  1. alright so i went to a VIC (ish) meet at rocket rally in squamish today... they were all installing short shifters... so i was looking at my tower of a shifter and then after a few convos we all thought it'd be funny to install the stock WRX shifter into my brat... well it wasn't a quick bolt on of course... the shifter required modding... luckily i can change it back in about 10 mins... it makes me laugh everytime...:-p makes my shoulder cry... just so you know... PURELY FOR THE GIGGLE! so anyway... i don't recommend this mod to anybody... while it does improve shifting (really quite tight shifts... kinda cool) its WAY to short to be any good...
  2. heh thats awesome! looks kinda back heavy though...:-p and hey, those rims you got on your red brumby are sweeeeeeeet... what are they? and most importantly, where can i get some?:-p
  3. hey they come in 205/60-13 too! same as stock diameter, but 205!!! coooooooool...
  4. that'd be sweeeeeet.... a lifted coupe! you know, if you're getting the mpfi engine might aswell get a 5sp d/r instead of the RX trans... you could easily sell the turbo motor and ft4wd d/r to make up the money to buy yourself a nice d/r with the good low range... then just change the diff to match and you're set! the normal dual range is the same dimensions as as the RX trans... so it'll all bolt right in... i say go for it! that'd be awesome fun!
  5. hmmm... i might be able to help you out... i haven't done it myself, but there is a company (rocket rally) that put a wrx drivetrain into an early 90's 2wd legacy... this car is for rally only though... from what i would think, you'd need the whole rear suspension... plus all the front stuff... don't think you'll need a new front crossmember... it would save you lots of time if you could find another 2.2 so you could just swap over the manifold and save yourself from rewiring a new motor... good luck!
  6. NUTS!!!!! just got an email from the guy at BBS... the wheels are made only for the WRC... seems like kinda a stupid rule... not like anybody else can really use them besides old soobs and peugeots anyway...:-\ if i had the money i'd probably beg a little... but ya, he told me he couldn't help me... anybody in sardinia wanna help us(me) out and nab a set of wheels for me while the service guys aren't looking during the next rally?:-p hmmm i don't like accepting defeat so easily... (not sure if i have yet...)
  7. hey fangster, thats a mighty fine looking guage cluster you got there...:-p your steering wheel is sweet... pretty much exactly what i want for the 79... the stocker is cracked and nasty... our legacys all had airbags... so if you come across another one in a j/y or something gimmy a shout! then i could post here sportin' a pretty steering wheel...:-p sorry for the hyjack-ish-ness...
  8. i sent off another email... lets see where this goes! perhaps for a small fortune some wheels could be made...:-p i like those ones but i like the ones that they use with gravel tires... can't seem to find a pic... they'd be sweeeeeeet! they also look smaller... so possibly 15s or 16's...
  9. alright not quite, but SO CLOSE! i've been watching WRC (argentina was sweet!) and i noticed that the impreza ditched the 5 bolt pattern for a 4 bolt... it looked pretty freakin' big for a 4 bolt... so after much searching i went right to the source and emailed BBS... it turns out that the BBS wheels on the WRC impreza is 4x136!!! now i know it's not perfect... but it's SO close!!! so i bet you could widen the wholes a little... (it'd only have to be 2mm each!) then you'd get BBS wheels without the mess!!! (centre bore is 98mm... dunno about the our cars...)
  10. i went onto a site www.partsvoice.com. (everybody bookmark this site!) dealerships sign onto the site and list all there old inventory... its an amazing source for OEM parts... some really odd ball stuff... things you'd never find new anywhere else... crazy expencive for the weird stuff... i haven't tested it out yet to see if it actually is a good source of parts... but their lists are huge! it'll give you the price and where the parts are located... anywho... i found some on there for 31 bucks... dunno if its for 1 or for a set... but it should be OEM... a bunch cheaper then 75 bucks! the site is good for other types of cars too!
  11. ah so if you were using mpfi then it wouldn't be a problem? no carb to block, no problems!
  12. your car its fairly easy to raise the compression ratio as parts are fairly pleantiful... use a carb'd block and put your turbo heads and intake onto it... this will give you 9:1 i think... a little higher probably... if you really want to go for the gusto rip into an ea71 and nab the pistons... that'll give more compression... my friend used the carb'd block setup... that car hauled arse... loads of fun! just thought you'd all like to know... and actually ya why is the dual system more restrictive? i bet with a good aftermarket computer like perfect power you could map it so you get the most out of both systems...?
