i would be happy to hook everybody up with these little guys... lets make sure they don't snap like tasty tasty doritos first...:-p i think they had 5 or so more left...
-
i specifically went for the 1/4...
-
i went out and got the E10 socket today... clearance... 85 cents! will it snap? probably!:-p
-
i don't quite know the year but it is a FT4WD d/r 5sp with the centre locking diff... so i don't need to rip into the trans to do this? there are clips? and this is an odd ball... but i am gonna use the 23 spline stubs from the 79 brat trans... (s/r 4sp) i know that the 5sp d/r will work... but will these old beasts do the trick??? thanks!
-
alright so i need to get a new bolt (the one in my 3.9 brat diff will work...?) and put in a new bolt... just for reference... it seems like the bolt is fine when i looked at it but i'll check agian... it slid out with the stub... how tight should i torque this little guy? and is this thin walled socket something i could get easily? and just for reference... all this stuff is going into the brat... thanks! big help everybody!
-
ok people... big choices to be made... it's coming close in time (like... couple months) to start painting components on the car... mainly trans, diff, springs, brakes... all those goodies... gonna make the car blingy...:-p so what colour(s?) should i paint them??? i want to paint the car a dark blue for reference (with white brat decals!)... what do you think?
-
alright this doesn't specificly have to do purely with the LSD but anywho... i pulled my diff off the RX rear suspension and took a look at it... i discovered that one of the spindle studs had fallen out... everything seems to still be there... but when i was perusing my chiltons manual it showed that the spindle was removable from the outside (just an exploded view) but it didn't show how to put it back together... so i need to know how to put it back in without it slipping out again... in the middle of the spindle there is a threaded rod... does that hold it in? how do i fix!?! any help is good help! thanks!
-
i am about to dive head first into taking appart my RX trans so i can put 23 spline axle stubs into it... however i'm scared shizzitless that i'm gonna bugger it up... anybody ever done this before and perhaps have a FSM or something that i could borrow??? perhaps a digital one? some helpfull tips? and just for note i have rebuilt my s/r 4sp trans before (but i buggered it up... didn't stay in 4wd...) so i'm not new (well... really new) to this... the RX trans is way more complicated though... thanks!

Another one bites the dust...
Zefy replied to RenaissanceMan's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
holy crap dude! glad to hear you are OK! to bad the brat is ruined... kinda cool that it still drives though! WRC rally style... ya i rolled 3 times... but i can keep going! -
DMS is the best suspension in the world (as far as i'm concerned)... although it is an amazingly rough ride... with DMS you don't need to upgrade any other suspension stuff... my friends rally car runs DMS and stock 93 impreza swaybars and all... that thing corners better than anything i've ever driven... (although my list of cars driven isn't all that huge) DMS ALL THE WAY! if you can afford such things... (very pricey that...)
-
well i can say that i did indeed make it... sadly though, i didn't take the 79 brat... i popped a valve seat and the motor was pretty much shot... but i did take my parents 01 legacy wagon... and i DID take it into the mud pit!!! "look at these pictures of the car in the mudpit dad!!!" "Nooooooooooooooooooooo" i'm still cleaning the car... then i have to clean the driveway that is now covered in mud... next year i am 80% sure my brat will be there... cross you fingers for me!!!

yes the ej22 will bolt right into that spot... but really, with the ej22 in there you're only going to be getting about an extra 20 HP... it would be way peppier if you got a 5speed in there too... 2wd or awd... now you might have to change over the wiring... my buddy used to have the exact same car as you do (still does... just isn't quite the same anymore) and he bolted in an ej25... and used the ej18 wiring and ECU... apparently it ran fine.. although he did ruin in piston... dunno if it's related... probably more related to the fact that it is a rally car and is really being revved all the time on and off the gas... but it should all bolt in... you might have to change over the intake manifold to make all the stock harness work... although i'm not sure if they are the same... somebody else should be able to clue you in... good luck!

Zefy replied to sparkster58's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
EXCUSE ME SIR?!? don't loop all of us Canadians together!:-p and it was a guy who owns a WRX that won the wheels... but that aside... the show was AWESOME! best one i've been to yet! thanks to everybody who put it together! eric and ken! yee haw! and everybody who helped out... i'm HORRIBLE with names... so excuse me... but thanks to EVERYBODY! all a great bunch of people and i can't wait till next year! you guys always do a bang up job! thanks rguyver for bringing the head for me! i'm gonna have to play around with it and rebuild the motor for perhaps another car... gonna be great practice! thanks again everybody and i'll see you next year! -
this swap isn't the easiest to do... not for the faint of heart or the person who wants to be driving it anytime soon... the front clip is the front half of the car... normally from the dash farwards so you get all the important wires... i've seen some with the trans or without... although you can use your stock trans so it isn't overly important... the upside to this conversion is it all bolts right in... my buddy did this conversion on his 93 impreza for his rally car... it all bolts right in... but! it's all wiring... if you have service manuals(try to get factory service manuals) for your car and the car you're getting the clip from it would make it a bunch easier... good luck! also try looking around on http://www.nasioc.com

