  1. Oh yeah I checked pep boys yesterday and still no luck with that permatex sealant why is this stuff so hard to find? I'm going to fire off an email to them asking what's up with checking 3 auto stores with no sign of it Oh man the leg parts for the engine lift must of been about 120Lb for it alone
  2. Another thing is dont top off the tank it just goes back into the storage tank but you pay for it
  3. Hmm the 97 OB the clutch has 24 splines right? What size is the input diameter?
  4. This happened to me on a 98 Forester I went to check the EGR and it must of been getting stuck.. it was a pure pain to start.. It would take almost 10 seconds cranking before it had enough to start up.
  5. I saw this early this morning I would think it would be the other way around? as far as being at BDC? so the pistons are retracted in the block? Having said that my gaskets as far as I know started to go around 221K Going to pull the heads next week. interesting thing to note is it really only overheats if it's really hot out and I'm moving slow or I turn the A/C on. I did a 651 mile trip and it never went hot coming or going Gaskets look in poor shape just looking at them installed...
  6. Why is your kit so much? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280597292428&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT
  7. Im going flat because thats less stuff to mix
  8. almost everyone has the color I want to shoot (black) I plan on shooting flat black next year
  9. let me guess the bolt where one of the cams snapped and broke the plastic on the cover? Haha I had that problem too.. I just left the cover off (it was the pax side) I'm glad the newer models don't use that setup anymore. I got a little scared because I took the car off-road into some mud and rain+ snow and all.. but it was fine.
  10. Speaking of those ebay timing kits... i'm buying mine in the morning Now I did one for my EJ22 and I had no issues at all.. but with the DOHC should I use the belt with the kit? I know I have to go get a water pump gasket tomorrow.
  11. Odd I'm looking at the FSM for my 97 OBW and I don't see anything about the shims under the DOHC engine.. would it be under on-car services? i swear I saw it someplace before...
  12. I never knew summit sold paints however I don't think it would be as good as the nason paint?
  13. between the leaking cam seals and front oil seal and the rear plate I'm going to need to stock up on some shop rags..
  14. I have a program I got on my phone called Acar and I use this almost every time I fill up it's pretty cool tracks gas prices and my avg MPG and how much fuel I've put in the tank so far total.
  15. Can't the clutch be changed with the motor in the car? I'm leaving the 3rd week of Aug for the transmission to be replaced. As far as that nut I guess I should be ok.. I have way more then enough extensions (seem to adopted some) but I will make a note of that.. I don't think my total extensions add up to 24" however.. this reminds me to pick up a feeler gauge tomorrow I'd have to check the FSM but I think it talks about how to find out what shim you need if you need to replace them. I'm going to be doing the timing belt at the same time I've been looking for 2 months on and off each time for Permatex Anaerobic, I go to the auto store (advance auto, auto zone) and I've never seen it in the store anymore.. I thought maybe they stopped selling it? If I can't find it local tomorrow I'm just going to order it online.
  16. I took struts out of my 95 legacy some time ago they were really shot.. it was no effort to compress them and when you did they never popped back up...
  17. pending for the last week of this month I have a few questions getting to the bolts as far as the starter and bell housing is it going to be hard to get to those areas? I was not going to buy my clutch this week but next month but I need to get to the rear oil separator I'm pretty sure they make a clutch alignment tool just by it's self? I just have permatex ultra gray anything else I need to be looking for? Now as far as the heads go I thought I saw on some site or whatever about something pops out when you remove the cams? Also is goof off ok to use to remove the built up carbon never the outer part of the cylinder wall where the head meets the block? Any suggestions on a 12-pt 14mm socket in 1/2"
  18. LOL I wish I can put a grill on my car still.. the car i brought somehow got bunched up in the front.. I'm about to remove the engine the last week of this month so I should have much room to hit the frame with a BFH. I was wondering if all that flat black was going to clash but I think it turned out really good.. it's like 5 coats, plus 2 coats of UV clear.
  19. Must have a level ground? the filler that goes to the tank does not go that far down.. you would only have issue if say your driveway was on a incline.
  20. have you ever looked inside the tank from Full to half a tank? not that much different visually..
  21. I too had this problem when I did the belt on my EJ22 but it was fine.
