  1. The coolest thing about the USMB, is that you can learn to do anything on your Subaru if you'll read all the threads/descussions that pertain to your problem. You will also find a huge source of support here on the board, while tackling a project or fix. I resealed the the front end, rebuilt my oil pump, replaced my water pump, and timing belts on my 93 loyale after reading and finding out that many many other first timers worked through it with the help of the USMB! I have put over 18K on that work no leaks or troubles, and I didn't pay the shop $1500 do it!!! As far as a place to work on your car, find a friend or relative with a garage, same goes for tools, if you don't have them beg. borrow or rent. It sounds like you have had quiet a few repairs already, at least you know whats been done. It would be like starting over with a different used car.... Good luck, Chris
  2. A flat four with a HEATER!!!! I just remembered I had a friend in Estes Park Colo. that had a 60-62 panel with cargo doors on both sides of the bus, love those split window rides. Please post some pics, I'm really wanting to see the end product! Cheers, Chris
  3. I've been thinking about putting an ea81 into a bay window type 2 for some time now. Looking forward to hearing about and seeing pics of your bus! By the way are you getting some serious grief from the hard core VW crowd for putting an ea81 in a 60 Bus? Cheers, Chris
  4. Welcome!!! I love my 93 Loyale!!! You'll love yours too!!! Cheers, Chris
  5. Glad you made it!!! Rust doesn't seem to be a problem on this side of the state (thank heavens!). I spent the last couple of weeks working in Idaho Falls, and noted lots of rust, esp on the ea81s... The one problem I have noted on the western side of the state is PRICE!!! ea81s and ea82s seem to be pretty pricy around here.... Again, feel free to send me a PM for any info on the Boise area. Cheers, Chris
  6. Looks pretty sweet for having over 300k! Please enlighten us on your Vanagon plans, I for one would really like to hear about a 2.2 swap Cheers, Chris
  7. Hey Joe Good for you! I hope you have an easy move. Feel free to drop me a PM if you have any questions about the Boise area Did you land a job? Good luck, Chris
  8. Joe I have lived in the Boise area since 89, it's been a real love/hate relationship:-\ For sure the winters will be much milder than you are used to, the summers can be quiet hot (over 100), but at least the humidity is low. The schools seem to be pretty crowded, and traffic can be nightmarish Wages seem to be on the low side for entry level positions...There are jobs to be had if you want one. The hunting and fishing are really quiet good in the area. There are several really good ski resorts within three hours, and the local ski hill just plain rocks! Boise sits between the desert and mountians so adventure can be found in any direction. There seems to be a healthy population of SUBARU'S in the area, but the prices seem to be high! Not too many rust issues. Hope this helps, good luck! Chris
  9. Sweet ride Your wheels remind me of Gen1 Jackmans, pretty cool! Did you say you "made" them??? Any more details on your wheels (like, are more available?). Cheers, Chris
  10. Hey Hush What part of 21 was it on, between Boise and Idaho City or IC and Lowman? Lots of red wagons in Boise. Cheers, Chris
  11. I love my 93 Loyale, it's very humble, and it's PAID FOR!!!As far as "dream" cars go, I would have to say mid 80s 4dr RX. For the imposible dream, it would be one of those early 80s EA81 RX's, that would be too cool Cheers, Chris
  12. Watch eBay for the stock Gl/Loyal (composite?) headlights, I picked up a left side for $7.50, and a right side for $5.00 (plus shipping of course). The right side unit was brand new!!! Good luck, Chris
  13. Yes Welcome! What a great Soobie to start out with, I love GLF's! Please post some pics! Cheers, Chris
  14. SubaRino from the BYB/Ausubaru website did the swap in his hatch. I think this will get you to his site, which shows the conversion. http://community.webshots.com/user/subarino Cheers, Chris
  15. Are you talking about the rear door window, or the very rear quarter window? My 93 Loyale has a gasket for the rear window, which isn't supposed to be to hard to replace. I replaced a Glue-in rear window on my 87 wagon, and I don't think I ever want to do that again! (getting the old glue and glass removed was a royal PIA). Good luck! Chris
  16. Pretty tough looking "Subaru"! Did the article say why the builder chose a Soobie engine? Cheers, Chris
  17. Very nice! Yes please post pics when you get the front done. Cheers, Chris
  18. Anyone know the Prart # for the "drop in " K&N??? Thanks, Chris
  19. I replaced mine almost 11K ago, and still have a good seal (no leaking!). I did clean the heck out of them and was careful when torking them down, or maybe I have just been lucky (it was my first time). Cheers, Chris
  20. Really sorry to hear of your loss, did your EA81 from CCR die in the process of loosing all that oil? That would truely suck! What O-ring was left out? Good luck, Chris
  21. Cool, yet another reason to move there! My wife grew up in the Soldotna/Sterling area, and I'm really wishing I would have moved up there instead of dragging her down here......Thanks for the heads up. Cheers, Chris
  22. Along with the T-belts, check the front seals (crank and cam) and rebuild or replace the oil pump. Cheers, Chris
  23. Last Sept. I paid $2400 for my 93 Loyale (5spd 4x4) with 103K. The body was in good shape with only one good ding in the rear drivers side door. It did however develope a huge oil leak shortley after I bought it, so I spent a weekend learning how to reseal the front end and replace the timing belts. Here in the Boise area 88-94 EA82s seem to run a little high, averaging $2600. Cheers, Chris
  24. I wish I could find a decent late 80s DL for a build up (for example NoahDL88's wagon). I like the idea of "less is better" esp in the power window dept.... Just my .02... Cheers! Chris
