  1. Ditto--An' when I 'cross the GLF-I two foot pedal:)---was 4 sec faster than the NEW Mini Cooper S's (now there are two) at the track:lol:--all out of a less-than-$2000 '82 GLF--The new Falken Azisus Rs tires (205/50/15 race compound on 0" offset rims) did help a bit---I'll post the new pics soon--you should see it now--looks kind'a like a old Hot Wheels car---
  2. OK--I think everyone has seen the Solo Subie--I just finished the full drop today--ground clearance is now 5 & 1/4" all the way around---I'll post pics (updated) tomorrow---
  3. Thank You!! One of the reasons behind Frankinintake was to reduce the time that the fuel charge was exposed to hot water heating--you do need some to prevent intake iceing (when it happens-your power drops WAAAAA off:))--but the amount that Subaru included was over the top by a fair amount. I also wanted the tuneability of a side-draft carb--yes, they are more work to keep in tune---but when you hit the "sweet spot"--all hell cuts loose!! Also making the intake runners longer promoted a better powerband higher up--I find that my power comes in all at once at 2500/2800 and starts to fall off at 5500/6000--will work better when I run a hotter cam to take advantage of it-- Didn't mean to hijack the topic--just like spreading info as far as possible--WE HAVE HONDAS TO SLAY!!!
  4. Take a look at what I've done with "frankinintake" and the exaust work on the Solo Subie--The exaust would be louder than you would want on a daily streeter--but flow in & out of the engine helps alot--I'd do the basics first like the other guys said--then open your flow up--you still most likely won't net over 100hp, but it will perform better---
  5. I'd welcome you guys out the next time--Track practice is on Sat (cost-$16) & you can run all day---Sunday is the event (cost-$22) & you get three-3 lap timed runs--lots of other cars to look at & talk to the other drivers--All-in-all, a great weekend!!
  6. Well--The Solo Subie Went & did very well for it's first outing--Didn't take top time of the day , but was a respectable mid-group runner---Was faster than a Mini Cooper S:grin: & slower that the cars with slicks on---(the Cooper did a 1min 65sec+ run--my best was a 1min 64 sec run!!)--felt good out there--We ran the track for THREE laps:D---Had a great time out there--Doin' it again in a month--Next date is June 19/20--Anyone interested in showing Subaru force--Let's rock!!
  7. Damm-& I thought it was only good for a carb cold air intake!!! The Solo Subie & the rest of the crowd----
  8. Hey Guys-- Assuming that the rain holds off (cross fingers) I'll head out in the morning--say that I'll be out there 9/9:30 AM--depending on how many cars are running--I should be there until 12 or so--Anyone wanting to come out is welcome!!!! (& yes--it is at the Sports Park--Go-cart track)
  9. Ye Haw!! Was out at the track for the practice day--It's REAL fun having a Subie that makes the jaded gear-heads walk up to you & say "WHAT is in that thing???" The car corners real flat & can be "tossed" at will--come into a corner--back out of the power for a sec (plants the fronts) & Wade into the throttle while counter-steering--the tail comes out & you hear a WWWWWWAAAAA out of the Dellorto throats at full open----Yea--thats living!!! Timed runs tomorrow--I can't wait:grin: All the Honda boys came over to see WHAT IS THAT THING? (And some said that it looked tuff-rad-hot)-----Remember---- SUBARU RULES!!!!
  10. After several more hours of grinding & fitting--Frankinintake is on the car!! Power curve changed quite a bit--you can now just touch the pedal & get a firm push in the seat --more than a lite touch & you are at redline--shifting into another gear:grin:--My first shot at it is offset too much--did not account for the large angle change between the heads--looks kind'a different & works great!!
  11. Used a power bandsaw, hacksaws, carbide rotary files & anything else I could find:)---Check out the pics in my older post on the exaust--thats the exaust shops work:grin:--sounds real sweet---
  12. Thankx!!! The car is a Autocross/SoloII/Street machine--The plan is to toast some Honda boys with it-------
  13. Glad to hear you found it--hope you are back up & runnin' soon---I'll be cutting bushing material tonight--I'll drop you a note---
  14. Got the last of the grinding on the inside done today--mounted the carb & made the throttle cable mount--I've got to do some more bodywork on the car tomorrow & Thursday I'm taking the car back down to the shop to set-up the carb--weld seat rails on the '92 Honda Civic seats & the guys at the alignment shop are doing a 4 wheel after hours for me:)--got too much work to get done & not enough time until the first practice on Saturday--Sounds like the start of a racing season to me!!!! Wish I could tell the boss "I need two days off"---(fat chance!!)--so the car will be raced without the flares (no time)---but should be ready mechanicaly!!! To those who are interested, the cars page is-- http://performancebydesign.netfirms.com/subaru.html I haven't updated it yet--will do it after this weekend-maybe I'll have some good times to post:)
  15. The intake is set-up to point the carb to the rear--I've planned to use the '97 Outback hoodscoop to blow cold air on the carb (a cold-air box is in the works)--The spare tire left long-ago--The intake I got off of eBay was a old Cannon unit--there is a cast-in balance tube right at the mouth of the intake---not many people know about balance tubes anymore-- As for the carb--I have a 40MM Dellorto with 80mm chrome ram tubes on it:grin: The manifold was a real B**** to make--most likely have $300 or so in it in time & materials-- Thanks everyone!!!
  16. Cut the stock manifold very carefully--you can still see the watercross-passage (used it to keep it all aligned)--mandrel-bent tubing & a a old weber/dellorto intake off eBay + lots of cursing---& lots of grinding:grin:--still need to finish the rear inner areas a little--but I needed to quit for the night---
  17. Hey MorganM--- Didn't really do too much--The GLF is a 2WD, so there was lots of space--I used the stock rear three mounts--the system is one welded part from front to rear--I plan to not need to R&R the system very often & when I do, I'll drop the whole thing down & set it off to one side.
  18. OK---Is everyone ready for a EA81 intake converted to accept a side-draft 40MM carb???? I present for your viewing pleasure (drum-roll please) FRANKININTAKE!!!!!! MHAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!
  19. Now I get it:) The next time I'm at the shop, I'll shoot them---& by the way, I just got the intake today!!! It'll be in a seperate post------FRANKININTAKE!!!
  20. I bought a brass two-row for the wife's '89 wagon--The radiator in the Solo car was a stock one row & I has a local radiator shop make a two row for it--I don't think that a EA82 rad would work in a EA81--It was easier to have mine rebuilt.
  21. I've got three pics on a lift at the shop at the bottom of the post--you can't get them?:-\
  22. Normally to spew a large amount of oil out of a EA82 engine--you have lost the front main or the oil pump seal--We have gone to using only Subie factory seals at the shop--the aftermarket ones seem to be just s***. I have just replaced oil pumps--if you can buy a jap-made one, they are the only aftermarket parts I trust--I've seen lots of junk coming from China & they just belong in the trash.
  23. Hey NorthGuy--See--It just takes time for us crazies to sit at the computer--after-all, its more fun to be out doin' what you & your Subie want on a weekend:grin:
  24. Lets see- Wanted: One Subaru Mech willing to scramble brains like eggs to go across the US of A to do strange & crazie stuff to Subie Brat--- Sounds like a Monty Python movie to me:lol: Have a great one!!!!!
