didn't mean to make a fuss. i work for rack attack. (hitch and rack specialists;)) all the uhaul places i've been to locally have been super sketch... i've had customers come in with uhaul hitches and seen some of the stuff they do. bare metal access holes, hitches that aren't designed for the car, exposed wiring, wires just twisted together then taped, ect ect... however from what it sounds like you know what you're talking about so i think the places in the states are much better. my drop menus have ferarri and lamborghini in it too...:-p we actually recently put a hitch on a prowler. the guy had a utility trailor made out of the back end of another prowler... was kinda cool. i to, sell and install this stuff all day long...(that and roof racks)
-
i would not really recommend getting a hitch from u-haul. not sure about the states, but here when you get a hitch from u-haul you get a choice of 4 hitches... when they install a hitch they choose one of the 4 and make it fit. now to me this is complete insanity. the hitch going on the impreza would be the same as the one going on a jetta, echo, cobalt, ect ect... hidden hitch makes one specifically for the 97 impreza. part # 60823... from what it looks like there is no difference for the hitch when it comes to the impreza however i can double check that on monday with my supplier and see what is available for the it... these cars a rated for towing 1800lbs i believe and the hitch is a class 1 (2000lbs). should be fine for a tent trailor...

the pump doesn't care... but the oil passages do... if you think about the way the oil pump works it would just force oil back down the pickup tube... make the oil pan all bubbly...
-
early gen turbo legacy's (90-94) come stock with 15" wheels... they are the same 2 pots found in the 2.5RS... the rears however have vented rotors while the impreza doesn't... edit: oh wait... you're saying under 15"...
-
the only brakes that won't fit under 15's (OEM wheels) is the wrx brakes and bigger... legacy, impreza, forester, outback, blah blah all fit under 15's... i am running 2.5RS brakes because it's the biggest brakes that still fit under 15" wheels...

so sorting out the wiring for the ej22 swap into the brat and just wondering how i should go about swapping the alt over... ea71 alt has an external regulator while the ej is internal... haven't seen any info on this really because ea81's don't have this problem... it's probably pretty simple but i'm tired of thinking...
-
the 4 pot suby brakes found on 06-07 wrx's and some of the older JDM sti's would be good and they fit under the stock RS 16" wheels... (the 5 and 6 spokes but NOT the wrx split spokes)

looks like i won't be able to make it there until late saterday night... i booked the time off work months ago when i started the job, but last week the assistant manager booked the same time off as me... so seniority got pulled on me... i probably won't make it out there until 10pm or so saterday night... it's also looking like the brat won't get done by then either so i'm probably gonna be driving the civic or perhaps the leggy... -

i have a set off the motor i'm rebuilding but i'm kinda far away...:-\ i could clean them up then scan one of em into the comp then send it to you? you print it off... all good! -
plus with the rear diff and axles out you'll notice that on stock 13" wheels and tires you'll have more ground clearance on it than any other trailor on the road! my buddy has built 2 trailors using ea81 rear torsion bar suspension however not using the brat box... the first trailor is a snowmobile trailor that when unsprung has 2.5-3 feet of clearance under it... with the load on there it's dropped to about 1.5-2... the second is an full on car trailor specifically designed for carrying loyales and older soobs... on this one he uses 2 ea81 rear suspensions with the torsion bars clocked up... a little while ago a legacy was hauled with it... it kinda maxed out the suspension but it held up well! this trailor has to be 10 years old or something and it hasn't quite... tough torsion bar suspension!!! good luck with your build...

what makes it 'rally spec'?

sweet! that was pretty much the only reason i didn't get wrx brakes is because i wanted to be able to run 15's... (granted there are 15" wheels that easily clear wrx brakes... heck even 4 pots... but $$$) cool setup... i'm curious to see if there is a big difference in stopping power vs the RS brakes that i have... i'm sure mine will be fine for the brat though...

