EA82T starts and then stops immediately

it really sounds like its sucking air from some place that it shouldn't.. that would cause it to die and be hard to start.. -
want to know what redline is in an 87+ ea82T car.. i know the 85 and 86's were less than the 87+ and i have an 87+ engine in my 85'.. the redline in mine is 6k... this is an easy one for anyone with a 87+ ea82T car, hehe..

my FSM calls it a thermo switch.. it controls vacuum to the disty according to temperature.. $145 at the dealer.. dealer only part.. luckily i got mine from someone on the board.. its only found on 85' and 86' ea82T's.. 87 and up did not have this.. good luck in your search.. you can bypass it completely and the car will run like crap when its cold but at normal temp the car will run like it had a new switch.. to bypass it use 3 short pieces of tubuing and a t-connector.. route the hoses so they all go into the t-connector and the 3 metal lines that come from the intake.. its a good temporary fix.. -

don't forget the oil pan gasket.. its easy to change with the motor out, and a PITA with the engine in the car.. a little $3 gasket too.. lol remember RTV on both sides and clean the surfaces good (brass wire wheel works great) i am going to be doin the swap too soon.. i pulled the instrument cluster as well.. gonna put it in if the connectors are the same.. my best guess is they are except the auto might have an extra plug for the PRND21.. ohh and you need the 5-speed speedo cable as its a different length.. -

speaking of napa.. i remember my dad had to special order a master cylinder for his 68' t-bird.. it came in and all 4 mounting bolts were bent over.. he told the guy he isn't gonna take that and to order another one.. the guy absolutely refused, and said "you take this one or ya ain't getttin one" needless to say we left it there.. this was napa in ashland, or btw.. really looks to me like they repacked and booted it and gave it back to ya.. hate places that rip people off like that..

there is also a little hose that connect to the air intake tube. (the 3" round black one.) it sits facing the front of the car into the fuel rails.. check this one.. also check the one that comes off the passenger side valve cover and goes to that 3" round black tube.. any one of these off, would cause it to loose vacuum and suck air.. -
how much does an engine weigh??????

2 people can lift a complete turbo ea82 out of a car no problem.. did it a few weeks ago.. to get it outa the car hole, or stripped you need 2 people.. the 3rd would be for moral support, lol.. -
if ya look at any dolly you can rent, it has a big reflective sticker that says MAx speed 45 mph.. i'd say do what the sticker says and drive slower during the day.. if its daytime you don't have to really worry about lights..

my RX is too sportin a skip special.. although my 2wd turbo clutch slips if you romp on it when shifting.. if you shift, let it fully engage, then romp on it it doesn't slip at all.. go figure.. i'm waitin to see what Jules setup does since his flywheel was lightened more than mine.. if it doesn't slip then i know what needs to be done this summer.. otherwise my RX is smokin coolant that is, haha.. (small leak somewhere)

Meeky Moose replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well.. i don't think its your car.. its all spfi soobs in general, lol.. my 3at wagon was loud and slow too.. made the RX feel like a rocket, lol.. i'll report back and let ya know if my wagon gets any better when it gets a 5-speed.. my guess is it should at least be a little quicker than 0-60 in 35.4.. haha:eek: -

ding dong the wagons dead...
Meeky Moose replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well not too worried about it at this point... the RX is back on the road.. and we still have the little hatch.. so as long as they both run the wagon can sit fer awhile.. will prolly get miles and his crew to come play with it.. -

jules and I both have worked over 2 different gov's already.. and i changed the modulator at one point and it made the problem worse, lol.. the gov's do nothing, not matter what ya do to it.. and the front diff is eating them up anyways.. its just toast.... 5sp, PB 4wd is going in.. -
well on the way home with the new tags for the RX the wagon decided to start smoking like a pig.. and 2nd gear is completely gone now.. 1 and 3 work fine if you manually shift it, lol.. 1 shudderes bad from a dead stop as well.. but as far as the smokin goes i think the modulator went out and it sucked the trans fluid out the tailpipe, lol.. i was havin to put 1-2 quarts in it a week too.. ahh well good thing i have the stuff to convert.. in the meantime i'm drivin my RX
