Sand dunning questions
So i am going to be taking a trip to moab ut area to do some running in the sand dunes with the family. Im debating taking the Loyale. Is it even worth the bother of driving it down there or will i be stuck all day? It only has the single range 4wd and open differential. And stock 175 70 13's. Any input? Thanks Oh and i do have tire chains. Not sure if those would help

Is this where the Egr temp sensor is?
Car is the 94 loyale with 1.8 Ea82. I think its right next to the thermostat. Right or wrong? Its a little black box looking thing with the vacuum hoses coming from the Egr and one going out to the intake i believe. Crossing fingers this is it. I pulled my codes finally, and i have the good old 32 code and 55. Oxygen sensor and the EGR temp sensor. I have another part car sitting around and will switch the sensor over if im right. Thanks for reading. Brian Side note, i will be replacing my belts this weekend, my harmonic balancer (crank pulley?) Is "wobbly". Is this a big issue? If so how to remove easily? I tried an impact gun on it and no budging. Thanks again:drunk:

slapping sound
My 2 cents, its probably lifters. Welcome to having the infamous "tick of death" But not really a sign of death though. Do a search for noisy lifters or tick of death.

How to pull CEL codes?
I have misplaced my manual and would like to ask how to chase down CEL light codes. My car for example is a 94Loyale 4x4 EA82 still. I hear and have searched a bit and realized its not like new cars where you hook up a scanner and bam! There are your codes. I believe i need to hook up 2 test connectors under the hood, then i will get a morse code like signal from my CEL? Sorry for my lack of knowledge in this area. Thanks for any direction or links i couldnt find.

Set Timing green plug question
huh good question i did mine the other week and didnt notice a difference either. Side question, how do you know where to set your timing? I live in utah with a higher elevation. I set mine at 24 (whatever unit of measurment) and it runs ok. But i know under the hood it says 22+/-? Sorry for the thread jack.

1988 GL rear locking up
I have had 3. I guess the question is are you experiencing these issues when driving it on the road? I never engage mine on the dry road. Always for off road and winter use.

EA/ER hitches
Looks like there are 2 options for my 94 loyale from Uhaul. anyone have experience with these? http://store.uhaul.com/hitches.aspx?src=hitches

1988 GL rear locking up
The last post brings up a good point. To my understanding, do not use the 4wd option unless on loose terrain. Like dirt, sand, snow, and possibly rain? But who really needs it in rain right? So if you have issues with the 4wd and are driving on the dry road, its user error.

What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
Adjusted timing, replaced windshield wipers, transferred cargo area carped from donor, vacuumed, put in spare tire, transferred wheel sets, and enjoyed driving it!

Idling issue.
Oh jeez im an idiot. I put rags down the intake when i took the motor to the car wash so it wouldn't get water in the intake. I pulled out one when i was finishing putting the motor back in but i guess i missed a rag. Big palm to the face moment. :-\

Man, these GL's are greak kayak haulers (pics)
I used to haul a canoe on mine. It was scary with cross winds though.

Motor Swap Done! Wiring gremlins
Could that be the problem with my flickering light? There is a mixed signal being sent to the light and the gauge that would be there in the car the motor came from?

Idling issue.
So i will be up front about my mechanical abilities, they are decent for a 21 yr old but i have a long way to go. So i finished the Motor swap yesterday on the EA82 and it started idling around the 3000 rpm range non stop today. Yesterday it would seem to get stuck after i accelerated above 3000 and not drop, but if i kept it below that it was fine. And it would reset when i turned off and played with the throttle body. Anyways Here are a list of things out of the ordinary that may be affecting the idling i believe. -Its only running the cats and a pipe to just where the muffler was when i switched exhausts decided i needed a new muffler so that is going to happen this week. Not enough back pressure so its messing up the computer? -Check engine light is on which it was before, but never had idling issue. -Oil warning light is flickering? This car doesn't have the gauge so maybe signals aren't right with this conversion? And that's about if for now. Things that i have done to troubleshoot: 1) Loosened the throttle cable but no change, lubed it also. 2)I was going to back off the idling screw, but its pretty stiff, and wouldn't have moved on its own so ruled that out as it was idling perfect before at 700 rpms. So what else is affecting my idling that i should check? Maybe i connected a vacuum line wrong? Thanks for any input.

engine removal
I guess i will pipe in having done my motor swap yesterday. I searched for a week for a free alternative to renting a motor hoist and eventually broke down and rented one from a place called Ace Rents. They had one that breaks down and fit in the back of my loyale! It worked perfect and was only 22 bucks for a day. Now im exhausted though cause i spent all day hurrying doing the swap so i could get it back on time. Good Luck!

Motor Swap Done! Wiring gremlins
Oh and also i have to replace the muffler. What would be a good one with sufficient back pressure? Without the muffler now its guttless. Would any run of the mill turbo muffler be good? Thanks

Motor Swap Done! Wiring gremlins
So i have completed the motor swap into my 94 Loyale wagon. So excited. The motor was just a good running EA82 so just staying stock. I have run into some wiring issues, the oil warning light flickers and is more steady as the motor revs up. Oil level is full. Is this a bad ground or connection maybe? And Only the drivers window rolls down. Where would i look to troubleshoot these issues. Thanks! Weird side note, this loyale's dash doesn't have an oil pressure gauge or voltmeter.

My Continual Subaru Build
Today i finished putting the dash back together and the glove box. For some reason that was all dis assembled. I did however find a couple un connected points and 2 loose wires. I couldnt find the other ends, Any one recognize these hanging just above the clutch pedal? Took off roof rack and the hubs so i can put on new discs and pads too. Saturday is the day the motors are swapped. Lets cross fingers! Oh on the wires, one is yellow with blue striping, and the other is black with a red stripe. And no those 2 connectors dont go together.

Of the white wagon, its blue, the gray one has dark gray worn interrior.

My Continual Subaru Build
Ok i thought i might just post some info and pics for you all to see. Its not that amazing of a project but it gets me excited. So i have a good running low mileage 90 loyale with a shot body. I came across a good condition body 94 loyale with a blown motor for $150 so i decided to rip into a motor swap and DR tranny while im at it. Here are some pics to look at! Let me know if there is anything i should take into consideration while im swapping this. The DR tranny will be coming from a 87 Gl sedan. I believe 3.9 gearing also. And with all the extra parts, i will be trying out having a welded Diff also! If anyone local needs anything from the gray wagon let me know. zzz:brow: Oh and what i did today: Stripped everything out of the way to pull the motor from the white wagon. Including axles.
