1979 Subaru Brat Part-Out
How much for the interior passenger grab handle (overhead) and the driver's side mirror and gasket?
-
Just bought a '78 wagon
Bolt holes go through to the underneath/outside which means the bolts rust. The first few turns are fine until the rust binds up and... You know the rest.

Gearbox info Help?
OK one more time for prosperity... There was NEVER an EA81 five speed 4wd gearbox. If it has five speeds and 4wd it is a (shorter) EA82 gearbox.

Rescued 1979 Subaru Wagon, now i need help..
You cannot go prior to 1977 as this is a stage 2 and basically nothing from a stage 1 will fit. Except for the rear hatch and roof panel EVERYTHING is completely different.

EA81 windscreen and rubber install ideas ?
Jono, one of my OEM service books also recommends sealant be used but just a small amount right in the base of seaL. Yes it makes whatever cord you use for installation single use!

1st Gen Brat Dome Light Removal
Scott although this is an earlier light (1974), the principle is the same. There is a small tab on the lens that you have to move around until it is near the switch, then the lens can then be prised off.

Do these help?

1st Gen Brat Dome Light Removal
You have to turn the light around until you find the 'gap' in the metal base plate near the switch. Just gently move the light around while applying downward pressure and once the tab is in the gap it can be removed... Easier to do than it sounds!

Hi New to the forum, am a serious Subaru nut
I have an engine from one of those FJ1600 open wheelers but not the whole thing! What does your DL look like (apart from being rusty!)?

The "help me finish my coupe" thread
I went to take a photo of my coupe but being assembled it is not clear how it all goes together. There are tiny semicircle 'cutouts' in the glass and I think they just sit on the brackets... I have the picture from the parts catalogue, perhaps that might help you?

My 73' Coupe Restoration
Supply and demand! With eatly Subarus there simply is not the demand from the general public to push prices up. Sure this may change with time but I don't see any early Subaru attaining the prices of Mazda RX's or Datsun 1600s. The levels of desirability are simply not there... Yet!

1979 Brat DL "OH YOU COWL!"
The problem with the cowl, as Datsunrides has mentioned (and repaired on his coupe restoration!) is that there are 3 sections of metal that all come together in the cowl area. If you just repair under the dash area, for example, you will not effectively stop the rust in the other two sections of metal. Such a repair would only last 6 to 12 months before the rust makes plenty of new holes. It will then start spreading down the wheel arches and into the floor area before long. Sad but true... As an extremely temporary fix you could plug it up but you will have to fix it properly at some point in the future.

1982 Wagon
IDK, from the photos it doesn't look like it needs that much work... But they often look good in photos!

That cowl rust has killed more Gen 1 Subies than any other!

Yep handbrake cables go over the top of the tie rods and as Subafreak mentioned, there would have been rubber 'cable hangers' from the factory. However my 1978 wagon did not have the hangers for over 17 years and there has been no ill effects to the cables.

Thanks to Subafreak you have some photos! My parcel shelf is installed so will not reveal as much as these. Sorry Datsunrides, being winter here the sun is gone by the time I get home... Not good for photos.