i think you should spend a weekend helping me with my swap...:-p then you can come down and pick up the windshield gasket as i never seem to ship...

i sent you a pm a while ago and got no responce... i'm interested in getting your help!

putting ej22 heads on an ej25 block is a common motor build... it pushes the CR up to about 10.8:1 if i remember correctly... your plan would probably work fine... the only issue i can see is if the ej18 heads can flow enough for the ej25... although they are probably similar or even identical to ej22 heads... if you use the ej18 heads then use the ej18 intake manifold... and the heads should be fine on the block because (i'm assuming) you're using an RS block (please be phase 2) which is an open deck block... -
he's doing pretty good... unfortunatly he has to move though because his land got sold or something... so he has to move EVERYTHING to his new place about 2 mins away... for everybody else, that's 37 subies to move... very few of them are working subies too...
-
and what exactly are you getting done to the pistons? they are already flat top pistons... you gonna get domed pistons? you're already running 10:1 (or 9.5:1) compression... getting more from the pistons is gonna be hard... milling the heads down would work until your intake manifold stops fitting... and if you're making a custom intake make sure you get rid of (bypass) that coolant line running through the intake... power sucker that one is... (makes for better cold starts from what i've heard though) good luck on this... and don't be sad when a civic is still faster than you...:-p

from what i've heard, using a standalone is a bad call unless you really want to fiddle. even hydra and stuff isn't very easy to use... wiring the stock harness would probably be easier due to the fact that if you plug it in all correctly it should run... while if you get the MS hooked up properly it still won't run... some of the local companies that do engine swaps pretty much stay away from standalones... if you're looking for better tuning than stock, get a piggyback (perfect power) or a reflash... speaking of all this... who wants to help me swap the ej22 engine and harness into the brat with me???

i'll meet up with you... if all goes well, the brat will be up and running by them... cross your fingers!!!!!!!!!!!:-\ -
i've seen that a couple times... notice on the third car (i think) watch as he starts to roll over... he takes out a camera guy...:-\
-
if you want something 4wd then just get an old ea82 car... turbo or not you'll still have fun... you shouldn't count out non 4wd cars though... rwd cars will get you sideways in a hurry... and if you ask most seasoned rally drivers (not me:rolleyes:) they will tell you to get a fwd car and learn car control... the last guy i serviced for at a rally actually won using a 93 civic hatchback with type-r conversion... a sweet drive watching him go 115mph on ice... but anywho.. if you can find a nice GL sedan or coupe (maybe even RX) i think you'll be set... a first gen impreza should come pretty cheap too... easier to modify than a GL... and if you don't car about it not being a subaru, a lot of people use AWD eagle talons... some are even turbo... and if you're really lucky, try and find youself a mazda 323 GTX... you'll have balls of fun in one of those... (only 1500 in north america though...)
-
if you really wanna make some sweet sweet power then why not go with a turbo motor? all the N/A motors have almost no aftermarket support... and you can get crazy power and torque #'s out of one turbo motor, why not 2? you can pick up a JDM front clip for under 2 grand... get 2 of them... or get a couple wrecked wrx motors... i see them for sale at about the same price... with that you're gonna be pushing about 440 with the motors combined... and i've seen the 2 liter pushed up to 450whp after getting a bigger turbo, injectors, intercooler, ect ect... if you're gonna go nuts then why not make a 1000hp ej40?
-
that looks slick! good job... that looks way better than having a tire sitting in the back! you better move your licence plate from behind there though!:-p
-
why yes i did! gee is one heck of a guy... control arms are from him along with the strut top adaptors and master cylinder plugs... i would have really liked to have gotten the whole kit, but i couldn't afford it... so xt-6 rears it is... then something special for the ebrake which i will post when it is done/working...

ya i really like these wheels... and the price couldn't be beat! these are actually the JDM version of the wheels that are probably on your buddies imp... notice the darker paint and polished lip on mine vs. solid silver on your friends... (i'm taking a guess his aren't the JDM ones...)
