DeltaCams XT6 Dyno results
Meeky Moose replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hmm coulda swore my redline was 7k... mine was also 2wd auto.. benebob could tell ya, he's got me old car now.. wherever redline was, it would hold it until it hit it, then shift.. mine also did not have a power mode, (i don't recall it anyways) and pulled hard until it shifted at redline.. i do know my xt6 was significantly faster than the same year of fulltime 4wd 5-speed.. (raced one once and blew him away by about 2 car lengths, lol) -

heh, yeah perfect candidate for the first convertible XT6
-
now i gotta be the first to ask, how the hell did that happen?
-
i had a board member make mine.. $10 shipped to the door lucky me though, my RX has the old vane style maf and no fuel cutoff you have a pretty fine car there.. gotta get some good pics of mine at some point..

Update on my 86RX cooling and stumbling issues
Meeky Moose replied to Warp3's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i still need to go buy a new lower turbo coolant line... it was a weekend, and i had to go to the parts store and get some funky coolant hose for a jeep or explorer.. its rubber but it looked like it was very heavily braided on the inside as you could see the ribs in the rubber. i then reused the heat shielding off of 2 bad lines and wrapped it up good.. been on there for about 1000 miles so far and no troubles.. but yes i know i need to go order one from the dealer.. the top line is (like stated above) a straight piece of silicone hose.. (i had an oem hose in my glovebox as a spare, so i used it) -
yeah, swapped my accel on my RX too with a new one.. the old one was very weak.. made it hard to start, etc.. i heaved it in the nearest dumpster, lol..
-
your oil pressures are dead on with what i get with my RX.. i too have my idle set at about 800-900 rpms.. no clutch fan on my car, just the stereo i rarely see my temp gauge go above 1/4 on the gauge..

25 degrees is stock for an ea82T.. 8 is stock for my ea81 hatch.. thats what makes it wierd, you set it to stock and it runs worse than at 15.. -

ahh hell, there were green plugs under the steering column.. plug then in, unplug them, it didn't matter, they did absolutely nothing.. on a good note i never get any pining at all nomatter where its set, lol.. -
personally, i love these $500 subaru's i find.. drive'em for a year or 2.. if they die, ok, go get another.. i spend maybe another $500 ontop of the purchase price fixing it, and they are reliable as heck.. so if you figure i pay $1000 a year to have a car to drive, in my book thats cheaper than going out and buying a new car anyday.. given this is with the 80's subaru's not the outbacks, but still.. its cheaper.. and her ein VA taxes on cars at dmv is 3.5% of the purchase price.. so figure the difference between a $500 car and a $20,000 car.. quite a bit in my book.. example.. my old 86' wagon i bought for $500 never had to do anything to it, just change the oil, and put gas in.. i drove it 17k in a year.. then the frame rusted out and i junked it.. at the same time we had a new conversion van, paid $12k for it used. payments were $280 a month, figure in the insrance difference of about $100 a month for full coverage versus liability on the wagon.. then figure in the $200-400 each month on repair bills on it.. by the time it was all said and done we spent $9k in 9 months fixing the van.. i coulda bought a fleet of old subaru's for that much and drove the snot outa them and still come out ahead.. we were spending more a month to drive the van for 2 weeks a month than we did to buy the wagon, which we drove for 17k trouble free..

check the plug wires at the cap.. the disty turns counterclockwise.. \ if they are put on backwards, plug wires 3 and 4 would be backwards, and you would only be running on 2 cylinders.. easiest way to check this is just swap plug wires 3 and 4.. it may run crappy for a minute or so due to plugs gettin fowled by not fireing correctly, but it clears up with a few revs.. this was a mistake i made and it cost me 3 days worth of headache

well, it runs fine, starts up by just bumping the key.. runs like a top.. originally when i plopped the motor in the timing was set at 12 degrees... car did great, 250 miles to a tank of gas.. i thought that it could be better by setting the timing correctly at 25 degrees well i set it to 25 degrees and the car lost power, and was only getting 200 miles to a tank.. so i set it back to about 15 and it runs much stronger and better mileage.. any ideas why it likes being retarded?

Are you 100% Hard Core SUBARU?
Meeky Moose replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well 5 soobs in the driveway should answer that one.. lol and i'm not blind either.. i've driven and owned more cars than 99% of people.. incliding porshes, bently's, ferrari's, etc.. hmm no lamborghini yet.. even a viper and prowler... and sometimes i want to get something besides a soob.. i then kick myself in the rump roast and say why the hell would i wanna give up 4wd, reliability, and cheap to fix cars for some big gas guzzlin v8.. besides i love my soobs for many many reasons.. now if only they made a truck (not a haja) .. -

arrg!! no heat... brrrrr its cold...
Meeky Moose replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ok, get this one.. lol.. i knew the timing was off a little.. so i put a light on it last night.. turns out it was as 12 deg. so i set it to about 23.. (hard to tell on a lightened flywheel) the temp gauge reads that the car is acctually running cooler than it was, but the heat is hotter now.. haha explain that one.. has me stumped.. and the car pulled harder and faster when it was at 12 deg. too :-\ -
rx is possesed... grrr
