  1. If it's not too crappy tomorrow (too damp or too humid, or both) it should be in paint. I took my time with everything to date so I guess I can wait for a decent day to finish it. I'm just goofy when it comes to paint in that I like the weather to be pretty nice to have it shot. I really would like to have it going back together this long holiday weekend so I've got a window of 3 days to get it painted. Say a prayer to the rain gods for them to give me at least a half of day of nice weather over the next 3. The way this couple of weeks has been weather-wise its a roll of the dice. :-\ We just had about an hour long thunderstorm that seemed like the end of the freakin' world. It honestly looked like a tornado sky for a short time.
  2. I believe they only were available on the 1982 Brats and possibly some other years/models of wagons.
  3. Progress pics added, pages 7 & 8. http://www.flickr.com/photos/26905545@N07/sets/72157605926523746/detail/?page=7
  4. Pretty neat, ain't they?
  5. Who makes'em?
  6. Those slim subs look interesting. I was going to go with a 6 or 8 inch Bazooka Tube but I may look at these. Thanks for the tip. I'm thinking the 6" would be plenty in the cab of a Brat, right? Both are similar in size so should I go 6 or 8 inch on the slim subwoofer? I'm definately running an amp located under the passenger seat so one of the slim subs would work under the drivers seat. Since I'm running an amp thats why I was leaning 16 ga. wire.
  7. Upgrading the audio in the Brat project. Pioneer DEH-P6000UB stereo with Sirius Kenwood KFC-1687 6" rounds in the doors Pioneer TS-TRX5 boxes behind the seats Not certain yet but MAYBE a smaller (10") cheap subwoofer Pioneer GM-4300 amp pushing them Question: What size (gauge) speaker wire? I'm thinking 16 ga. Also, if I go with a subwoofer is it absolutely necessary to put it in a box enclosure or can I hide it up under the dash without a box?
  8.          I'd rather find a mouse. Especially if I was driving at the time.
  9. myhilo, I got the wheel wells right from Subaru thru the parts counter. When I got them there were still a few available. Yep, the seat belts are in there. They are part of the bolt-in seat frame that I have. I'll get some pics and post 'em.
  10. Finally getting around to finishing this project. It's just been miserable weather here in the Northeast and everyone seems to be lacking enthusiasm including me. It's at the body shop and should be in the new paint this coming week. Going with solid white in a single stage enamel. Pooparu is working on some camo halo decals for me as well. Here's the link to the progress photos. I'll post 'em as i take 'em. I figure I should have everything back on the Brat (inside & out) by the 4th of July. http://www.flickr.com/photos/26905545@N07/sets/72157605926523746/detail/?page=7
  11. Is Peerless a budget grade of one of the bigger companies (Bridgestone, etc) or is it its own company? I'm trying to find a site that has the specs for these tires, in particular the O.D. on a set of 205/75-15's. Anyone?
  12. I stuck removing two exterior trim items from my '85 Brat for paint prep. If someone could tell me how the following 2 pieces are removed I'd appreciate it: 1) The dummy side step on the lower portion of the rear fender. The actual step was simply 4 phillips but how about the other side (non-step)? Do I need to access something from the removable access panels in the bed? 2) The false louver pillar trim pieces directly behind the doors. Naturally the 2 phillips screws, but then it seems as if there's something in the center of the lover on the back side thats holding it in place. I looked behind the interior trim panel but nothing. Is it simply snapped into a clip? Do I pull straight out, or does it need to go back or forward. Don't want to break these 'cause I'm sure they're hard to find. Thanks.
  13. Made a final decision and the truck goes today. Decided on going with a single stage DuPont ChromePremier Urethane. http://www.blueridgepaint.com/pdfs/Automotive/singlesatge/H-19311_CPUreSS.pdf No clear, just color coats. Going with a very bright solid white, no metallic. I'll post pics when she's done. Also going with a set of halo decals from Pooparu. Doing them in urban gray camo material.
  14. Sending the '85 Brat that I resurrected out for paint http://http://www.flickr.com/photos/26905545@N07/sets/72157605926523746/detail/ What should I have them put on? Acrylic enamel? Deltron/Imron (Polyurethane Enamel)? Acrylic Urethane? I'm having it done bright white. No metallic. Should I have them clear coat or just go with color coats? Vehicle is going to see its fair share of road driving (me) and I'm sure bush parties (my kid) so I'd be looking for something pretty durable. Suggestions? Right now I'm leaning toward Imron (Poly Enamel).
  15. YOW! Look at the length of that timing chain! These things have to be noisy as hell.
  16. OK, the car is nice except for the miles. Can be bought for mid to high $6K range. Deal or no deal?
  17. Over from the older generation group. I'm looking at a 2003 Outback H6 3.0 with 145K on it. I know nothing about these newer engines or cars for that matter. What to look for? Concerns with these engines or the mileage on it? I'm told that 95% of it is open road/highway driving as a commuter vehicle. How many miles do these things go. I know the older EA81's will go indefinately with the proper periodic maintenance but how about these things? Thanks.
  18. I have a rear window defroster setup that has 2 leads going to the element. Recently the system has not been working. When the dash switch was in the on position the indicator light didn't come on as showing the system was working. I checked both element lead wires with a test light and found that only one lead has juice to it when the dash switch is on. I cleaned both leads and plugged them both back in and nothing. No indicator light on the dash switch. I unplugged the lead from the element that had no juice to it and turned the dash switch on and got an indicator light. WTF? Can the element function with just one lead plugged inand supplying power?
  19. I had a p/b 5 speed in an '88 EA82T wagon and loved it. I ran 205/60-15's with no lift and the car never let me down. To date it may be the most dependable vehicle I ever owned. That thing was awesome in the snow. Never did any hard off-road with it so I couldn't comment on that, but for a road piece I loved it. If the PennDOT winter road pre-treatment hadn't done in the underside I'd still be driving it.
  20. Yep........regular automotive acrylic enamel.
  21. Have the Brat ready for paint. I live in Pennsylvania and for those of you not in our part of the country its been incredibly cold as of late. Long range projections show no significant relief either. While I know that the car will be in a heated garage for some period of time before, during and after prep and painting I can't help but think its better to hold off until warmer days are the norm. Any thoughts on painting vehicles in extreme cold?
  22. Eliminate the dash speakers and run a better speaker in your doors as the front channel. Add a set of truck box speakers behind the seats as the rear channel and your set. http://www.flickr.com/photos/26905545@N07/sets/72157605926523746/detail/?page=7
  23. Don't know if they'd fit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-Brat-rear-tail-lights-nice-no-cracks-complete_W0QQitemZ260331902245QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item260331902245&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A10|39%3A1|240%3A1318
