sorry to hijack a post, but you mentioned your changin the interior from brown to grey? is your car PB 4wd 5-speed? if it is i need a brown shift knob with PB, shift boot, and center console piece around the boot. just thought i'd offer, just so ya keep me in mind when the time comes..
-
cheap 80w90 will get you by, under $2 a quart at any parts store... its what i put in mine.. not had any probs.. not sure on teh 5sp d/r pretty sure its just cosmetically different as well as the shift linkage and shifters.. i'd also imagine there is a bit of rewirreing that needs done to get all teh lights on the dash to function right..

oil cannot pass between the engine and a manual trans... maybe someone was putting motor oil in the trans? i know hondas and acuras use regular 30wieght motor oil in thier manual trans.. maybe someone thought soobs were the same.. at any rate when ya go doin the swap drain that puppy and put some good ole 80w90 in it.. the rear main seal just seals the crankcase from leaking onto the clutch..

from your descriptions of stuff, it really sounds like an RX.. if you part it let me know, theres a few things i want and will pay nicely for

ohh i believe i tried hard enough subiemech.. took the vice grips and clamped them down using a pair of channel locks.. the teeth on the vice grips were embedded in the plug.. all it did was chew off another 1/4" of the plug, it wouldn't budge.. gonna get a siphon and siphon the oil out through the dipstick to get it changed.. then when i do the tranny swap i'm gonna do the oil pan, rear main, etc while the trans is out.. will be easier..

Weber Carb Group Buy

if you have the right adaptor plate and low profile air filter assembly for an ea81 i'd be in for this... the normal hieght air cleaner is too tall for a stock hieght ea81 car.. thus the need for the low profile aircleaner that is about 1" tall.. -
I think I just blew my engine
Meeky Moose replied to TROGDOR!'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
pm'ed you... there are always more engines and cars around.. although my pm is a solution temporarily.. there is this wagon in teh scrap yard down here for $350.. auto 2wd needs tranny.. or could be a shot gov and slippin bastard like mine.. .. at anyrate, its in like new condition, no rust, etc, very clean inside.. i know the engine runs smooth as new as well.. i'm sure your loyales 4wd train will fit right in either way let me know what goes on.. will help out if i can.. -
she says it blew up on her on teh side of the road.. she lives in rogue river / grants pass area in Oregon.. only reason i post this is cause she might be willin to get rid of the car she called (a pice of junk) its an ea81, 2wd wagon... think its automatic too, lol.. not sure on that one tho.. if theres any interest in it, i can have the wife call her and see if she wants to sell it.. i'm bettin some of you all could use parts and such.. and alot of ya out there are close... this prolly belongs in the marketplace.. dunno.. feel free to move it if it should be..

my check engine light is flashing?
Meeky Moose replied to Bekahs80Brat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
maybe the new pulley is just makin noise ? or going out too? hard to speculate on it.. if its running alright, oil pressure is ok, temperature is normal, and its just makin some funny new sound. i'd say drive it easy till Adam gets home.. if everything else is normal just has that noise, i'm sure its prolly nothing major.. ohh and keep tabs on the oil level and such.. i'm sure ya knew that tho -
not when the plug won't come out.. the pan is also a white color, looks burned, around the plug like it was heated at some point.. so i don't think that will help either.. the oil pan is leaking anyways so it needs to come off.. thanks MF.. guess i need to get it off and compare to one i have at the shop..

yeah i want the original checkered interior back in my car.. ship it frieght to where i work.. will be cheap and as a confirmation my 85' RX sedan does not have power steering.. the other difference is the mirrors on the front doors.. they are not mounted at the edge of the window.. they are mounted on the door below the corner of the window and stick out 1/2" from the window.. the 86's had them like every other soob.. the 85's were the only year that had those mirrors.. guess i need a close-up pic huh.. god help me if one gets broke huh? lol
-
will an oil pan from an ea82T fit on a spfi ea82? pretty sure they're the same but wanted to get a confirmation on that.. the oil plug in my wagon stripped off. looks like some jackass used threadlock on it.. so i get to replace the thing..

