Has anyone used an EJ series engine with a RWD trans?
Zefy replied to hankosolder2's topic in Subaru Transplants
you can get kits from different companies that will convert the suby AWD trans to RWD... i can't remember who makes them but i saw it on nasioc.com... not quite what you were looking for... -
for the front just cut a few turns outa the springs... safety might be an issue, but its always an option... good luck!

i've been talking with subaru jim maple ridge and we're planning to group our payment together... but we'd like to pay it all up front... including shipping it to us... i have no problem paying a little bit more for shipping than it actually costs since i have to pay everytime i convert money to US bucks and when i take out a money order... so for our 3 gaskets it'll cost 90.84... is there any tax on your end?(i know i'll have to pay tax and duty when it shows up at my door but thats for later) so how much for shipping? high ball it a bit... i just got some money and hopefully i'll go out to Jim's tomorrow(?) and pick up his money... thanks a bunch and i'm so sorry for being late with the $$... Greg, -
if you want to be changing your tires every couple weeks then get rally tires...:-p they don't last long... even if you get 90 compound they still don't last long... and on road handling with gravel tires will go down... they tend to have super duper duty sidewalls making them great on (suprise!) gravel but not on pavement...

The '78 Brat Took Third AGAIN!
Zefy replied to Seahag1978's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
your cars have always looked great! while looking through your album i saw you have an aftermarket steering wheel in your brat... how'd you do it? i want to get one for my brat but don't know which adaptor to use... where did you get yours from? looks awesome! -
don't do it! i've been offered money many times... they usually shoot for 1500-2500 bucks... the odd 3500 too... the most i've ever been offered was 7000... however i didn't trust the guy (at all) and i figured he most likely didn't have the money...

oh so in a closed deck block the coolant passages are smaller making the block stronger... sweet, so simple... there was a rally car at PFR05 that made a fluttering noise when he let off the gas... that was super cool... i have a vid of it if anybody wants to see... don't know how to post vids... what kinda recirc system would that be? i know its a recirc system... i'm getting ahead of myself... what other things will have to be changed to use the turbo motor?
-
the ej22t is sounding SO good right now... i have read many threads on nasioc and such about all the forged bits and the block... what does closed deck mean anywho? i also heard that this ej22t is different than the one in the 22b... these blocks have oil squirters for the pistons... the 22b doesn't... if i were to put in the turbo motor i won't be putting on any aftermarket bits or internal... not at the begining at least... make it work first... then start messing with it...(even more) i will be cleaning the motor and such before it goes in... and i don't think the RX trans will be reliable if i push to much HP through it... (this car is my daily and will be after the convertion!) i'm still trying to get in touch with garner since he has done the 5-lug conversion on his brat... if anybody talks to him on a regular basis who's reading this give him a shout for me... my original plan was to use this car as my daily all round car... i do go off-roading every once and a while... but nothing to nuts... (nothing harder than the terrain at wcss7) i've been getting more and more into rally... i want a quick car that can handle well on the dirt... (still working on converting to coilovers in the rear) i also want it to handle nicely on road... it doesn't have to be all that confortable really... and with the 5lug i can put on pretty much any suspension on the front i want... the only mod i'd consider doing quickly on the engine is an intercooler and possibly a BOV so i get the PSHHHH...
-
bump for more opinions... anybody know what else i'd have to do to go turbo? and yes i agree it would be very impressive... impressive = hard to do...:-p
-
heh thats awesome! there is a guy in maple ridge (subaru jim maple ridge) who also has 3... an 81 and two 78's... i'm gonna have to do a bit more thinking since i can't figure out how to convert to 5-lug on the gen1's... i'm pretty sure its gonna need custom control arms... which sucks... i'll deffinatly be bouncing questions at you as i work my way though...
-
alright so i've been gathering parts for about half a year now... i wanna use an ej22 with RX trans...(both of which i have and all the extra little bits i need) HOWEVER! my friend says he is gonna be parting out his turbo legacy with the ej22t in it! so i have a choice!!!!! stick with the n/a or move up to the ej22t? the ej22t is such a great engine... loads of potencial... however to save effort and confusion i'd keep it stock... well maybe a loud BOV to confuse peope... but thats it! (my plate would be to full if i started adding go-faster bits to it) so what should i do? i love turbo cars... and i love doing things not many people have done before... however i don't know if this is TO much... i would need to add to my list of tasks to do the turbo? the exhaust, crossmember, aaaaand....? everything else like wiring and adaptor plates and such i would already have to do with the n/a... to turbo or not to turbo... what do you think!?
-
its awesome to see another canadian with a brat! let alone one with a WRX swap! i'm planning on doing an ej22 swap into my brat with RX running gear... i have all the big bits already... perhaps you could make me up some custom axles? i heard you can change the stub in the trans pretty easily... although i wanna convert to 5 lug... have access to those bits too! and my buddy is parting out his ej22t... so i migh just have to use that!

