  1. It is possible that they may have disconnected the battery to do the install. If so, the computer may have returned to its default program or tune so it may take time for it to relearn your driving habits.

  3. I fixed my misfire a while ago with new plugs. Turns out that #3 electrode was totally shot. :-\ I still have the occasional burp/stumble at low rpms( >2500 ) but it does not bother me enough to deal with it. No codes either. Dean
  4. I would. Then for fun, tear the trans apart to see what can be learned.
  5. I went through about 3 Autozone rebuilds in a few months. The first was bad bearings, the second was bad diode and the third was bearings again.A little fustrating but they kept swapping out no questions asked. Since this last swap it has been over a year and all is well. I would use autozone again. I suppose if you really really wanted to, you can source the bearings fom a company like Mcmaster-Carr. (http://www.mcmaster.com) If you have a caliper/micrometer handy, you can match the inner diameter, outer diameter and RPM needed. Sometimes they also have a trade number stamped on the bearing case (example 2304). I do this when I need bearings for equipment I rebuild for my job. Dean
  6. I had the same issue on my 97 OBW post alternator replacement. The previous owner of the OBW installed an aftermarket Viper alarm. :-\ If your neighbor has an aftermarket alarm, there should be a seperate button under the dash to reset it. On the Viper alarms, turn on the ignition and hold the button untill the lights flash and the locks reset.
  7. I have used the Meguairs kit. Seems to be holding up pretty well. I did it about 6 months ago on a set of headlights from the pull a part for my outback.
  8. I got 3 bad rebuilds from Autozone last year. Two were diode pack related and the third was a bad bearing. This all occurred within 1100 miles. I would also have them load test the battery. It is possible that one of the internal plated could be shorted. I know you mentioned that it was a new battery but its worth a shot.
  9. If you have access to a decent compressor, you could sand blast them then paint.
  10. Like Nipper, I have a hidden hitch. It came on the car and seems to work good. It tucks up near the body with the only part seen is where the receiver is.
  11. On my 97 OBW, the cladding is a sticker over the paint. I would think that if you dont see rust bubbles under the sticker then the fender would be ok.
  12. As olnick mentioned, year and model please. I know on the 97's that side is welded in. I am not sure on replacing the bushing as I just bought the whole assembly from Subaru. I have seen writeups on here of people who did this with brass bushings and i belive shoulder style bolts to increase shifter feel but with in increase in interior noise.   13. I saw you mentioned that your ball joints were ok. How did you test them? I had the same issue when I went in and out of my driveway over the curbing. Turns out the passenger ball joint was bad. I could grab the bottom of the tire when it was in the air and pull it up and down and see movement. Did that and the thump stopped. I also wound up replacing both inner tierods, outer tierod joints and passenger wheel bearing due to more movement after that. :-\
  14. Could just be a weak alternator. Is it a stock or reman unit? When I come come at night and roll the windows up with the headlights on, the lights get dim. It has been this way since I bought the car and have gone through several "reman" alternators for bearing and rectifier failures. All remans I have used have performed this way. The only reason I keep using the reman units is because I keep getting them for free under warrantee.
  15. It will not come up for sale for quite a while. They gave it to their son to use for now. Since he is away at basic training for the Army, his mom is driving it occasionally. The person I am helping is a coworker that does not have much mechanical knowledge so I help out when I can. Im the resident mechanic in the group I work for....
  16. I put 800 miles on it going to Florida and back..... Once I wear out the current tires, I will put on a set of stock WRX wheels I picked up off a buddy for $50. The best part is that they are totally straight. Just some minor curb damage to fix.
