  1. I looked into doing this with my Outback when I first got it and before I moved (lowered will NOT get up my driveway ) and spent a few years researching and talking to people on all the boards and from what I gathered, the best option is to go with the regular Legacy GT struts and King Springs lowering springs for the Legacy Wagon (BG). You'll end up being about 2.5 inches lower than stock (struts alone are 1 inch) before rim and tire change. The black Outback on the bottom that jarl posted started that way but has last I heard full coil overs and still has the stock Outback spacers installed (he's a member of sl-i.net). If you go with WRX goodies, make sure they are for a wagon and get the "saggy butt spacers" (3/8") for an even stance. Removing the spacers is more work than it's worth. You have to replace the steering linkage, front control arm rear bushings, the lower control arm as a whole if I remember as it's different than the regular Legacy, transmission crossmember, rear control arm bracket, and I think that might be it. A LOT of work for an extra inch gc.
  2. DAAAAAAANNG!!!!! That looks GOOOD man:headbang:. Cannot wait to see pics of it done.
  3. I'll join with the only one legal and done (road worthy) at the moment.
  4. Yeah, the ones who can't post here . Always fun to challenge yourself and find the limits . And another pic, this time my oil pan
  5. Welcome to the board! I myself have a lifted 98 Outback on 04 Forester struts and springs as well as a HighGuys 3 inch body lift. If I were to do it again I would have gone another inch on the body and stayed with the Outback struts and gone with either King Springs or another extra inch on the strut blocks due to strut/ body interference in the rear and I cannot go over the 3 inch in the back which leaves me sagging. I have 215/70 16s on her and had to massage the lower rear corners of the front wheel wells with a BFH. Debating on whether I'm gonna sell my bumper and fab a new one or not, but if you can fab one yourself, do it as none are commercially available.
  6. Replaced the axle finally to have to replace the BJ now and have to wait til Monday for it. Gonna order the 5/4 lift kit as soon as I get an address to send the funds to.
  7. finally got around to replacing the axle in my 82 and finding out the threads on the ball joint are too boogered to work so had to order a new one. Pick it up Monday . Found out the rotor was loose from the hub as well so tightened it up. Think I got my CB antenna and junk figured out in my Outback and replaced my finally dead POS Optima with a non Optima battery as well.
  8. That sucks about your ride man, glad everyone was alright and no injuries. Did almost the same thing myself with the family car when I was 3 but ripped the back door off and almost took out my little brother. Needless to say I was never left alone in a car again. because it WAS an autocrapic and I DID release both the brake and put in neutral, just like Mom did (joys of older cars that don't require foot on brake to shift or anything). Good luck with the EA82 and the insurance company. On a side note, I did take out my neighbors barbed wire fence and total my car due to leaving in neutral and not setting the brake. What a great way to meet the neighbors. The clutch pedal will NOT stop the car, just the hand brake and brake pedal (I kept hitting the clutch when I finally caught back up to my ride and was able to jump in .)
  9. Just picked up an EMPI axle for my 82 BRAT at $64 shipped to my door from partsgeek.com. http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1984/subaru/brat/driveshaft_-ar-_axle/axle_assembly.html Took a week to get with the holiday mail service but hey I won't complain. If you don't need SMOG, ditch the Y pipe assembly and go true dual exhaust with a crossover pipe and forgo the cats and resonators as well. That is the plan for mine.
  10. You'll need to drop the center bearing down an inch or so and flip the carrier over, lengthen the pitch stop and steering link and might as well do the brake lines too. Not sure if you're a stick or auto but don't forget the linkages for the trans., I dropped mine down around an inch and also pushed it forwards for less binding (5spd stick baby!) Nipper had a good write up on what he did for Blu. and I used it as a guide for mine.
  11. I've got 28s on my 98 with Forrest struts and springs and a 3 inch body lift as well. I rub at full lock in the fronts against the inner fender and have rubbed the front edge of the rear wheel opening a couple times. It's a tight fit with the 28s and granted I only took a BFH to the wells and nothing the openings, but I also have an itty bitty hair of space between my rear spring perch and top o tire so unless I go back to Outback struts (will be doing in the future) I'm maxed out height wise. And, when I do go back to the Outback struts, I'll have to deal with the fender openings then or go to a larger body lift to clear the tires. On a side note, Forester struts will NOT work on anything more than a 3 inch body lift due to spring perch. Front fender Rear wheel opening compressed
  12. Thank you red92. I haven't been too lucky finding things lately. pulled the rest off my other computer. In no particular order
  13. Also gotta find the height of a high bar so I can fab up a custom one that will still fit under a high topper shell if I ever find one. Might just say forget it and just go 1 inch taller than the cab but don't know yet.
  14. Tore the passenger side apart to replace some slop in the wheel assembly and found my axle trashed. Replacing it with a new Empi I ordered yesterday and redoing the bearings at a friends shop with a parts cleaner. Pulled the swaybar off and ordered a replacement exhaust gasket and was given the wrong one. Gotta go back tomorrow and replace it. Also have to redo the thermostat as it leaks like a siv so joy.
  15. pulled my right side hub assembly apart to replace the wheel bearings and found the axle trashed so ordered a new Empi replacement for it. Will do the wheel bearings tomorrow and check out the underside of my Outback to see how it is doing.
  16. Found a couple more already in my photobucket account. Still need to get the rest of my computer. and my wall paper
  17. I have a few already in my photobucket account so here's a few. Got to get the pics off my other computer. Funny to see pics of my Outback when I first got it and it was in great shape and was going to be a canyon carver......
  18. Only real oops I have with my Outback or any Subi yet. Went too slow as I didn't want to take out my oil filter and still don't have a skid plate yet.
  19. I've got a 98 Outback and I have to say I've got less than $500 in hop up goodies on my ride and it's a night and day difference. Best things to do are getting rid of the "snorkus" in the passenger fenderwell (behind the fender liner where the air comes into the airbox in the engine bay) (free BTW), an E-bay intake from an RS Impreza works but stock is good, a Borla knockoff header if you want more power and noise and a couple ponies more (5ish), intake manifold spacers from Grimmspeed, and if you can find it a Group A throttle body spacer. I have all but the header and granted not a powerhouse but she'll pull all the way to red line now . Rear strut brace is highly recommended for the corners so your rear wont try to come out and pass ya by, and try to find a rear sway bar from a 96-99 Outback as they are larger than the rest too.
  20. Not sure what you consider "new", but my 98 Outback does ok off road. Wish like all that it had a Low Range for the technical and or steep stuff but $$$ won't allow it yet, and I will NOT give up my 3rd pedal for the crawlability. Ground clearance is an issue, but a lift alleviates that issue. They are wider and cannot turn that tight so........ Would I give it up for something older, no as I like the comfort and space but, then again I do have older for the more "fun" runs. If you're going to be playing on back roads and mild stuff the AWD is fine but the light weight and Low Range make all the difference in the good stuff. If you don't mind 2 pedals I'd say keep the older and grab a newer for fun and go from there, I have NOT tried an autocrapic but hear there are many things to do to them to make them great wheelers and they can crawl from what I've gathered. They are a lot bigger though so beware of that and they do have horrid overhangs (I still hit in some places in the back)
  21. that was a way cool commercial. liked how the 360 was the first into the wash and how it zipped through the crowd to get in front.
  22. bump for measurement help. Anyone have a high topper bar and a tape measure?
