What kind of seats do you have in your hatch. Those ar'nt subaru are they?

What gas Mileage do you get?
Jellef replied to Davalos's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
1984 Turbo Brat: 115k mi , leaky gasket, 3AT , 20mpg city 24mpg hwy. I hope i get better milage when i put in a 5MT DR and replace all the gaskets. -
they are 15" , and the wagon in your picture has the exact rims i want. I wont settle for anything else on my t-brat. They look similar to the 13" 4 spoke that i already have. I going to replace all the gaskets in my ea81t and add a 5spd D/R this winter. After that i am going to fix the two dents and paint it Lightning silver again. I would like to get some 15" pugs and a turbo stripe after that to complete the look i want on my car. Thanks for all your help. PM me if you find some 15" non-metric Recessed spoke peugeot rims/lugs/caps. THANKS:grin:

thanks all, Thats dissapointing. I really like the look of that wheel. I wish i could find some in US sizes. There is absolutly no website that sells these for a reasonable price huh? Will I be able to find these rims in standard sizes if i keep looking?
-
I can pick these up for $70. I assume that's a good deal, right? I would love to have these, however, they take the metric tire size. Where can i find tires that fit metric measurements in the us for a decent price? Les shwab wants twice the price of a similar us standard size tire. How much would they cost for some decent 22" tires for my T-Brat. they look like this http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/wheels2/pug15-alloy-stripes.jpg

I have an ea81t that needs to be rebuilt in the future. Its leaking a bit of oil right now and i want it pristine and rock solid reliable. It overheated yesterday when i was driving uphill on a gravel road in 4wd. Thinking i should do it in the next couple months. My questions Are; 1) Can i increase the power or torque output of the ea81t without sacrificing reliability or much fuel mileage? 2) Can this be done easily or moderately cheaply? 3) Can it be as simple as replacing the turbo with a bigger one and what one should i use (how much too)? 4) Can i turn off the turbo with a boost controller to increase fuel mileage? 5) Is a boost controller a good way to easily push out a little more power? 6) Should i just love my ea81t for what it is? 7) should i be getting better than 20 mpg in my eat? I don't drive like an rump roast, and it seems that the best mileage i can get out of it is 22mpg on the freeway at 55-60mph. I thought that it being fuel injected would mean better mileage or at leas comparable mileage to the ea81 with a carb. What is the factory epa city/hwy rating?

I found that if you first shift into second (without engaging the gear), keeping the clutch pedal to the floor, then shifting into reverse, the chance of grinding is reduced (this was somthing that i noticed in my 1989 accord though, maybe subaru is the same) Does anyone else use this method?
-
thanks, but its not exactly what i'm looking for. I want the full wrap around turbo brat decal. Like this... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=12383&cat=500&ppuser=20315 I am hoping i dont have to pay someone to paint it on. I am going to repaint the car the same lightning silver (eventually). I really want to keep its original look. can i get the exact same decals? I diddnt see them on McBrats page.

does anyone know if it is possible to get the original decals for a 1984 turbo brat or maybe replicas. I want to paint my brat eventually, but don't want to sacrifice the awesome red turbo decals.

Hey, i have 2 sets of stock subaru rims, 1 pair are the 8 spoke from the 70's, the other pair is the stock gl rims (have very good tread too!) Is anyone interested?
-
no thanks andy! I need somthing practical for the road. Did you ever sell your rc brat?
-
About the tires, would the peugoet 505 15" rims be a good choice for my rig? I want a balance between fuel econemy and off-road ability. They are only 6" wide. Will this be bad for off road? Should i just drill out some chevy 6lug rims? will these work for a good start w/o lift and are they worth the money?

Mines a rusty silver hatch. But the blue interior matches my brat! This will be nice if i ever do a restoration for the turbo brat. Also, my hatch came with the cruise controll. That makes me happy! On topic though... For the money, would these get me by for a while until i get around to lifting my hatch? http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/pts/195308706.html I know they are a little small and they are AT, but would they be worth it for beginner wheelin'?

I live on greenlake. I work nights, but i would be down if we go mid day. Call me at 206 388 8035. thanks for the invite!

The hatch is at my girlfriends house. Were going to make it a learning project together. I either want to make my hatch a practical daily driver/offroad warrior or a hatchbrat. I love the look of a hatchbrat. Thats getting in too deep for me right now though. I had an awesome thought though. I know anything is possible, but what do you think of a hatchbrat with a removable back top (like a bronco)! If i could execute it right and get the weather stripping to work, that would be amazing. Has anyone seen this done? (your green hatch is amazing zap, i wish mine was in that condition)

can i please get bigger pics tom. I really need the help. Thanks!
-
Oh! And will a gen 1 brat brush guard mount easily on the gl?
-
Thanks, that confirms what i was planning on doing. But will my gas milage suffer or will the weber even that out?
-
Im on soob number 3. But i bought my first one only 3 months ago! 79 brat, 84 turbo brat, 88 gl hatch. I just bought the hatch today. Only 400 bucks! and it runs great I think i might be going down the path of a subaru junkie! Nice cars though zap! What part of seattle do you live in? Im on greenlake.
-
hi all, I have recently bought an 88 gl hatch and i want your advise. I want it to be a competent offroad machine without completely sacrificing gas mileage and its daily practical function. I got a pretty good deal on it ($400) and it only has 131,000 on it. I am relatively new to subaru modding, so please keep it simple. I was thinking of doing a weber conversion, new tires (size/type?), and a lift. Did i miss anything? Should i get lsd? Again, im a noob and want to keep the car semi-practical. Lastly, would an aftermarket exhaust pipe lower hp? Should i concern myself with the rust on the back pannels (its kinda bad)? thanks!
