  1. Welcome!! Nice car, you'll love it!!
  2. yup same thing here, in my region, all the old subarus rust away to nothing. It's a shame.
  3. Yeah you gotta throw some lift in there!! at least a couple inches
  4. IMHO go with a cheaper one. I have a cheaper one on my RS and love it. I can't remember what brand it is, but it is much cheaper and it works great.
  5. Yup! That's all the years that fit, but just remember that they all have the same body style as your car!!! There are a couple different body styles that intersect with those years, so in order for the axle to fit your car, it has to be the same style.
  6. Lift it!!! And don't beat the piss out of it, wheel it and keep in mind you want it to last a while. As long as you take your time when on the trails, you can make it last.
  7. Very nice looking Brats! I like the top one, very clean. Yes people have done the conversion before. I'm not sure if anyone on here has done an STI swap into an older car but plenty have done EJ swaps which is the same style motor. So I'm sure you can get a lot of questions answered. Welcome to USMB
  8. Great ideas guys! I would love to see something that could be used on the road as well. Unfortunately out here, unless you travel out of state, there really isn't a lot of since having a rig that is trailered. You really have to have something you can drive on road to go to the trail. So that's what I'd like to see. And obviously it will have to be a little more involved but who knows, maybe just get a little more precise, and go off of what Brain is talking about. Anyways great thoughts and keep 'em coming!!
  9. Just loosen it up, they should just slide past, but if they don't, try a flat head screw driver and a hammer.
  10. You also get something in your email, I did anyway
  11. I believe SJR (Scott in Bellingham) is getting ready to do this to his Legacy. Maybe ask him some questions. I know it's been done before
  12. Good point! I don't blame you. But we'll definitely have to meet some day!! I do plan on coming out that way at some point to get me one of them rust free cars! Sorry for hijack Scooby
  13. Awesome! Last few steps! You must be psyched!! Can't wait to hear her run! Subaruguru, come on out to Maine!!
  14. No there are other ladies on here, not many but there are a few
  15. It will work but you will need the whole rear crossmember with the rear diff etc. And then you'll have to drill out the holes to mount the assembly. It has been done and can be done
  16. po420 stands for catylist efficiency below thresh hold. Which states right in there is the cat. I agree with The Scooby. A large reason for this code is the crappy regular gas that is sold now. Try running a higher octane gas and maybe even an octane booster. Hold off on replacing the 02 senso
  17. yes it will swap into your car. You'll need the driveshaft, clutch, flywheel, possibly the rear diff as well, and a few wires and odds and ends. But well worth doing.
  18. Here is an EA82 (Thanks The Loyale) And here is an EA81 (Mine) So anything from the EA81 style will fit your car
  19. They made your style car in those years plus a few. Any axles from either side from a car that has the same body style as your car will fit in.
  20. They did start making that style in 1980 but most likely anything that old will be the older Gen 1 body style which is different. Good luck with your search!
  21. You have an 83 GL which is the EA81 body style. The next newer body style which was made from 85-94 is known as EA82. The axles do not interchange. an axle from either side of another EA81 will work. Any from 82-89 with the same style body as yours.
  22. Twitch says his is for sale
  23. Is the coolant topped off? If you do change the thermostat, use an OEM one from Subaru
  24. My plan is to do what jbbvw did, and use EA82 control arms, knuckles, axles, and lengthened radius rods and tie rods. That should help a lot with the camber issue. And I can get new EA82 axles from the local NAPA and so far they have been very strong.
  25. It's good you have someone to give you a hand on the wiring! It does look a lot better once all the extra is cut out. Good luck with it, can't wait to see it!
