with the DP off just the turbo venting to the air it still only runs on 2 cylinders.. -

well, i've quadruple checked the t-belts.. one up one down.. in line with the center mark of the 3.. i unbolted the exhaust right after the DP and the RX idles now but its still running on 2 cylinders.. i changed the plugs, bought a new accell coil, new cap, yadda yadda.. no difference.. while its idleing i can pull the #3 and 4 fuel injector wires and it makes no difference.. if i pull the #1 and 2 it'll die.. so i'm certain #3 and 4 are the ones missing.. I can pull the injector out of the manifold and hold it open to the air and watch #3 and 4 pulse just like the should.. nice fine spray of fuel comes out as it should. and those plugs are fireing as well.. i did a compression check and got this #1 = 128 #2 = 130 #3 = 130 #4 = 127 so its got good compression as well.. all the sensors, disty, etc all came off my turbo wagon that ran great until i junked it due to rust.. i've come to the point where if i can't figure this out and no one else can the car is going to desapear outa my driveway.. i need 2 cars that run and drive reliably and this thing ain't cuttin it.. i might just get a wild hair up my arse to strip the stupid thing and sell it off for parts and stick the dr and lsd in my wagon along with the suspension.. haven't decided yet.. any other ideas on what to check to see whats wrong.. the engine came from Skip, so i'm pretty certain its not an internal engine issue.. we all know he knows his stuff.. -

nope, wires are on right, and cams were rotated.. double checked by Jules here in town too.. i did have a thought tho.. when you do the timing the fsm just says line up the flywheel marks, and slap it together really.. does it also have to be TDC? -

well i didn't do the headgaskets.. didn't go that far into it.. and the engine came from one of the most respected members on this board, so i don't have a reason to believe the engine is a dud.. when checking the spark i also used a screwdriver in the end of the plug wires. the spark jumped an inch+ across from the screwdriver to a strut bolt.. i was thinking maybe a weak coil.. but its only really missing on cylinders 3 and 4.. 1 and 2 are hittin fine.. tomorrow i am going to go get a new coil, and give it a whirl.... also going to pull the exhaust at the turbo and see if that has anything to do with it.. this was the original coil on the rx, and was swapped to the hatch, but is now back on the rx.. the hatch has been runnin fine, so i'd figure ther coil is fine? plug wires are also known good, no arching anywhere.. its just odd that it won't run even though everything is set right, and done step by step from my fsm.. been through the hole book and can't figure it out.. i even double checked the fuel injector wires to make sure they were on the right injector.. and yes it does matter according to the FSM.. -
well it started.. is running on 2 or 3 cylinders though.. deffinitely not all 4.. i tore down the timi ng, redid it all with the help of my FSM.. Jules double checked it.. so its right.. we brought it to TDC and set the disty.. still runs on 2 or 3.. i pulled the fuel injectors and watched them pulse.. they work fine.. plugs are new, and every plug is gettin fire.. (verified this) but the damn thing won't run right.. ecu is not spitting anything out at all.. only thing i saw during this hole ordeal is a long and 2 shorts.. thats it.. then it went away... another thought i am goin g to try tomorrow.. maybe the cats are hosed due to all the water that blew through them with the old engine? is this a possibility that they are dead causing too much backpressure which then causes the car to not run on all 4? it did blow the gasket out thats between the DP and centerpipe.. centerpipe and cat there only have a few thousand on it.. any other ideas? i've pretty much given up on it at this point.. if i can't get it running right its gonna get towed 2 miles to the junkyard behind my house.. am really tired of screwin with it...

