  1. Not all of "us!" As modern cars got more electronically controlled by sensors and computers, I certainly got more intimidated. Felt like I no longer understood what was going on under the hood. Sure, I'd change oil and spark plugs but that was about it. What changed? Well, I found USMB. Good people who would share, offer suggestions, give step-by-step instructions if needed. But mostly folks who give inspiration and assurance--"it can be done and, yeah, you can probably do it." I for one am extremely thankful for the internet and especially this forum. Mahalo and Aloha!
  2. Have you inspected the sockets that the bulbs plug into? I had one fry a while back (bulb was fine) and I think the other one is getting a bit flaky now.
  3. Must be a good feeling Gene J! By the way, how old are your daughters?
  4. Sorry 'bout that! Guess we have to let the poor guy take a break once in awhile. Glad you had a good experience.
  5. Time to put in a plug for our buddy, Jason, at Mike Scarff Subaru in Auburn, WA. Nice guy, knowledgable and has always had better prices than other online places in my experience. West coast location makes little difference since everyone ships stuff everywhere anyway! Call 866-528-5282 and ask for Jason in parts.
  6. But did you have the engine running? I believe that's necessary to get a correct reading on an automatic.
  7. Way to go, frag! I love it! Plus the junkyard guy gets to keep his $50 brake lever!
  8. Absolutely the only way to do it. But does the OP even have a tripmeter if his speedometer went bad?
  9. Well keep it up Jerry--that's a very nicely composed picture of a very good looking vehicle! (However I know what you mean about remembering how to post pictures!)
  10. Way to go Sonic! For the less knowledgable (like me) what do you have to do to r&r the fork, drop the entire tranny? Thnx.
  11. Congratulations--nice looking vehicle. From the pix it looks like it was very well cared for. And 5-speed with 2.2, that's great! Enjoy.
  12. Hoo-wee! Lookin' good! No wonder you're excited. What did you move up from?
  13. Yes, please do--might be helpful to some down the road. Hope you don't need the cat too, but if you do go for the "one-piece" keep us posted. Thanks, avk.
  14. Sorry nipper. I didn't realize someone was timing us.
  15. I think that's a terrible price too. Try some auto-electric shops or starter/alternator rebuilders. Suggestion: If possible, remove your starter, take out the contacts and carry them with you. There were 3 different styles/configurations for my '95 Legacy L . . . took me 3 tries to get the right ones! Good luck.
  16. If you can respond to OB99W's questions we might be able to narrow down the possibilities.
  17. Are you sure it's oil? Or could it be grease from a torn boot? Might be worth a look-see. Good luck.
  18. Yup, there sure is. This writeup by avk might help you. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=61591&highlight=avk+o+ring
  19. Did they actually look to see if there's a connector? My '95 is OBD2.
  20. Politics, religion and . . . oil! We all have our .02, but you folks are able to share a rare insight from inside the engine--multiple engines in fact. Valuable information. What's your opinion on synthetics like Mobil-1? Thanks Emily. I appreciate your sharing.
  21. Okay, okay! Happy now? Seriously, stay cool when you go look at it and keep looking around online. The "right" car is out there somewhere and it'd be worth a roadtrip to go get it. Aloha--and good luck.
