  1. I heard the woosh of snow.... the thud:eek:....I turn and look and my car is shaking from the impact and this white blazer -suburban -tahoe thing is flying through the snow laden gully between the road and the parking strip. I shoe up and jump out the door cell in hand to find... quiet.....( besides my swearing) three mirrors and a ton of plastic glittering under the streetlamp. The car behind me 40+feet took some paint and traded mirrors but mine took the brunt on both drivers side doors. I cant use the back at all and I need two hands for the front now. I have all my plastic thank god and they didn't break a window. Must have been doing 40 drunk...... they should be so glad they didn't stop:Flame:zzz Now before I So what does anyone get from insurance these days for an old 82 gl? I had no major dents or anything!
  2. Well here in seattle the way these lovely snow plows with rubber packing blades took care of the roads, we were left with 6" tall cowpatty sized chunks everywhere and it tore apart my already weak steering rack. Since the idea of real snow in seattle is like kittens landing on the moon, everyone skipped work and I don't get my rack till next monday, after I was told it would be finished by wednesday the 24th. Can't blame um'..... but it sucks. I'm just glad no one has been hurt.
  3. I wouldn't go 14"s (again) just due to tire selection. 15"s are much more common.
  4. C'Mon! I can send you a couple bearings if you are missing some. They work great on the fridge with harddrive magnets! Make sure you don't have a cracked cup like I did. Clean it "before" you go to the store for parts like booties. I had to turn around again and go to the jy to get a whole new axle....then go to return the part??? Well, I didn't, Just tossed it up for spares I'll use later. Just trying to save you a trip.
  5. That does look quite fixable if the top hats are ok. It does look like the jy is going to be your next best friend. In the picture I don't see were a ball joint is, its just this flat piece of metal, missing the hole for it. If the knuckle is fine and the rubber boot kept the strut from getting damaged and miracles come to save you, did I forget steering and brakes?, (its still attached) the empi booties are like ten to fit'een bucks, for the axles, and balljoints 25 new at napa. I read a post were he was talking axles apart at the pull a part so as to check for wear and getting like three of four sets worth for like 20 a piece. That and an alignment and your on! price point. Oh, GD's write up rocks, come to think of it! http://home.comcast.net/~trilinear/axle_rebuilding.html I'm so hoping that doesn't happen to me right now, I'm beginning to have my own issues on the same topic.
  6. Well I think I'm gonna get a fix before a conversion after playing today:) It seems like a part that won't be hard to find and not to expensive Some new ball joints and tierod bushings while its up and allignment when its down. As soon as its snow free I'm under some cars, I'm not jacking in snow to do the crawl, especially just to look.
  7. have you tried telling anyone where it is? lots of people know the roads.
  8. Dang! I want a subi dumper! That is great!
  9. I haven't been able to find one in the local area and the price of a new rack, manual or power, just pushes me to want to do it right the first time.... and with the noise in the front..... fast. I think I need a new rack,..... soon. Its my dd and I'm planning an ej swap anyway. All the parts are in but this and the snow and cold is the only thing stopping me from pulling this ej22, to get this hulk out of my yard and for the progress I want to make towards this car. If I can push the ball, I'll get the heads done up nice, new seals and belts and a full wireing look-over and a welded set-up on this lift its got almost all new suspention, brakes, rear discs and its all ready to go.....But this. This economy..... I just don't want to buy it twice and I think it might just have to happen that way. I know, I know, (I'm thinking to my self) buy the new manual and replace it till a miracle ea81 fully working power steering rack just happens to show up in front of me. I have to say ...this site has really opened up a new world for me to understand cars and to unleash some creativity on the world. I thank you all.
  10. O.K. what "real" work is it going to take to put power steering in with out the whole crossmember from a doner? I am going to drop a ej in my roo from a power everything 2wd 90 leg auto ( I hear my wireing will be fun) but if its going to get re-plumbed to the ej, why dont I start afresh? Isn't it just the box and plumbing, pump and anti rub/vibrational stuff like everywhere else? I don't see what the big deal is, I know a factory can make some nicer looking parts but function and safety seems really doable. Am I missing something? Drilling a hole for grommets and such isn't hard http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/images/smilies/subaruzall.gif, brackets? What? Is the mounting just that bad? I have pics of the boxes but no crossmembers. I have a 82 gl wagon 5spd 2" lift on 14"pugs with toyo a/t at 26.6" and rear coils. soon to be ejed and I hope with power steering, wainscotted rear, fully wooded deck, uncracked front window, fully working drivers window, then, fenders, fresh painy (by me) http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/images/smilies/boozing.gif b r green with rallyx stripes and a light rack with a yellow saftey beacon and floods just lower than my custom wood lumber rack:banana: oh oh oh and working rear window defrost:horse: then winch and off road bumpers. oh god I love this weather!
  11. Thanks. Well, any one know of a junk yard brimming with power steering ea81s in Wa.?
  12. No interchangeability between models? I see no mention of impossibility in the ea series manual ( or pictures of them seperately either) but I do see a big difference in the legacy obviously. I would love to have the same turning gradient that ea82's have in my ea81. With power steering it would be heavenly! Mine is getting loose and I can just hear it.
  13. Hey, is this the same for an ea81? I would love to convert! Is there a crossover between models to be aware of (like my 90 leg donor car, waiting for my swap or an ea82)?
  14. I like the truck! I plywooded the rear of my 82 over the rear seats, after taking them out of course, And that gave me storage and speaker slots along with a 6" + sleeping area larger than original, i.e. just big enough! My gl is my lumber wagon. So we just got 7+ inches in seattle and for the first time it was to down to 14 F. Prolly gone soon but it happened once! 200+ people sleddind and skiing Denny ave from capitol hill by 2am last night.
  15. Clean and positive! I have mine hooked to the round protrusion on the carb above the disty. Easy as bending a wire. I like the hole idea better, it looks like it wont slip off puddle jumping.
  16. my 87 was different than my 82 only in mounting and cable direction but swapped perfectly.
  17. Dont forget to pick one that is short enough to fit in the dash. I went with a kenwood but I had to get the short bodied one because the heater is so close.
  18. looks kinda like the stuff they soak guns in. Have you tried kerosene?
  19. On/in one of my tank lines in my 82 wagon there is/was an in line restrictor/one way valve plastic doohiccy just in front of the firewall in the engine bay, I think its before the filter there(?). Does yours have the same? Might be an issue there causing a clog as well.
  20. Well it was $50 for a used axle but its in and on the ground. No ticket from the po. I did it all in front of my house on the street. Thanks GD. The axle slid right out without a fuss. Thanks Edrach for the axle writeup and for your concern Threeeyed. I've almost got a full axle in parts and self confidence to do it again. I got to hit the yards farther out of town! Stuff in town or just on the outskirts are so expensive! A steering shaft to go (just delivered) and rear discs, a brake bleed and alignment after I get new tires on the pugs and I'm on the way to an EJ! All my parts are here! (right...:-\ ) I really would not be able to do this with out you all! (Tearfull sob)
  21. There are a few yards I have still yet to try. The axle swap does seem easy, add on a can of cleaner and it still makes sense to do it yourself. Its always a fight, and a learning experience when you try things. I well remember the first time I broke a bolt deep into into my engine block. I really was so just hopeing to be on the road already. I guess if I get an incomplete spare set I can always run rwd.
  22. They are all over seattle, I've seen a ton, but, none with.... a rack mount!
