I think that is to high, especially if the transmission hasn't been replaced/rebuilt... Anytime you buy an early, high mileage SVX you should plan on replacing the trans in the first year ($1000 - $3000). I had to replace mine about a month after I bought it, but I had that expense planned so it didn't hit me that hard. They are wonderful cars, and I doubt I'll ever give mine up. But they are expensive to maintain. Even if you do all the work yourself, the parts cost more than other Soob stuff.

Keith, Any idea if the Blue Mountain region is going to be having any events? Their web site is still talking about the 2003 season... Did you participate at Duryea? How'd you do?

Well the Brat is back on the road:grin: It all started back on 7/24 with my Diff breaking loose. Once I got that fixed I had to deal with the rear brakes and decided to do the rear disk conversion while I was replacing stuff. Thanks to Benebob for help and advice on the torsion bar, as well as others who offered advice on how to do the swap, and what cars I could get parts from. Thanks to Shawn, and Edrach for advice when I went to put the disks on. Joe, Thanks for your offer of scavenging parts from your parts Brat. And thanks to the others have offered advice along the way. THE BRAT IS BACK BABY!!!!!!

Yeah there is a company (in California iirc) that specializes in putting ER27's and EG33 (SVX) engines into Porsches. If you can't find it elsewhere go to xt6.net and search "porsche".

Well, I didn't have to curse nearly as much as I thought I would... I used a pipe wrench on the outer CV knuckle in the area where the pin drives through, and then just turned the wheel until the pipe wrench got caught in the suspension and bit in to the axle. Then just a little bit of pressure at the end of a 3 foot cheater and they were spinning off.

I used to think that snow tires were not needed on an all wheel drive Soob, until I got a set last year. I didn't get anything expensive, just a set of Cooper's for about $40 each, and the difference was amazing. Especially in wet/slushy snow on the highway. I would suggest getting a second set of rims. You can get a set of 14" steels for about $40 from a yard. If you want alloys, check the yards or ebay. edit, I just saw you have a 2004, 14" wheels may not fit over the brakes.

Any tips for removing the castle nut of a rear axle while the car is up in the air at the U-Pull-it yard?? I won't have access to air/power tools. I was thinking maybe using a pipe wrench somewhere on the axle to keep it from turning???

I need to replace the rear drums on my brat. I am planning on looking for a set of disks off of a turbo. If I can't find a good set, do I need to use EA81 drums or can I get a set of drums off of an EA82 also?? I'm guessing I can since that what the disks are coming from, but thought I'd ask to be sure. If I do get the drums off of an EA82 what do I need to grab at the yard? Backing plate? Lines? anything else other than the drum assembly itself?

I think I understand what you're asking. The lug nut is broke in half. The part with the wrench flats is off, and the acorn is still threaded onto the stud?? If so, that is the same problem I had to get around. And you are going to have to replace the stud once you get it all apart. If not, I'm still not sure what you got there:confused:

I had this problem with a set of 15" pugs I found in the Junkyard. I got all three rims off, but couldn't rescue the last one. I ended up going back twice with my drill and a bit slightly larger than the threads. I went through the charge of two 14.4v batteries twice (hence the two seperate trips) but I was finally able to drill enough of the stud away that what was left of the lug nut fell off. At that point I was able to leave the half drilled stud to rust away in the yard with the rest of the donor Pug, but you would have to go ahead and replace the stud after you get done. I suppose a torch could help, but it was easier sneaking my PorterCable into the yard than it would have been to sneak a torch in there.

The 2.2 in my opinion is the most reliable engine Soob has. With the same level of neglect/abuse is has far outlasted all of the EA82's I've had. I am close to 195K and it is still running almost as strong as it did when I bought it with 40K. I beat it daily on the roads (redline shifts into 3rd with the 4eat), change the oil avery 5K and have recently started autocrossing with it.