my parents own that very car with 100k miles on the clock... its kinda got the feeling of HG problems... but the subaru fix is the coolant addative that fills in cracks... so it doesn't burn coolant... however it did for a short period... its been running fine except for that... also you might just wanna replace the HG right out depending on how my miles its got... the issue is the HG and not the engine itself... they put some of the newer style HG's on it and it'll be as reliable as one of the newer engines...
-
final drive for gen1's is 3.9 for ALL 4wd models... 3.7 for 2wd models...
-
hey dude! i should so come out to this... i've been going to VIC meets... they are great and all but i wanna get my car a little dirty... mind you i can't beet my car at all... i've gone to stave lake and such... didn't do you many nutty things... so when we hit really tough terrain i might just hop into a car with one of you guys...(if thats alright ofcourse:)) i quickly looked through the posts... when a date is set i'll check/clear my list of stuff to do... where exactly you want to hold this? in nelson? i might not be able to afford to go if its to far away from me...
-
sweeeeet! i gotta get some good footage of my 79 brat (looks suprisingly like yours!) and make a vid... i got a lot actually but most of it is with my palm pilot camera so it sucks... i'll have to go and get some! oh and a 1600 has got a lot more pep then people think... especially with 1 person in the car... (never tried it with a fridge though...:-p)

Anyone wanna take a guess at these?
Zefy replied to NewDriverOlderRide's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
alright i'm confused a little bit... this is an 83 loyale? with FI? did you swap it to FI or is there a typo somewhere? if this were a carb'd motor, like most 83's (unless it's a turbo?) i'd say its an accel pump problem... but i don't think you'd have a CEL on an 83... hmmm... more people are gonna have clue into this... -

Zefy replied to Zefy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
alright this is great! 24!!! i should prooooobably get another one... but can't afford it... let me think of where money might be hiding and i'll get back to you on the last gasket... i kinda wanna get the one they still have in stock... but i really don't wanna pay 78 bucks for it... Moosens sounds like he can handle this... i don't have paypal(can't really get it either) so its gonna be cash in the mail for me... i told the guy i'd be getting back to him within a couple days... do you wanna handle it from here on out Moosens? i can set everything up and tell him how we're going to do things... now i think if everybody acts fast we can have the order taken before the end of the week! -
no i just used the shifter rod... no linkage... i used a grinder to make it fit into the stock linkage... when i get my RX trans in there i'm gonna try and use the other WRX shifter i got... (yes i got 2...:-p) ya i kinda wanna add a few inches... but then again it would probably be easier to chop down the stock shifter... another problem is if i don't hold the shifter right then my hand hits the stereo... so i'd have to angle the shift lever more like the stock lever... and the stereo is a normal pioneer deck... same size as all the rest... i plan to change it back to stock after a while... its still kinda fun having such a short shifter... i'd put it back in for shows and such... still funny...
