i ran mine without extra siping. had little to no problems, compared to any other bias ply or offroad tires i've ran. it couldn't hurt if you drive on the road a lot, it can help offroad, depending on conditions. personally my tsl/sx's i'm grooving. but the ssr's are flexy right out of the box... it's just a matter wether you want to spend the money or not. just a note ssr's wear fast on the pavement...

yeah, and it's the last time i bring a naggy g/f 4x4ing with me. arguing, at night, on the v-notch trail/ one of the upper power line trails in reiter trails. also playing with the gps... on a steep off camber section, the swampers offset lugs grabbed and climbed a stump, flipped me over into opposing embankment (upside down in a vnotch...). shattered passenger window, dented roof, roof/window support and crushed the front fender... door wouldn't open... no structual damage, but one hell of a good way to put the final word in an argument... killed that argument fast! no pictures, it was me and subafly a couple years ago when i was home on leave.

looks sweet! gotta love the one behind it too...

actually it should have closed last month. a few years ago they went to seasonal closure. from like oct to may it's closed. you'd have to check the dnr site for exact dates.

won't say impossible, but the last time i was up with friends on the express trail it was pretty difficult trail and the new trail they got up there a few years ago is supposed to be even harder. or from what i heard when they opened her up a long while ago. If your going to walker be prepared to break, and get stuck. especially if you are rolling 26" to 28" tires and no gear reduction. but walker is a blast! can't wait to be able to go back up there. it's been years for me.

the formula is just that 1st gear X low range X axle ratio if dual cases 1st X LR1 X LR2 X AR with 4.11 gears in the diffs, the math came out to some where between 55:1 and 60:1. the nissan tcase is 2 point something, not just a straight 2.0 if my memory is serving me correct, at this moment. as for the new toy a 223:1 will be it's crawl ratio... anything is better than the stock 20:1 to 22:1 depending on tranny.

removing the sway bars and adjusting the suspension all the way down. that way it's really soft and flexy.

Forester with 4" lift and 29" Super Swampers
Rooinater replied to Forester_Ranger's topic in Off Road
sweet! it looks awesome! i really can't wait to see some action and trail shots! -
i've ran the ssr's and i've ran the kumho's. the ssr's are far superior in all rights. the ssr's are fairly soft and are 10 times quieter than the bias ply's of the other swampers. traction and durability have to go to the swampers also. i've had rock gouges in both. and the kumho's side wall gave in. definately like the tread patterns of the swamper better. better traction all around.

i like them. if i ever got time that's what i was going to do. since i don't have time to even hardly get around to fixing my car... i'll just be running without doors all around. 118 degrees and no a/c... need those doors off. along with the fact seeing on the trail is a lot easier. they are sweet though!

ken's right there. 50 psi is a lot to be running on a subaru. most of my mud terrains i have had sat flat on the ground around 25 to 30psi. depending on the tire type and weight capacity. either use chalk, or water and or a combination of the vehicle weight to tires method to find a good ball park for your tires. as for offroading pressures... quick short easy trails that i know i can get away with out airing down. i stay at highway pressures. sand i'm usually around 9psi to 13psi, if the sand is like real deep and soft dune sand. more compact sand i usually don't bother airing down till i have problems. rocks and roots... i'm usually between 13 to 18 Psi. mud it all depends 13 to 25 psi... play around with your pressures to figure out what you need. and remeber these were on 27" tires to 31" tires. so there's a lot more sidewall than stock size tires. also take into the fact ambiant air pressure is usually 12.5 psi at sea level and decreases with elevation. so take that into account, when running anywhere near or below that pressure, you run a more likely chance of popping a bead. so be warned.

well little roo is still down for the count. all i got is my bike. had surgery last week and have been confined to quarters all week. hopefully next month we could get together and the car will be over it's leaking a lot of oil stage. with luck i'll get some wrench time in this next weekend. definately would like to go where there is some decent washes or obstacles to play on. hopefully i'll see you guys soon enough. i know i'm supposed to be in sierra vista on the 9th of july. not sure if i'll be in the subaru or the bike. sounds good. my girlfriend right now is living out there. so i'm going to be going out that way on a few weekends here and there, most likely.

from what i understand any differant angles on the diff and it'll start wearing out the bearings inside. so i'm sure flipping the diff would screw up the lubrication of the inside. but that's my 2 cents.
-
what are you using for the transfercase? that's about how big the second little roo is going to be. but the suspension design is way differant and the tires are a little wider. i'm still waiting for an adapter though... that's the major hold up. looks good you need to brace the hell out of those shackles. long un supported shackles are a safety hazard on or off the road. off camber and high suspension travel they'll cause a lot of stress. h brace them with a piece of square tubing in the center. looks good can't wait till i can get mine done. jared

just a little too clean to make a monster. it'll probably be my driver for when i go back home.