hmmm only if you were a little bit closer... i was debating it and i was thinking of just putting on a different head just so i can go to the show... then when i get home drive it for a bit possibly then buy a different car and turn the brat into a project car... until the ej conversion is done... then it becomes the daily again... since i'd be already nabbing a head off you mind if i get an egr pipe and one of the short intake manifold bolts? i snapped one... and i twisted the egr pipe... i was reafing on it then think, "wow this thing is stiff........ ohhhhh...." i ended up cutting the pipe off since it was so twisted to be usable anymore anyway... perhaps we could come up with some little pre meet before going down to the show? wanna caravan with me??? perhaps come down here a day earlier and help me out? i have a nice guest bedroom... would have to clear it with the parents... interested???

hey thanks for the help rguyver! it's a 1600 and i don't have any spare heads laying around... i'm still debating it in my head... i'm thinking i should just screw this old engine and get my ej22 conversion going... i have most of the parts already... (i just need an adaptor plate/flywheel and something for the front axles...) and of course the inevitable odds and ends... i need to rebuild my ej22 though... HG... dunno if i should bother fixing it... any thoughts?
-
yes indeed it's true.. my engine is broken... it all started happening about 5 days ago... i started it up and it ran like poo... after closer inspection i notice that hey, cylinder 3 isn't doing anything... well after the obvious and most simple test to see if it's getting spark... alas it did have spark... so i went and bought myself a compression tester... hmmm... ya... results... cylinder1: 105psi cylinder2: 125psi cylinder4: 125psi and cylinder3??? 0psi!!! DO'H!!! so i desided to go for the gusto... lets take the heads off! and this is what i discoverd... this is the head side of cylinder #3... look at the valve... and now look at the piston... what you all think?

West Coast Subaru Show #8 date and venue decided.
Zefy replied to ezapar's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
it doesn't look like i'll be taking the brat this year... i was so excited to be taking the brat again but it doesn't look like it'd be able to make the trip... i did a compression test on it today... cyl.1=105psi cyl.2=125psi cyl.3=0.0psi cyl.4=125psi BOO!!!! :( should still be taking the legacy though... the legacy is no brat... i'm gonna see if i can fix it before the show... cross your fingers for me!!! -
A-pillar Guage pods in 79 brat!
Zefy replied to Zefy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
i used the stock trim piece then made the pods from scratch myself on the trim piece... -
alright so i just the pods today... i think it turned out pretty good... what do you all think? there are a few nicks and scratches in them but i was tired of sanding and filling so i just painted it and hoped for the best... also one of the pods is a little crooked... i'm very happy withe the results...

from what i understand it was standard for the gen 1's... but it was made optional for the gen 2's... if a gen 1(like mine) doesn't have them it's because it was repainted...

1978 Wagon EA71 engine, what engines will bolt right in?
Zefy replied to Faticus's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
first off, WELCOME! alright now it's time for some somewhat depressing news... no bigger or better engine will bolt right into your car... the bellhousing is all wrong (top mount vs. side mount)... now there are two options...(as i see it) 1. you can get a new engine AND trans (an ea81 with 4 or 5sp dual range trans) and bolt that in... it won't bolt in perfectly without the crossmembers from an 81 brat so if you can find them then you're set! if not, you might need to cut and weld a little bit... or you can go nuts and slap in something bigger... (ej22 legacy motor with trans or something) the ea82 won't fit easily into the engine bay (much to wide) so it isn't for the faint of heart... although it can and has been done... 2. make your ea71 better... get a weber carburator, cam, exhaust, ignition, elec disty swap... then you'd have a pretty peppy wagon! hope that helps... -
Canadian Windshield Gasket Buyers please read
Zefy replied to moosens's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
alright i sent out the money for you 3 days ago (the 6th)... didn't get around to actually telling you until now... anywho... this is all in the note i wrapped the money order in, but incase it isn't readable (my handwriting skills aren't very good) that the money is for 3 gaskets... for me and subaru jim in maple ridge... now it came out to something funny like 134.74 bucks US... it is exactly 150 bucks canadian from the 6th... i think it'll be enough... that leaves around 30 bucks for shipping... now i looked into this, and i pay the tax and such when it comes to my door... if i don't pay it i don't get my package and it gets held at the post office then sent back to you... there is no way for you to get stuck with the tax if i don't pay it if it is done properly... i'm good for it don't worry... if you need more to cover shipping and such gimmy a shout... money order should be showing up at your door any day now...
