Caliper slide grease
Olnick replied to Suzam's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHmmm, interesting. Hadn't thought of it that way! All I know is that it's a special "high-temperature" grease specifically for use in brakes. Got mine at NAPA--auto stores usually have it in small plastic squeeze tubes, enough for doing all 4 wheels if I remember correctly. Good luck.

9 codes at once??? '97 OBW
Olnick replied to outbackusjunkus's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFunny you should mention that--I just saw the term for the first time on another car forum and have no idea what it is. So . . . what's a PCM?

What does a power steering pump sound like when it starts going bad?
Olnick replied to mtnbob's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFirst question in my mind is where is it going? Is it leaking out on the ground? Are there puddles under the car? I swapped out my PS pump a few years ago but later decided it was just a belt problem and there was nothing wrong with the pump--a rather expensive mistake!

Help me decide between 1995 Legacy's.....
Olnick replied to TeamPanic's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCheck out Cars101. The first Outback (1995) was simply an L with some options. Suspension was the same. No bubble roof. And I'm pretty sure the lower body panels were simply painted with the "Outback look." It did have 15" wheels (but so does my L now!)

Power steering pump whine
Olnick replied to shortlid's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHey, don't take my comment the wrong way--I think it's great that you posted a follow-up after two years! Are you convinced that it really is the pump? Reason I ask is that I replaced my PS pump a few years back because of "noise." then a year later I noticed that the drive belt seemed narrower than normal--I think it had the wrong belt when I bought the car. Replaced it with a new belt (5 rib I believe) and things have been great. At any rate, good luck tracking it down.

Help me decide between 1995 Legacy's.....
Olnick replied to TeamPanic's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIIRC the only difference between the '95 Legacy Wagon and the Outback is paint. At any rate, the '95 2.2L is a superb engine. At 125,000 miles mine, with manual tranny, feels like it is just getting nicely broken in. Of course at that age the decision will depend on the condition of the vehicle itself. There's good advice above. Good luck!

Diagnosing a Bad Coolant Temperature Sensor
Olnick replied to 79er's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI think at this point I'd pull the IACV and give it a thorough cleaning, including the hoses. Doesn't cost anything other than time and cleaner. Did mine a couple of years ago and have had a very smooth and predictable idle since then. ('Course I replaced the coolant temperature sensor too sometime back and that solved a lot of problems, so who knows for sure?!!) Anyway, we had some threads talking about the IACV so it might be worth a search. Good luck!

AutoblogGreen has another article about Subie Diesel. Nothing particularly new but it's nice to see that it's still being talked about--and favorably too!

big subee day today, stuck in park?
Olnick replied to triiifashions's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXRe the oil filter: you don't need to go to a dealer (unless the dealer offers an excellent price.) As Turbone said--Wix, Purolator and Napa Gold are generally considered to be very good quality.

Cylinder order
Olnick replied to Valijean's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAnd to create a mental image of nipper's layout, picture yourself under your car on your back and looking up at the engine!!! But why do you need to get #1 to TDC? You can hang the belt according to the marks on the crank and cam pulleys. Just make sure you use the right ones!

Subaru mentioned in this low gas mileage article.
Olnick replied to SUBARU3's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI haven't really gotten my head wrapped around these proposed new standards yet, but the "footprint formula" seems grossly unfair to me. Seems like they are giving an unfair advantage to the oversized, less efficient--and generally unneeded--SUVs and large pickups. Anyone agree with this?

Sory guys it all went so fast..... :(
Olnick replied to PeterD's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOh man, I feel for you PeterD. Looks like it was a very pretty car. What year is it? Just be thankful you're okay (I assume you are) and move on. There's another Subaru out there looking for a good home. Good luck!
