  1. Ihscout54 does your user name mean international scout? If so could you post pics?If not I am just crazy...
  2. beck arney 061-9131 I bought the car with a blown clutch. The throwout bearing wore almost all the way through the pressure plate, the disk was shot but the studs wernt touching the flywheel yet.I am thinking that the clutch cable went south as well because if I pull on the cable this white lining comes out.
  3. so do I adjust the nut towards or away from the front of the car?
  4. with the pedal I have like 1/2 the travel before I feel any resistance.
  5. I just bought a brand new clutch kit for my 84 subaru wagon with the 4 speed DR 4x4 transmission.I cant seem to adjust the clutch to where I can actually get the gears.I can find reverse only because it grinds.I cant find the other gears at all.I can put the car in gear then start it up and the car still tries to go forward even with the clutch fully pressed. The adjustment nut only has maybe 1/8 of an inch before it runs out of threads. How do I adjust this stupid thing so it will go into gear without grinding or having the throwout bearing whirr on the pressure plate?
  6. A brat doesnt really have a frame.as for the rear diff you can always weld it. on the road it doesnt really suck.the rear drive isnt engaged until you put it in 4wd.so it just drags along.
  7. The nuts are M10 X1.25..just an FYI.I ended up making a ton of trips to ace hardware to sort that out. Then one of the nuts I bought turned out to be a M10X1.5.At that point I said "F*** It" and for the mean time the subaru will only have 1 nut plus the antipitch bar holding it in...At least until I get get the drive to pay .70 a nut for a damn metric nut.
  8. so are you going to put a passenger seat in the thing?
  9. Just wondering what the bolts that hold the motor mounts to the crossmember on an 84 EA81?I did a clutch job but managed to loose both of them.
  10. Crap, I lost BOTH motor mount bolts. Are those M10X1.25 or M12X1.25. I need to get to the store before it closes... then after that I need to reconnect the heater hoses, put the radiator back in,bolt the skidplate back on and reconnect the exhaust system then hopefully she will be a runner..
  11. Got both bearings sorted out.Now I am having SOO much fun trying to get the engine to mate up to the transmission.I have spent the last hour and a half trying to get it in but its not happening.Course if I had another person helping me it would probally be hooked and and running by now.
  12. I was about to say that will buff right out, but it looks like it already buffed out.
  13. How often do the throw out bearing and the bearing in the flywheel go out? EDIT: got the throwout bearing fixed. Now what about the bearing in the flywheel?

If you dont mind changeing tires when you go offroading, I am running a set of 6.00X14 R1 tractor tires mounted on 14X6 6 lug nissan rims. They are about 26" tall. They were about 80 bucks each at les scwab.
  15. makes me want to not even bother replacing the thing if its gonna be that hard. that and i dont have access to a press of any sort.
  16. are you stuck there? in the pic where you are shooting a huge roostertail over the car?
  17. I was expecting to see "a little mud on the tires"
  18. I have the engine and transmission apart on my 84 EA81 wagon to do a clutch job.just wondering, what is the proper way to change the throwout bearing?I dont want to start prying on stuff in the fear that I might bend the linkage or something. thanks in advance.
  19. I have never heard of anyone brag about the longevity, reliabily, or crash worthlyness of indian vehicles.so i dunno.
  20. if the axles hold up keep your foot in it all the time.it understeers like no other when you let off,It will have very good turn in however when on the gas.Turns have to be taken a little differently.Come in like you are doing a scandinavian flick, flick the car where you want it to go and try to smash the pedal through the floor. You might have to experiement abit with that to get the right amount of flick.
  21. yep yep chrome bumpers and chrome around the taillights... so what do I need to make the 82 transmission live in the car without the clutch dieing?
  22. you could put EA82 suspension on it or convert to 5 lug.there really isnt any aftermarket for suspension on the EA series cars...
  23. Any way to tell if my parts car is infact a 82 rather than a 83+ the headlights are just two rounded rectangles and it has a 3rd eye(which I may sell). But it seems those lights came on cars from 80-84...My offroad toy has the quad headlights...
