  1. unless you got styrofoam in it when changing your oil.. the only thng i can think of that will cause white coloration of the oil is coolant in the oil.. which means if your loosing coolant as well, you more than likely have a blown headgasket/cracked head.. it may not be real bad yet, and thats why its still running good, but the coolant in the water will destroy the bearings, crankshaft, etc.. basically it eats the rest of the engine from the inside out..
  2. lemme add something else here... the full time 4wd xt6 had a 3.90 LSD as an option.. i know where one is, its mine, and not telling, lol.. gota wait for $$ to come before i can get it..
  3. heh sounds like it to me.. last time i had a ball joint fall apart was in the wagon, it separated from the a-arm thus letting the wheel drag on the nut that holds the ball joint on.. not a pretty sight or feel..
  4. heh, wrx guys heads would really turn when they saw an ea81 hatch pull up.. sleeping until the ea82t turbo spools up, haha.. bet that'd be good for a few runs.. hmm quit giving me ideas..
  5. do i hear massive subaru meet/campout/get the parts ya need this summer? i have a list of things that i need.. that you prolly have.. i have plenty of room at my place to sort/sell/ship stuff out.. if only the stash was here.. i'd deffinitely donate my time for this benefit to all.. am bettin i could convince scrapdaddytatum to make a haul with me to come get the stuff to sort/sell, etc.. if not there is a loading dock here where i work... crate it up, have it trucked here for little to nothing.. your shipping expense reimbursed from the sale of stuff, and the rest goes to the usmb.. this is something that we could do.. just noticed i hit 1001 posts, woohoo. lol
  6. on my way back from lunch, i decided to go the back way and play in the snow.. come to the hill that is also an s-curve.. i get around the first bend and theres the mailman comin down the hill.. so i get over, slide off into the ditch.. at first i didn't think anything of it, i thought ok i'll put it in 4wd and go.. haha what a laugh.. damn hatch buried itself right there.. so i backed down the ditch, rocked it for a few minutes.. didn't work.. so i said screw it, cut the wheels so the rump roast end would dig into the embankment.. got the rearend on the dirt, 4low 2nd gear, stomped it.. spun the hole way up the ditch and out i came.. the mailman was nice enough to stop and try to help.. the smell of burnt rubber and clutch sure is nice.. luckily no dents..
  7. hehe they have all been tightened now, and it doesn't seem to be leaking and smokin like it was.. i normally just tighten the oil pan bolts just a little past snug.. seems to work well.. but i do need to go through the motor maybe pull it out and reseal it.. the only thing i can physically see with wet oil on it now is the oil pump.. my guess is the gaskets are gone and its just leaky.. but the parts stores here won't sell just a gasket (they don't even have a listing for it) they wanna sell me the hole friggin pump for like $90.. i'm going online shoippin for this one when it warms up.. glad i'm not totally missing some part of a puzzle with this, lol..
  8. in little Junky (ea81 hatchback) i mix 10w40 with 20w50 in these cold months.. also i use about 8oz of marvel mystery oil just to keep it clean inside.. i only use castrol gtx oil in my soobs.. seems to be the all around best for these engines.. as well as the purolator pure one oil filters.. in the summer i just run plain 10w40 castrol with 8 oz of MMO.. in the ole station wagon i always ran 20w50 year round.. just cause it had so many miles on it.. 290k always add 8 oz of mmo at every oil change.. i figure with one ea82T engine having 290k original the mmo has got to be doing something in there.. specially since the engine still runs.. just needs a reseal at this point..
  9. yeah i had the same prob the last few days.. windshield ices over while driving, but melts off it you sit at a light long enough.. also get some winter blades that don't freeze.. will help.
