  1. i was looking at a red 5 speed the other day. it had 109,000 miles on it. other than needing a set of tires it looked great . it's a private owner. lets assume that it's got the original timing belt and clutch and they will be needing replaced in the near future. their asking $7,400. is this a fair price. is it new enough to not have head gasket problems? any other known problems. i'm looking for a 04-05. i was also considering a wrx of the same year. i always wanted a turbo
  2. i got a set of front seats out of a 95 legacy wagon. one is missing the brackets that bolt the seat to the floor. i want to put them in a 90 legacy. will my brackets bolt to the seats. will the seats fit right into my 90 with no problems?
  3. 205/75-15 on a 90 legacy with outback struts. the rear tires are about 1/4 inch maybe less from rubbing the rockers.
  4. ok, i connected the jumper cables to it and cycled the key on and off a few times and it fired right up first try. i don't know why it did what it did but it seems to be running fine now.
  5. don't really have the extra money for a battery right now so i'll charge it up and maybe throw a set of jumper cables on it when i get a chance and try it.
  6. i forgot to say it's only been about 2 weeks. normally it is my daily driver and always ran great. i just can't figure out why after setting that short period of time it won't start. i'm gonna charge the battery when i get a chance and try it again.
  7. 90 legacy, the car has always ran great. it failed inspection and has sat until i had a chance to do some body work it. i tried to start it and it didn't even try. i cranked it some more and it fired for a second and died. this went on until the battery died and i didn't have time to charge the battery back up. what could have happened.
  8. not sure about what years had this but some of them have a front axle dissconnect. it uses a vacuum motor on the front axle that moves a shift fork and connects the axles shaft. the right side axle shaft is a 2 piece shaft. check and see if you have this. it bolts to the right side of the axle and has vac lines running to it. iirc it also has somthing to do with the 4wd light turing on also. somtimes it is as simple as a bad or loose vac hose
  9. no flashing power light and no torque bind. edit= ok i just checked for codes; for existing codes i have none but for previous codes i got a 33 vehicle speed sensor 2
  10. i doubt it is the clutches. they were replaced by the local subaru garage and they said everything was good. i drove it to work today, 20 miles each way and it seems to be working fine.
  11. where are the connections. is their one somwhere near the rear of the trans where the sensor is.
  12. fluid is new. was put in when trans was replaced. i did try putting the car in 1 and it did the same thing. their was still a big delay.
  13. 90 legacy 213,000 but trans is newer and don't know the mileage. clutches were out of my old trans, they have less than 10,000 miles on them. solonoid was the one that came with the trans because my new one quit working for some reason when it was swaped into the new trans. other trans was put in about 6 months ago and the awd has worked flawlessly until today.
  14. after work today i pulled into my driveway and hit the gas and the front wheels spun. which it doesn't normally do. so i took the car for a ride, i put the one front wheel in some mud and it took about 5 seconds for the rear wheels to kick in. i did this a few times and the same thing happened. i then put the fwd fuse in and drove for a few miles then took it out. i went back to the mud and this time their was no spinning it seemed to work fine after that. is this anything to worry about. is it possable somthing could have got stuck?
  15. on a 90 legacy. what would cause a delay in drive. when shifted it takes a minute and some reving of the engine to get it to move, but after that it drives fine. fluid is full, not sure about the filter. it has about 170,000 miles on it.
  16. thats what i told him. but i wanted to make sure their wasn't somthing that goes bad and could be replaced. it's probably far cheaper to find a good used one anyways. thanks for the help.
  17. a friend of mine knows somone with a subaru that needs some help. he said the car will drive fine but reverse won't work. he said it did work after shifting between park and reverse for a little while. he said the fluid was full.my friend said he thinks it's a early 90's legacy any ideas.
  18. i've seen other wagons with the outback struts and they set up just as high. these are the tires i have. work very good in snow. i also run them all year and seem to wear very well. mine are 15 inch wheels but they come in a 27x8.5-14 which are the same height. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Grabber+AT+2 they do rub when the wheels are turned all the way and they rub a little on the rear mudflaps but only on hard bumps. i used my stock strut tops and springs. you will also need an allignment, my camber was way out.
  19. i never actually measured it but i'm guessing about 2" plus at least another inch with the taller tires. with my tires it sets considerabally higher then a stock legacy and i've even parked next to outbacks and you can see mine sets up higher. i've been in alot of snow with this and never gotten stuck. i've even went up this hill with about 6" of snow and my step dad's 2000 f-250 got stuck. well worth the money i spent. i would also reccomend the 205/75-15 general grabber at2 tires, smallest size they make and it is a very tight fit(had to remove the plastic cover on the end of the rockers) but you will be amazed with where you can go.
  20. your car is awd right? use all 4 struts from a 97 outback awd i think 90-99 were all the same setup with the exception of outback struts being longer. if you put legacy struts on you would get no lift because thats what you have now. plus i think the rear suspensions are different on fwd so i don't think struts for the rear of a fwd will even fit. my 90 legacy with outback struts and 205/75-15 general grabber at2's
  21. what about them? it runs fine otherwise. i was wondering if one of the sensors acting up could cause this.
  22. NGK plugs. as far as the fuel goes i did notice the local station has a sticker on the pump that says contains ethenol but i've been running that fuel in my other 90 legacy with no problems.
  23. i used struts off a 97 outback awd. used my stock springs.
