  1. That's what I have. By far the worst welder I've ever used but it gets the job done, you just have to get used to it.
  2. I have one in Mine. I drilled out holes in the top of the radiator support to bolt it on like it would in an EA82 car. It works very well!
  3. Believe me I know! I'm still out of work! I have an interview tomorrow though!! Oh and I used all scrap metal for my bumper. It was 100% free to make except for the electricity the welder used!
  4. Ahhh, I remember now:rolleyes:But still, he's gotta have a rugged bumper! Mine isn't great looking either but it serves it's purpose, and is much stronger than the stock one!
  5. As long as you crank the power up and bump up the wire speed it should be ok. Especially if you bevel the ends of the box tubing. That's what I used and it's very strong! I'll rip it off the Brat before it will break.
  6. Looks pretty decent!! Nice job. When I did my rear bumper, I just used some square box tubing and bolted them near the stock location. Then I welded a tube onto the end of the box tubing. It was very easy and very simple.
  7. Phizinza, did you just french the whole headlight bucket onto the radiator support and then cut openings in the grill? Looks cool!
  8. Looks very nice! And it's a 5 spd dual range!! Cool car! This would be awesome to do a EJ swap!! Nice buy!
  9. if you are looking for a direct LSD swap in. You would have to find a VLSD from a 5 spd Legacy turbo 91-94. Other than that you'd have to "build" one from a turbo GL and those are hard to find now as well.
  10. he is on here under scott in bellingham you could possibly ask him some questions.
  11. The biggest thing is that the drum brakes on trucks are built very big so that they can dissipate heat better and they can take more heat without glazing. They actually work better when they heat up a lot. Obviously any brake will start to fail if they have too much heat built up. But the little drum brakes on cars aren't designed to dissipate as much heat and when you ask a lot of them they are not going to work as well, which is why they are designed to not have a lot of braking power sent to them. Disc brakes are out in the open and have the ability to dissipate heat much quicker. Also brake fluid which is hydraulic fluid starts do break down with heat and in hard braking situations can start to feel spongy, but air doesn't work that way, it can take as much heat as you want to give to it and yes it will expand, but that only increases it's braking power. Yes I did take the class a while back and because a huge part of the test is air brakes, you have to learn all about them and about all types of brakes. I'm not flat out disagreeing with you but there is a lot to look at when talking about the differences between disc and drum brakes.
  12. I agree about not using drilled and slotted rotors on these old cars. It just doesn't make any since. A decent quality OEM rotor and some good pads will do just fine. And I also agree with replacing your fluid and making sure your calipers are working and sliding properly. It makes a huge difference if everything is properly lubed and free moving!
  13. Here's mine, I obviously have different headlights now. They aren't great, But they have a cage built around them for protection. I still want to get some more on my Push bar
  14. Bug trucks have drum brakes but they are much bigger(actually overkill) and they also run off air. It's a little different. Take a truck driving class, it's a great way to learn about why they are used on big trucks and why they work better on big trucks and not as well on cars. Heat is the big reason!!!
  15. Also look for rust! That.s one of the biggest things!
  16. Hmmm, that's a good point, I never thought about that. I wonder if it actually works that way. That would be cool.
  17. If you can, post some pics on here so we can all see the "rare" factory suby winch, Right on the vehicle
  18. oh okay, well it will sound pretty mean. But that's about it. It doesn't give it anymore power or anything
  19. Yeah they are getting harder and harder to find!! I'm lucky, my Brat came with them! and that's why I noticed a difference, all my others had regular drum brakes!. Even with big tires the Brat stops great! on and off road
  20. Yes if you could find a set of rear discs, that would make a huge difference! I love mine and saw a huge difference even without adding a proportioning valve!
  21. Just out of curiosity, why do you want to put this on your car?
  22. Yeah I mean Loyales and GL's. There are still tons of early Legacy's here, but very few Loyales and maybe a couple GL's. I'd even like to get my hands on a clean Loyale, so I could swap a dual range into it!
  23. Same here, but we aren't that far away from eachother, every other car is a Legacy or Outback. But no old ones:-\

All you really need to do is get a complete donor car. Get a 4WD car and take the whole rear crossmember, diff, axles etc and bolt it up into place. You probably need to drill out the holes. But it's the same body as a 4WD car just doesn't have the running gear. You will also need the 4WD gas tank as well. Then after it's all bolted up, hook up the drive shaft/center bearing, and rear struts. It's a fair amount of work but it can and has been done lots of times!