Overpriced Junk Yards Yuck
Meeky Moose replied to cole098's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i've found at this yard behind my house, if its a soob part (especially an 80's part) the guy always starts high, and you can offer him less and haggle for a few seconds and get it at pretty decent price.. i mean if you were sellin stuff for a living you'd set your prices hihg, to get those people that don't care. but would take less if offered less.. -
heh... if skip can run it, then it will work on a soob. lol you should know that by now.. my question is, how am i gonna mount a 4-barrel on my hatch? hmm.. although i am partial to my 32+ mpg.. me thinks with a 4-barrel i'd have my foot in it too much gettin about 12mpg, lol..
-
tell ya what, my 85' RX sedan does not say RX on the title.. it just says 4 door sedan.. also mine came factory with an LSD, d/r 5-speed, etc.. originally it also had checkerboard interior, but that was replaced a long time before i got the car (i want it back but can't find it anywhere) also it would have a regualr gauge cluster, and not a digidash my badging is almost non existent from the years.. so that one might not have any badging at all left. mine also says 4wd turbo on the center light plastic in the back.. i'd ask him if it had a digidash, thats the most distinctive feature i can think of that will determine if its a fully loaded gl-10 or an rx.. also the gl-10's had sunroof's, the RX's did not.. just my .02 have one sittin in my driveway..
-
it is possible to lift an ea82T out of the car with just 2 people.. done this several times now.. easiest way is to take all the accesories off (alternator, ac compressor, etc..) and the intake manifold.. this sheds 75lbs or so..

mpg/ rpm, what works best??
Meeky Moose replied to old sub freak's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well my ea81 hatch, all stock on the long trips i run at about 3500 rpms which is about 73 mph... gets 32mpg short trips to work it runs about 2000-2500 at 55-65.. gets about 26 mpg this way.. -
hehe is that a 4-barrel skip? sure looks like it, lol hmm time to mount a 650 edelbrock to my hatch, lol... my ea81 hatch has a stock hitachi.. 32+ mpg starts, runs fine, no offroading in it..

only warm feeling i'll get for it is when i heave it into the dumpster, lol.. i did figure out how to get the tranny to warm up faster tho so i don't have to sit in the driveway revvin the piss outa it to get it to move.. start the car to let it warm up for 5 min or so in the morning, but pull teh e-brake and put it in gear.. only slipped for about 5 seconds this morning when i went to take off, not the mnormal 5 minutes, lol.. temporary solution till it gets heaved.. -
just ignore the switch on the steering column.. never use mine.. lol was sorta a wasted feature imo.. and yes change out the door switch, will prolly fix your prob..

Stop me if you heard this one.. ;)
Meeky Moose replied to 4byRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
just my .02 but if you want a turbo car, its easier to buy a turbo car than go through the headache of rewireing the hole thing.. and just a fyi, the stock turbo ea82T's only have around 135 hp.. to get over 200 there is alot of time, money, and blown head gaskets involved.. i'm going to be sticking my 3 speed auto PB trans in the dumpster here very shortly and swapping in the 5-speed pushbutton 4wd tranny.. should make the car a bit better on get up and go.. but SPFI is very limiting.. but thats why i have an RX for.. mmm turbo.. -

for the rust, it does look like someone hit something and wrinkled the paint.. thats about all it did.. the tailight there till has a hole in it.. (has red tape over teh hole..) but yeah, going to fix that this summer.. rest of the car is clean and yeah, my 3at is hitting a dumpster when i yank it out.. doesn't omve when cold, gotta slip the piss outa it (5grand on the tach) to get it to finally go into gear.. have to shift it manually cause it shifts like dookie.. 2nd gear slips like mad.. its almost not there thats how bad it slips.. anyways.. -
here they are.. pics the pics of the rust.. well thats the only rust on the hole car.. the rest is factory clean now to get the 3at outa there and the 5-speed in.. hehe
