Does anyone know a good way to do this? I had a close call in a chevy LUV today farting around in some oversized puddles (read: the carpet got soaked). I want to swap an EA-81 into my '85 wagon and i am trying to figure out how to keep the disty from getting wet when it is mounted on the front of the motor.

I zip tied some wal mart lights onto a thule roof rack and ran the wires in the gutter down the A pillar down to under the hood. works great. you can kind of see the wire behind the radio antenna, but other than that it is invisible the only problems i had were when a tree branch broke off one of the lights. thanks to the zip ties, it didnt sustain any damage and i found it on the ground 2 days later and re-attached it. Still works!

Its referring to the numbers in the vehicle's VIN. 4 and 5 are the fourth and fifth digits in the VIN code. The 4th represents the make and the 5th is the series. I'm a little confused about 7 though because that is what kind of seat belt system it has. Are you sure that 7 is right? It should be the 8th number, as that represents what kind of engine it has in it. The both the EA-81 and EA-82 are both 1800 engines but use different parts, so the 7th (8th?) digit will tell them the specific engine. What year/model car do you have?

I learned to drive stick on a three cylinder metro with no tach. Now that i'm driving subies every day i notice i always shift around 2500 to 3000 rpm. That is going to change.

I honestly couldn't tell you. I would have the alternator tested and see if that is the problem.

loyales don't have nicer things the GLs do. for instance the 94 model did not come with oil pressure and voltmeter. but the other years do.

I've lifted one of those before to put it on a motor dolly and it was sketchy with three people

How are you supposed to reach the tranny mounting bolts that are on the bottom of the engine?!? I can't fit my breaker bar in on the passenger side cause the axle is in the way and on the driver side the distributor and all the other crap is in the way

I ran into a roadblock. the neighbor broke his tractor, and i cant for the life of me undo the transmission mounting bolts. And just for the heck of it i ran a compression test cause the engine was running like poo and three cylinders read 150 psi and the other one read 180 psi

My engine hoist is about the same size as the car I'll try to get some pictures

I am going to pull the engine out of my '85 wagon tomorow. I am reading up in my chilton manual, and i would read my haynes book too, but i can't find it. It has a weber swap so that takes out a bunch of the unnecessary crap and I am planning on using my neighbors tractor that has a bucket to take it out Are there any tips i should know so i don't screw up?

Also, I'm thinking of making a whole subframe for the car. Still haven't decided yet.

can some one give me the measurements of the top plate of a gen three front strut? Just the side lengths would be great. Because it is a triangle, they would all be the same right?

I know, but that guy also says he has a torsion bar on an 85' DL. I could be wrong but i thought that gen 3s didn't have torsion bars

Does anyone have the size of the bolts you need? And i have started gathering materials for the strut tower blocks

Thanks for that! I now have 14 2x2x4 blocks that are ready to be drilled. i got the 14 from a site where a guy put a 6 inch lift on a brat. not sure if the number is the same for gen 3's and i still don't have a good idea what i'm doing

This is what i have to work with: and i have a LOT of it. And what i have done so far:

So i want to build a 4 inch lift kit to replace the 2 inch that is on my car now. I started making a list of all the pieces i need to make, but i left that list at one eye's house and it was incomplete anyhow. So if someone who has one, or has made one, or knows what their talking about () could give me a list of pieces with measurements and where they go, that would be awesome! And as a second thought, if there is a thread with this information that i couldn't find, that would help too.
