  1. I had a similar "popping" noise coming from the same area in my ea wagon. Turns out it was the set screw in the torsion bar tube. Here's a link to the thread. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=85034&highlight=set+screw
  2. Hi Turbone, Mark down here in Yelm...I just wanted to say I've watched this whole thing with Connie and her dream car play out for a couple/three months now and it's been a hoot. I'm kinda bummed its over. But thats not what I wanted to say. Um, mostly I just wanted to say even thou I have never met you, I can tell that your a fantastic person and you and several others up your way deserve a huge round of applause from everybody involved with the USMB for pulling this whole thing off. You guys rock!
  3. Is that just surface rust on the fender, or is it something a little deeper?
  4. I have one here that came out of my '80 wagon. Its got 110K on it. Yours for $10.
  5. Wow! Looks fantastic. Its hard to tell from the pic's, but it looks to be a Very rust free car. Great Score!
  6. Welcome! Do you have any Pic's of your New wagon? Would love to see what the Vital Orange looks like.Thanks.
  7. I use to believe "if they didn't work, they wouldn't be able to sell them." Well, sorry to say, that just aint so. Buy re-mans if you have nothing but time to switch them out till you finally get one that will last more than 200 miles. My favorite part is when you return the reman'd axle to the parts store counter, and the clerk refunds your money as if he was tying his shoes. Like he's done it a million friggin times.
  8. Yeah,thats kinda what I was thinking.
  9. I found the Thule one's on CL. Crossbars and all for $40.
  10. I had a similar clunking coming from the rear of my ea81 wagon. Turns out it was the torsion bar pivoting in its housing 'cause of loose set screws. I dragged a car trailer clear over to Yakima to buy your wagon when that other guy had it for sale. I gotta tell ya, it was very obvious the thing had seen some vicious air born landings. I seen several bolts tore from the body up forward. So,i'd be suspicious of the rear torsion bar. I'm curios about the steering column. Did you repair it,or does it still flop up and down? That guy tried to tell me it was a loose bolt. I'm sure it had more to do with the hard landings.
  11. I went to Walmart and bought the Liberators. I absolutly love um. And, there cheap. There hard as rocks and will probably last forever. They are challenging on a Rain Soaked Freeway, maybe even Dangerous over say 55mph. But thats only during the worst kinda rain we get. And only until the water clears a bit. For regular rain and dry pavement, there good. I paid about $270 for four of them, mounted and balanced. The only problem I had is they wouldn't give me the warranty 'cause they are Way out of spec for OEM on an older soob. I wasn't too concerned 'cause there plenty cheap. As far as off-raodability. Alls I can say is they work fine for what I do. Logging roads mostly, occasionally rip thru some mud. I avoid rocks, aways have.
  12. I ususlly pour about a third of a bottle right into the carb as the engine is running. Slowly so as not to stall the engine. Then at the last I purposely pour alot into the carb to stall the engine. Let her sit for about ten minuts, start her up and go for a really interesting ride around the block. The other two thirds of the bottle goes into the gas tank. This works really good for me. I love the stuff.
  13. Yeah, finally a question I can answer.
  14. I didn't think to look at the badges. It was definitly an ea81 thou. It had a very diffrent air filter housing on it. I'm gonna go look at it closer tomorrow.
  15. I found a 1985 EA82 body style car today that has a Hydro lifter, ea81 engine in it. Its a 5 speed, dual range 4wd. It looks totally stock, too. I did a search on the board and came up with not much except it probably wasn't a USA market car. Anyone have any ideas as to where they were originally sold?
  16. Hi,welcome! I'm kinda new myself. It is a Great site, isn't it?Folks around here are always willing to help keep your soob on the road. Congratulations on your new brat. Folks around here like pic's too. ;-) Seeya around.
  17. Wow! That XT6 needs alot of serious structural reconditioning. Even if a person has the knowledge and skill to do that kinda work, I cant imagine it would be much fun or even very rewarding when you are done. I mean, after all that time, money and work, the XT6 will still look the same. I hear your New Blue Coupe is straight and rust free. Any other repairs or upgrades it may need You could do yourself in your own time. To me, thats important. I would send the XT6 packin' and concentrate on that sweet little coupe.
  18. Wait a minute. All is not lost. I read somewhere that the '08 calender is also going to work for the year 2027. Don't quote me on that, I may be off a few yrs.
  19. NICE! My favroite soob is the ea81 Wagon. Especially a lifted one that looks That Good. Diggin' that Safari Basket,Too. Hey Man, My Son's Love riding around in the Wagon. The Daughter doesnt like it, but at 13 she doesn't like much of anything.
  20. I used the same set screw. I just move it around to where I had put that zerk. The two bungs are identical. I went out and hit every speed bump i could find, not even a little pop. So, if your getting a unexplainable pop out of the rear of your ea81 when your rear wheels travel up and down, re-position the torsion bar set screw to the alternate bung. It might fix it. BTW, this was a Huge Pop I was getting. Enough to make my passengers think the rear wheels were falling off.
  21. Well, how important is the set screw/bolt? Seems thats whats making the Popping noise. I removed it and the popping is gone. Here's what I found. The set screw is not setting. Its allowing the bushing to rotate in the tube.I'm going to try a little longer set screw. Pic 2 shows the original set screw pushed into the bushing enough to bend it. Also, the set screw is worn at the end.Splines look Good.
  22. Thanks GD...It is an ea81. I'll give it a whirl. And, I'll take that "Zerk" out.
  23. I am trying to track down a Popping noise coming from the passenger side, rear tire area of my lifted wagon. The popping happens when the wheel travels up into the well or down like dropping off a curb or something..I have gone over every bolt three times and pulled the hub/inspected brakes. Everything is tight and as it should be. I'm suspecting this thing here that I'v taken a Pic of. I put a grease zert into it and was able to add a little grease, no change. Should I take this thing apart? Any ideas? Thanks.
  24. Here's the one that came off of my '80 Wagon.
