  1. was finally able to grab some pics off my other computer so I'll add some of my favorites. Most are from here over the years. Wagons .
  2. I was driving my 98 Outback that was still on the stock motor at 140k and new head gaskets and all that fun junk when I had an inspection window form on the top of my block where the "EJ" casting was. Idiot light never came on but oil pump died and heard an awful clatter before the new window appeared. Took all of 30 seconds for it to become a boat anchor. Still need to replace the idiot light with a true gauge.
  3. Finally got my Firestik antenna mounted securely in the stock Outback Limited location and also got my new Cobra 29WXNWST mounted up in the Outback. Played around with my 86 BRAT and replaced the shorty open headers on it with a replacement Y pipe (sounds killer) and took some pics of it with my 82. Got a new thermostat and gasket for the 82 as well. Want to get it all nicely tuned before I go get her SMOGed them putting on a Weber when I get to it. Pics-
  4. I'm interested but have to spend my pennies elsewhere for the time being. Maybe 2013 or late next year if all goes well.
  5. I just figured through another web site the percentage I would be off and rounded up to 10% instead of the 7% it is so I'm slower than my speedo reads. Works good for me but not sure of the accuracy at hiway speeds.
  6. Replaced the rear filter again and the pump and good to go. She wobbles in the front so I'm gonna replace the wheel bearings and axles since the passenger boot is torn and I found Empi's for $54.00 plus shipping .
  7. Yep, she runs. Turns out it was the rear filter and fuel pump. Have to adjust the idle but will do that after I burn some gas through her first.
  8. Well I replaced the fuel pump and rear filter (again) and now she runs. Guess the pump was really gunked up and the filter replugged with crud. Have a loose front end to deal with and a low idle to mess with but other wise runs like a top .
  9. Merry Christmas everyone!!!! Hope it went well for everyone and things are going good for all.
  10. Sounds like my issue, wonder what it could be as I'm going nuts and am out of ideas. Will be watching to see what becomes of the situation.
  11. I cannot stand having "friends" light up my dash and will pull all lights out to keep them away. I pulled my ABS fuses a while ago and pulled the bulb out so I wouldn't stare at my "friend". Wonderful to have no ABS on the Outback and being able to stop rather quickly with the 28s. I had looked into removing the whole ABS system from the car and putting another battery in it's place but found out the lines are routed through it in an X pattern and a big PITA to remove so I just pulled the plug and corresponding fuses/ bulb and called it a day. Much happier now and brakes work great and still take a little effort to lock up. Going to pull my airbag sensors one of these days when I get around to it but got to investigate further.
  12. So I switched the jets and still no luck. So I gave the carb an acid bath and replaced the jets in the carb and I STILL HAVE NO FUEL FLOWING THROUGH THE JETS . I don't get it, the jets are clear, the passages are clear, EVERY FLIPPIN THING IS CLEAR. What is wrong? ANY ideas would be helpful, I do not know jack when it comes to engines and what not but it runs when I run the fuel line straight to the carb throat and that is it. The fuel line is not under a lot of pressure but doesn't drip out either. My friend says maybe fuel pump, but I don't know and am not going to throw $$$ at it to make it still not work. Going to dis connect the starter in the morning to see if that is my clicking sound under the hood when I go to fire it up and try to accomplish SOMETHING with this new project that should not be.
  13. So I gave the carb an acid bath and replaced the jets in the carb and I STILL HAVE NO FUEL FLOWING THROUGH THE JETS . I don't get it, the jets are claer, the passages are clear, EVERY FLIPPIN THIN IS CLEAR. What is wrong? ANY ideas would be helpful, I do not know jack when it comes to engines and what not but it runs when I run the fuel line straight to the carb throat and that is it. The fuel line is not under a lot of pressure but doesn't drip out either. My friend says maybe fuel pump, but I don;t know and am not going to throw $$$ at it to make it work. Cabs is basically new and still not working. HELP ME PLEASE anybody give me any ideas......
  14. hey s'ko, long time no hear. Hope all has been well with you and the house. Glad to know you are still around.
  15. I tore the carb back apart and ruined my info sheet before I could rebuild it so I hope I put the jets back in the right spots as she still doesn't run but does cough when trying to start if I don't give it gas. Also went by the DMV to register it and found out it's got a few years worth of back fees for registration on it and had never been non-op'd like I was told Will be a while before I can get her registered like I had hoped and start driving it. However I am getting parts for the lift for myself for the holidays and will get her running and start saving up for registration.