yeah got that.. ground wire is bolted to the block, positive wire is bolted to the starter, and the little one that plugs in is plugged in.. sound right? -

i'm runnin an accel coil.. it originally came off the rx and went on my hatch when the rx blew up.. and i took it back off the hatch and put it on the rx for the startup.. so i know the coil is good.. but over a 1 inch space the spark is orange.. but one would think if it worked on the car before, was in use on the hatch, and now back on the original car, it would still fire the car even if its weak.. i think it might be in the fuel lines.. if not there i'll go buy a new coil and see is she runs.. ohh plug wires are 8mm spiral core accell wires -

i had that motor down to a bare block, lol.. so everything was done.. i know 100% that the t-belts are on correctly.. i unplugged the harness and back in twice.. and the ground wire is on the waterpipe.. guess i need to play with some fule lines, maybe i got them on wrong.. it was dark when i gave up for the night.. also breakin out the fsm for it too.. for fuel lines.. there are 3 metal lines on the intake, and only 2 from the strut tower.. wheres the 3rd one? and which hose goes on what line? would make sense if i'm tryin to pump fuel in it backwards, lol.. -
well i've swapped the motor, changed everything i could think of.. now i've plugged everything in, i get spark that will jump an inch from a screwdrive to a strut bolt. so yes i have spark.. i also have fuel getting to the fuel rails. so yes my fuel is pumping.. but the damn thing won't even attempt to start.. not even get a hint of a hit on any cylinder.. now if i had it outa time it would at least hit once in awhile on a cylinder here and there. i did change the fuel injectors before puttin it all back together.. and i forgot which plug went on which injector.. but i swapped plugs on the injectors in every way there is, and it made no difference... now i know theres a few vacuum lines still off but that shouldn't make it not attempt to start.. the car basically has spark, fuel, and sits there and cranks like a dead yugo.. is it possible my fuel injectors are frozen? although a couple of them were from my old turbo wagon, and they worked fine.. help

who's that dis'n the Justy?!
Meeky Moose replied to RallyJusty's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i could still take a justy due to the fact i have 4LOW, that cuts my gearing almost in half... a justy does not have this.. that would mean quicker acceleration for me.. not you... go out and find a ricer in a neon srt and see how fast he spanks your butt.. i can tell you right now my hatch will take a neon srt for a good 200 yards before he catches up.. just because i can accelerate faster until i hit 3rd gear.. then the neons power truely shows.. -
well i have heard endless things about headgaskets, and i know the old subaru gaskets were semi metalic 1 layer gaskets.. i was standing at the parts counter at the local dealer and saw some head gaskets.. so i inquired to what they were for.. a 2.5 engine.. i said neat.. but i looked at them closely and they were 5 or 6 layered solid metal gaskets.. much like a turbo outlet gasket would look like.. i didn't ask any specifics.. but to me i can't see how one of those would blow out so easily.. just curious.. sorry if i'm beatin a dead bush here..

i still say my hatch would leave a justy if we was racin.. lol ohh yeah the ecvt, what a wonderful lump that was.. glad that never showed its face in a gl hatchback.. ahh efi.. much to be desired there.. although its nothing a good weber can't fix, lol.. -

maybe no resemblance netween an early geo and a justy, but you gotta admit the early justy's looked an awful lot like a Yugo.. to put that big a tire on a justy, you'd have to cut the body off it Zapar. lol -

ok, so your justy will spank my ea81 in gas mileage.. but i highly doubt it'd give my RX a run for its money, lol and if me little hatch can take a neon srt for 200 yards i know it'll take a justy, lol.. one thing that it has that justy's don't is 4 low.. that makes for launching like nothing you ever saw.. the lifted hatch will pull the front wheels about 4" off the ground if you launch it hard.. i need to write 73hp on the side of my hatch so the ricers know whats spanking them light to light, haha and yeah they aren't true subaru's, on top of it.. -

you do the math, i can drive from home, to Baltimore washington international airport and back on 8 gallons of gas... thats 306 miles total.. and through DC everyone knows to keep up with traffic you drive 75-90.. done it twice now.. a justy's 3cyl is not as efficient as a well tuned 4cyl when doing 75-90 mph.. heck i don't think a justy can go 90 mph, lol.. the 12" donuts would fly off it.. anyways, not tryin to start a flame war just sayin that my old hatch can do just as good if not better than a justy.. -
Knock Knock....Need help
Meeky Moose replied to XTcollector's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah, just my .02 but my RX would run without the knock sensor as well, just not worth a damn... don't think that would cause your car not to start.. pretty sure its the same knock sensor as my RX but they were $250 at the dealer, and $125 at advance.. i got lucky and someone on the board had one fer me.. -
