybody ever install a MSD or Accel or any other aftermarket ignition system to a N/A EJ22? I was browsing through my Summit catalog and saw an MSD DIS-2 for distributorless ignitions, got me thinking of getting one, but don't want to compromise the reliability of my 172k bone stock never rebuilt motor, but want something to complement the Flowmaster I had installed on the stock exhaust not just in performance, but fuel economy too.
  18. Check out partsamerica.com. They got em like $20.99 each if you buy online. I just take a printout to the store they have the part(s) in stock. Saves hella money over regular store price.
  19. Got car plates on my Brat here in WA. I wanted truck plates but it was registered originally as a car, so they gave me car plates. Most other Brats around here have truck plates though.