  16. Thanks for responding guys, I was trying to make sure I hadn't missed something as I've never rebuilt a carb and knew the gas had probably gone to gunk. I tore it back apart and the jets were clogged again. Soaked them in brake clean for a day and a half and pit pins through the holes to make sure all the holes were clear after blowing through the top. I ruined the paper I had all my jet info on before I could put them back in so now I need to remember which jet goes where. The jet with all the holes in secondary or the single hole as the secondary? I forget which is which size wise but the sizes are 80 and 60. I hope I put the jets in reversed as it still doesn't run but at least coughs now until I give it gas. Will pull the jets out and reverse them this weekend if I find the time.
  17. I honestly don't know which carb I have and didn't see any markings on it when I took it apart. I know my VIN is 5 for it so....... I can run the car with the fuel line going straight into the throat and/ or pouring flammable liquid down the throat. The jets are clean and the passages from the bowl to the jets are clear as well. WTF is wrong? I've been messing with this thing for the past week and am about ready to chuck the whole thing and just sell it. I need to get THIS carb working on it before I can do ANYTHING else with it. Would love to throw a Weber on it but the CA SMOG Nazis won't let me and I don't have the cash to dump on a whole 'nother carb. The car sat for a few years and I've replaced the lines and filters and am getting fuel to the carb, JUST NOT THROUGH IT . My friend who is not into Subies is saying I have a vacuum leak but that makes no sense. ALL vacuum lines are properly routed and in good shape except for the one on the air cleaner assembly drivers side that is part of the recirculating vent deal thingie from the vent in the drivers side head. ANY and all help would be appreciated as I'm DONE with this. *rant over*
  18. So I cleaned out the carb and passages as I was not getting any fuel from the bowl to the jets. Ran air through both passages and carb cleaner as well. All was good and had flow through from the bowl to the jets. Put everything back together and plugged it all back together. STILL NO FUEL TO THE JETS :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:. I will be replacing it with a Weber but I need to get this thing running NOW and SMOG it before I can do anything else to it. Any help would be appreciated.
  19. Inspected the carb on my 82 as it wouldn't get fuel from the bowl to the throat. Jets are clean and the passages were blocked but I cleaned them out. Still not getting any fuel from the bowl to the throat:banghead:. Gonna rip the POS out and try again.
  20. Not sure, will have to check tomorrow. As far as I know the only non OEM paint is in the bed, the tan is original and just hand polished in a couple small spots. I have something buzzing under the hood by the back of the motor (I'm thinkin starter) when I turn the key past he accessory point that I need to figure out and find the time to rebuild the carb and replace the jets.
  21. picked up an 82 to keep my 86 and 81 company and since my 86 has too much back fees and other fun to deal with. Needs a carb rebuild and some other small stuff but no biggie.
  22. Picked up an 82 BRAT yesterday that wasn't too badly priced. The body is in good shape with some rust in the passenger side door opening and thats about it. Has a grill guard and passing lamp as well as glove box mirror. Has the rear jump seats and head rests as well as the snaps in the trim for a bed cover. Also already converted to 4 wheel disc already:headbang:. Something is keeping the fuel from exiting the fuel bowl so I'm gonna rebuild the carb and the front wheels on both sides have some play in them so I'm gonna rebuild the front end since the passenger side axle boot is torn too. Hope to get her done soon but with the holidays it might be a few weeks. Here's pics. Planning on doing a 4 inch lift and a built EA81 for her til I decide what to do with my 86 that has a ridiculous amount of back fees and junk due on it. Might EJ it eventually or just keep it EA powered.
  23. I got 4 new struts from the bay of E for less than $500 and the springs off another site for $40. Why take the time to replace your struts with used from various models and mileage? I'd wait and gather the parts and do it once and know you wont have to do it again for a while. I wish I had stayed Outback struts and gone with King Springs so I sit level and had more tire clearance. Granted I clear everything fine and cannot stuff a larger tire in yet, but I also do not sit level and have to re engineer the rear to do so as I cannot put spacers in nor the replacement blocks I got. Oh well. Make sure the struts/ springs are from the EXACT SAME MODEL or you will be sitting uneven regardless as the XTs sit lower than the others and everything.
