Subaru has always been unique, not neccessarily "good looking". Looks are the eye of the beholder, as we Brat owners have some to understand. I like the uniqueness of the 05' outback wagons, however i'm not yet sold on the Tribeca. Of course the Baja disgusts me, even though it is unique. Sweet 82 is right. with 11,000 members, there has got to be a tribeca owner somewhere. Come out, Come out wherever you are - we won't hurt you - we just want to talk... :-) Kurt

When we started the west coast shows (PNWSEC) I "forced" my best friend, who hated subarus, to drive my 82 while I drove the 78. He has never stopped complaining! Of course he joking a bit, we had a great time. In fact he went again some years later to Thurston ORV which was a blast and didn't complain at all. Although he still gives me a hard time about Soobies. I sold my 78 to Tommy so only one car this year. I wonder if Tommy will make it? I'd like to see how it's coming along..... Looking forward to seeing you all- Kurt

I have looked the B9 a couple times. The mlodel I was looking at was starting at 33,000. Full leather. I also talked with the manager for a while. I expressed my annoyance at the front end "saab" styling (and mentioned the Saab / impreza failure) and explained to him that many of the die hards were dissapointed at the three panel grill. He then explained the me the it was NOT a Saab three panel, it is intended to be a indication of flight. The center peice being the fuselage and the two outer peices being swept back wings. According to him, this is Fuji attempting to go back to thier roots as a airplane manufacturer. In addition the interior is designed to be like a cockpit, and any of you who have been in one knows what I mean. I'm not sure if I buy it, but the grill is different enough from Saab to be an "airplane". He also added that "I better get used to it because all the models are going to that grill in the coming model years" Hmmmm. Overall, I liked the Tribeca. Unlike the Baja, it was not advertised as something useful then produced differently. It is a straight forward challenge to Lexus, Volvo, BMW and Nissan. I think it is well designed and with the H6, well powered. I'm not sure I would buy one due to price, but I do like the "premier" model. My only caveat - I did not drive it. I have no idea how it handles. Kurt

Brake pedal sinks to the floor,
Syrinx replied to Hank Roberts's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have found sometimes that after doing the brakes, bled good and tight then driving, the brakes go soft again and require re-bleeding. Somehow I never got all the air out in the first place. I addition, the hilholder is a prime place for air (vacuum) leakage/suction. This has beena repetative problem for me over the years. From what youv'e said it sounds like a mechanic problem. The brake system is one of the most simple closed loop systems around and doesn't have many failure points..... Soft brakes mean only two things: bad seals or a leak. That's it. no mystery there. -

hey Mary any pic's and follow up? -
Ok. frozen brake piston. Somehow the left side seized during reassembly... I screwed it in one half turn and reset it. runs fine now. Thanks for your ideas. BTW, Shawn, Miles gonna make it to Midwest?
-
ok. both axles are spinning freely BUT NOT IN OPPOSITE of the other. Meaning while jacked up, spinning one tire, the other does not turn in the other direction... Ebrake cables are properly installed. no noise.
-
no noises, won't budge. Ebrake.... hmmm...
-
Strange, Any Ideas? Here's the situation: I just replaced both axles on the 82 at the same time. I went to test drive it and it won't move!!! What the hell? First time iv'e ever had that problem. How could the tranny bind? Any thoughts? Signed stuck in misery. :-( Kurt

Custom bumper, unusal and (too wierd?)
Syrinx replied to pyromanic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Who cares whether it's unsafe! It's unique and very Oregon-ish in a crazy waco sort of way. However you need to drill a large hole for the spotted owl and add stickers supporting the Bhagwan Shree Rashneesh and you'll be at home down central. Tech inspection? Not in Oregon. Emisions only in some city limits. -
dude, you moved into an apartment that allowed 12 or more abandoned vehicles on hte parking lot for over three years!? No offense, but not a place I would want to stay. Especially in Hayward. Even if there was a freebie...

Just saw an ad for 15,000 mile oil
Syrinx replied to Alex C's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
cheap oil at regular intervals I believe is always better than fancy oil at long intervals for the reasons stated above. Oil is Oil is Oil. It is all the same carbon based goo dead dinasours gave us, regardless of the label or additives. -