  10. prolly ben's XT6.. but thats not real fair since its only fwd.. lol
  11. alright.. is there something i should know about the oilpan and valve cover bolts on these ea81's? the engine i put in the lifted hatch had loose bolts (not even fingertight) every bolt on the oil pan and both valve cover bolts were this way.. now on my new to me 89' ea81 hatch.. it was the same way.. i figured this out while changing the oil and noticing the puddles it was leaving everywhere, and the smoke/smell at stoplights.. every bolt on the oil pan was so loose i had to turn it 2 times with my fingers before it was snug.. i tightened these.. both valve cover bolts were the same way.. so i tightened them too.. are all ea81's this way? am i going to be tightening bolts everytime i crawl under it to change the oil? or is there something i don't know about? lol
  12. i chime in with Benebob.. since he's got my old h6 powered car hehe.. i miss having that engien under the hood.. it was much more smoother, power was there when ya wanted it vs the turbo h4.. and emissions were better.. when i had that original h6 car smogged in oregon it was better than most new cars.. and that was with 140k, lol.. if i buy a new car it would either be a truck or a wagon.. if its a wagon it'll be an H6 outback.. no blowing headgaskets and all the other problems that the h4's have..
  13. good to see another Virginian... where about are ya? with it not idling when ya first start it up: it should be fuel injected. so if its not idling i would check out the TPS (throttle position sensor) and maybe replace the O2 sensor if it hasn't been changed in awhile.. the dragging issue: how are the tires? if say the fronts are new, and the rears are worn out, and in 4wd it might feel like you describe, but it is probably the drivetrain binding due the tire differences.. i know my little hatchback does this for the same reason i just stated.. i have sorta eliminated this by puttin 30psi of air in the new front tires, and 40 in the rear worn out tires.. its just enough to make the differences null.. now the button not popping back up i can't help ya with.. never had a pushbutton 4wd soobie before.. could be just stuck from dirt/grime that gets in around it.. i'm not sure if the shift knob unscrews on your car, but if it does i would take it off and see what goin on..
  14. yes, let me know dennis.. i'll be resealing and changing belts on the RX's new motor before it goes it.. so if you cams work out i might just slap a set in my motor while its apart..(save me the trouble later) hehe..
  15. i'll be puttin an ea82T in my 89' ea81 hatch this summer.. going to use the stock 4-speed d/r tranny so i can keep my axles.. i have a complete RX as a donor car really.. wireing harness, ecu, etc.. from what i understand the hardest part iis the wiring.. the rest is all bolt together stuff..
  16. Jules and I gotta clean his shop out and strip an RX before we can get to anythig else at the moment.. but i'll toss a set of head your way if you want to play, heh we have a ton of them just sittin around.. (still on motors) give us some time, i'll pull a set for ya at some point...
  17. i might have a hole ea82T you can play with for me, lol.. got 5 or 6 of them layin around.. my ea81 hatch is going to become an ea82T hatch this summer.. and i'm pretty much local..
  18. sounds pretty mean.. now i gotta record what my hatch sounds like with the flowmaster look for a new post on that in a couple days.. might do it tonight, hehe..
  19. drove my junkyard hatch home on e 2 or 3 cylinders.. new plugs fixed it right up..
  20. no paint! going to have to do that to mine, looks sweet!
  21. do a good tune up and see if the problems still persist.. might even change an o2 sensor..
  22. hehe sears quit doing the lifetime warranty on front end alignments.. they only offer 1 year warranty now.. i think they lost too much money on that one.. but in general sears has been pretty decent as far as alignments, tires, etc..
  23. if its got rear drums check the wheel cylinders.. i could see how they could leak fluid in the drum then start grinding.. a starting point at least..
  24. when i first got my hatch from the junkyard, it wouldn't blow hardly anything at all.. i found that a family of mice had made thier home inside the blower motor, the ac core, and all of the tubing connected under the dash.. i had to take apart the hole thing under the dash and clean it out.. i got a 5 gallon buccket of crap outa there.. now the heat and ac work like new (almost) i still need to take apart the vents in the dash cause they are partially plugged .. maybe you had the same happen.. at least a possibility.. and check the other things mentioned as well.. coolant level, etc.. might even verify that the temp control switch is acctually moving the valve that lets hot water into the system..
