  1. Ok im really confused as to my brakes. If I apply the brakes lightly as anything over 40mph I get a vibration in the steering wheel. If I brake hard a few times the vibration at highway speeds is kinda scary. I have new duralast rotors, pads, rebuilt calipers, shoes etc. What could it be? To attempt to remedy the situation I am going to remove the rotors and take them in for warranty and I just got a set of Bendix CQ Ceramic pads from rockauto on special for $10.85 You guys think that will help?
  2. This morning I sanded the primer down with 1000grit. Threw the first coat of paint on and got pretty good coverage. Its thinned 50/50.
  3. I have a HVLP gun that was given to me I just dont have a compressor (which I can buy) or a place to do it because of all the overspray.
  4. Just finished 1000 grit wetsanding on it and took the masking off. No painting until late tonight if not tomorow because its cloudy.
  5. Indeed it should stand up fine several years if waxed and what not. I painted the front part under my radiator with rustoleum without sanding the original paint and I used a brush. This was about 6 months ago and it looks great. The parts that get hit by the most sun are covered in bedliner I am going to buy another can of it when im done to finish it up.
  6. Here is the third and final coat of primer and my surface before sanding:
  7. I do plan on adding hardener. I purchased valspar which seems to work good with rustoleum. There are plenty of examples of cars painted like this holding up fine. charger69 is the most famous who painted his charger orange around 6 years ago and has put 35k on it and still looks good. I guess I will see how it goes. I know reel paint is better but I cant afford it.
  8. With regards to the fading, a guy painted his corvair several years ago and has taken pics every six months or so. Still looks like it did when he was done. Keep in mind this isnt as simple as giving it a cote of rustoleum and your done with it. Decent automotive paint materials would have been around $150, then I need a gun to shoot it, a compressor, a place to do it etc. etc. This is simple, I guess keeping it waxed will help just in case it does fade.
  9. Its typical 3M blue masking tape. Guess im gonna need 2 or 3 more rolls. I plan on sanding every 2 coats with 1000grit.
  10. One coat of primer on one side of it. Mixed 50/50 died to the touch in about 30min. Quick question: When I wet sand will I have to remask the car or will the tape hold?
  11. Update: More sanding, bondoing and glazing, learning as I go. Sanded with 220, 400 and finally 800. Waiting to glaze last bondo. Will hopefully prime tonight:banana:
  12. I have a sweeet camera it was just out of batteries :-\
  13. Im going to attempt the rolled on rustoleum job on my Gl wagon. Y have already sanded it down with 220 and then 400 sand paper and removed the 2 lines going down the sides. My question is how do I remove the plastic trim on the doors and fenders, is it possible to do without breaking the clips that hold them in? I was thinking about just painting around them but thats even dumber I already attended to the small dents and scratches with some glazing putty. Materials purchased: 2qts sunburst yellow 1qt flat white clean metal primer pack of foam brushes 2 packs and roller refills 2 paint trays 220, 400, 800, 1000 grit sand paper glazing putty brown paper for masking masking tape 1gl of mineral spirits Total came in at around $83 after taxes.
  14. I had a few questions about mods to a 2006 Forester XT. Its 100% stock as of now Im interested in doing some mods. How does the following sound: Ebay Header Ebay up pipe ebay down pipe complete custom 3" exhaust with cherry bomb STI intercooler Better pads all around STI Pink springs Exhaust cutout or full exhaust?
  15. Ok guys I would like your opinion. Currently its the original Gold paint on the sides with the roof and hood in bedliner. I wanted to know what you guys thought would look better: Bedline the whole thing Paint the sides World Rally blue Paint the sides that funky Subaru Yellow They will all run around $300-$400. I can have it painted for around $320 if I do the prep myself, or I can finish the whole thing off in Herculiner
  16. ROFL Made me giggle and cry at the same time
  17. EJ swap is out of the question. Currently running a EA-82 SPFI with a 5spd single range tranny. I was thinking of dropping in a rebuilt EA-82T and doing some mods for some more power, my goal would be around 130-145hp. Would it be possible? Ive heard stock computer can handle around 12 psi is that correct? it would be a daily driver. BTW I have a brand new aluminum radiador currently in it as I hear overheating is the main issue with EA-82T so I might be able to add a second fan considering I dont have any AC This is what I had in mind: Top or front mount intercooler BOV Raise Boost psi Maybe raise fuel pressure? Well done 2.5" exhuast to go with it Anything else I would need?
  18. Shifter is starting to feel kinda sloppy :-\ Is there anywhere I can pick up a full kit?
  19. Would this grinding be dangerous? IE its a daily driver
  20. Will these wheels http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=96888 fit my EA-82 wagon?
  21. Negative ghost rider.... Let me explain it better: The downpipes up to the point were they meat is made of 2 metal tubes, a sleeve and the inner one which actually carries the gases. Well now one of the inner portions on one side snapped and I cant take it out because it bends... Meaning it simply sits inside and rattles, not much but it sounds like doo doo :-\ Cant imagine the gap is good for airflow The inside pipe is what broke, IE: have no exhaust leaks...
  22. Took off my downpipes to replace the gaskets and I noticed that one of the inner sleeves on one side had broken off. So now it rattles at idle and im sure limits airflow.... Should I leave as is or have one fabd up?