  13. this might be kinda cool to do on my 79 when i put in the 2.2... since gas is about 4 bucks a gallon here too this would probably be worth it... my old auto teacher has all his cars running on LPG... (all mopar... even the barracuda drag car... running 12's... anything faster is technically illegal for highschool drag... anywho) he lives by the system... so you can have it setup so you can use both gas and LPG? turn off one and use the other? the BLAM factor is kinda scary... but hey... will power go down at all from using the system? i've been told LPG has an octane rating of about 110... that seems weird in my mind due to chemisty 101...:-p (solve the riddle... propane... octane...) how complicated is the LPG system? i've seen a few but never actually gotten to play with one... does it work like a carb? (i hate carbs...) simple to tune? low maintenance? do you actually get better economy? (savings purely due to less $$$ for LPG?) i know matty B has a supercharger... actually your whole engine setup is dreamy...:-p i know matty doesn't have to worry about this due to his disty swap but what do you do about the computer? have to trick it after you turn off the pump and injectors or??? wow tones of question!
  14. my 79 has a hitch on it... it looks factory-ish (don't think they actually made a factory hitch of the gen1's)... i've never towed anything with it besides myself... out of a mudhole... it says on the hitch that its rated for 400lbs tongue weight and 3000lbs pulling... however the car is only rated for 800lbs...:-p however depending on how far you're going plus hills, a suby can tow another suby using a dolly... i wouldn't do it to much though... having trailor brakes would be a good idea... (however i don't think dollies have brakes on them?)
  15. well its good that no subies have leaf springs! now you won't have to worry!:-p if i'm not mistaken the ea81 cars have torsion bar in the rear... and look in the off-road forum to learn how to put coil-overs into the rear... but perhaps you could just swap the whole rear suspension assy...? i know on my car its 4 inches to wide... but the gen2 i'm pretty sure its the same or really darn close... if i were you i'd swap in the whole rear suspension set-up... then you could run the bigger swaybar from the xt6...
  16. hey that looks dandy! that is really one of the only reasons i don't want to upgrade to bigger tires... (plus lack of money but hey) if only there was a way to change the trip aswell... (since i am planning to go into TSD rally and such... good speedo is important!) looks like it'll serve you good! and just to see if your interested... i got an RX dash thats missing the centre picture thingy of the car... (its also in km/h... mph in smaller print) would be a good dash to mess around with!
  17. that looks pretty sweet... nice and tucked up... i can't wait to finish mine... mine is half done... kitty comfort box not included...:-p
  18. that thing is awesome!!! i wanna see how those fender flairs were made... they almost look like the fenders on an old 4runner... sweet ride!!!!
  19. i would love to see more about your supercharger... and your alt pulley setup... you're not running power steering i see and i thought you needed to it properly tighten the belt...? i'd love to supercharge my brat when i get the 2.2 into it... brat looks awesome! i'd love to see some #'s of somekind! (0-100km/h perhaps?)
  20. alright i'm gonna start making a list... 2 - Caboobaroo 2 - MachineAgeVictim 6 - Moosens 2 - Subieguy 1 - Zefy 2 - Subaru Jim Maple Ridge 2 - RenaissanceMan 3 - Kingwill 1 - Subaru3 1 - YellowSub 2 - Subyluvr2212 1 - Leone alright we need lots more people... tell your friends! i think EVERY gen1 car needs a new one... i don't care what they say... if they don't need one now they will soon! perhaps a mod can sticky this to attract more people?
  21. alright i just talked to them at PNP... now they have been discontinued... also, they told me the price was 89 bucks... so i dunno what to believe... i asked if they'd be willing to make more... he said that if we did a group buy of 25+ gaskets they would do a special batch... there would also be a large price reduction with a group buy... (he said up to $50 per) so how many people need gaskets?!?!
  22. if i'm not mistaken the stock size for the brat is 175/70/13... so those should be ok... but hey, you got a rare set of wheels! got any pics?
  23. i hauled myself and my buddy (400lbs+ combined) and about 300-400lbs of snow up to my house... some freeway, and LOTS of hills... while it was kinda interesting when turning and whatnot it handled it like a champ... a little overheating... (lucky for me though i had a truck full of snow so cooling down the engine wasn't to hard!) and mine is a 79 brat with the 1600 and s/r 4spd! your car can handle it no problem! (if you still worrysome PM 'subaru jim in maple ridge' and ask about some of the stuff he puts in the back of his suby... he says i have no faith in subaru when i tell him i was worried when driving with lots of stuff in the back...:-p)
  24. aright i need some help now... i'm pretty sure i found a windshield gasket... but its at a dealership in texas... the place is called Pagan-Lewis Subaru... in Corpus Christi... so any texans in the area wanna give them a call for me? 361-855-3452 part # is the same as above... (665 002 820) save me some long distance... if they do have a gasket i'll post how i found it where it was... if it works it'll be a great source of parts...
  25. that'd also be illegal...:-p however, i like the idea about making the alt pulley smaller... i've been looking at different pulleys on the net to see what i'd be able to do about the middle section... i need to keep it balanced but still maintain strength... (it'd really suck if the think busted in half while driving...) i'll most likely keep the stock pulley in the car with me while i'm driving so i could swap it out if it were to break... i'm not running A/C or power steering so i don't have to worry about those... (might even delete the second pulley because i won't need it) i'll see if i can get out to my engine sometime this week and begin taking measurements...
