So what's your opinion about JDM engines?
a long time ago..... i got an engine from a JDM importer (not on ebay but through my garageman) and it was a darn good engine and also one time I got a 4EAT through the same company and it rocked too. The engine was a 2.2 though and the trans. was a legacy 4EAT..... Matt

'05 Impreza Sport oil filter wrench
subeman90 replied to swc7916's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat filter is the one that came from the factory.... do not buy a wrench just for that filter because the one you replace it with is NOT that size! I know it is on there pretty good ( I have a scar on a knuckle from one) but you might want to go pay a local garage to knock it loose and then just go home and finish the job yourself. EDIT: BTW, it will use the same filter as your legacy OB. If you have more than one soob that uses the same filter buy them in bulk and save like I did.... Matt

EA82T Burning oil under boost, and blowby...
could the low compression be a HG or cracked head? Don't think the worst yet.... if it is a bad motor put a 2.2 in it. Matt PS: Still a good score though...

LSD on a Legacy!?
subeman90 replied to simbey1982's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhey Josh....don't you have to run the special additive in the VLSD's as opposed to the regular oil in the reg. LSD's? Just wondering if this is folklore or it is on the level? LMK, Matt

RAIN OR SHINE!!!!!! my blow out for 70's and 80's UPDATE 4/21/05 !!
if you expect a 1986 Brat with 167k or whatever on it to shift like a miata then you are really grasping at straws. I have NEVER owned an EA-81 that didn't have a rubbery shifter. Granted there are a few folks on here that can correct this issue but.... I guess it doesn't matter anyhow. Right? I have seen the posts about the thing being a POS. Well buddy let me tell you...he was giving you a hell of a steal on the thing. You must not look on ebay much do you. Matt

*World Event*! Vintage Subaru Meet! 1968-1989 Subarus
Had a great time getting soaked up at Paul's on sat. The trip home was lousy but we made it and that is all that matters. Didn't roll into town till 4am and the last 30 miles were a fight to stay awake but who cares..... I made a great score from Paul and must add that the folks that didn't make the trip missed out on some great stuff....not everything was free but paul was giving walmart deals on "the better stuff". To the crew that was there: it was great seeing you all again and hope you all had as much fun as Michelle and I did. See you at the next show in May. Paul: thanks for dinner and for having us up there! Matt

Crap! I never went that direction on the Tappan... sorry Rally. Paul: what time is the festival starting? I'm bringing the PU for a couple of reasons...one being I pressured my pop into getting it svcd. so i could bring it and long story short the garage bill was $1200...so If I don't drive it I am going to look like this guy --> (hey paul...quit buying sh%$ would ya. ) Jessie: are you comming down to Paul's? (incase you don't know who I am...I helped push your SVX around 2 wknds. ago) see you folks on sat.... Matt

*World Event*! Vintage Subaru Meet! 1968-1989 Subarus
I think you could BUT it would be a long slow trip. If your impreza is as nice as you say it is then I can't say that I would do that.... Isn't the brat driveable? Matt

CB Radios
My buddy and I went to a truck stop about 30 miles from home last night to look at radios (i'm not the nerd...he is) He wanted to get some Galaxy with a freq. counter that costs like $450 or something like that... None in stock...go figure. :-\ If anyone is looking for a CB (used of course) please let me know. Eddie (my friend) will hook you up cheap and if you want any internal work done he can/will do that too! If anyone wants a home base unit he has 2 (i think) Cobra 2000 units for sale at a very good price. BTW, Just so you folks know...everything is on the level. Nothing is HOT or anything like that. LMK...i'm 10-7, Matt

CB Radios
I have a cobra 19+ that has been "tuned" to do 30W. I have a buddy who is good at unlocking, "tuning", and adding more frequencies. I once talked to miss. from here in town on my 19+ and a K30 (not a K40 a K30). I'd say that was quite impressive all things considered...BTW, I was in town at the time this wasn't out in the country on a mountain or anything.... Matt

TCS on the dash on 2nd Gen Lib/Legacy
subeman90 replied to AlpineRaven's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSpeaking of US models so the could be some year differences but... in 1995 subaru mad a 2wd legacy (2nd gen legacy). These models came with TCS (traction control sys.) This was Subaru's cheap alternative for people who didn't want to pay for the AWD but wanted a soob. Here in the US in 1996 subaru went AWD standard on all models so the TCS became a moot issue. I have only seen two TCS equiped legacy's in my life...one in 1995 and one about a year ago on a car lot in the middle of nowhere. The TCS basically controls wheel spin using brake force to slow a spinning wheel. It works in conjunction with the ABS on the car. If you want to screw with it... mash the gas and see the difference on/off. Have fun.... Matt

Anybody else notice the upswing in prices on Subaru's?
subeman90 replied to demsgudeatin's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe prices are a little higher than they should be....I have been thinking that subaru is pricing themselves out of the market too. As for the remark about Becker (beckersubaru.com ).....I have bought 3 NEW cars from them in the past 4 model years...and I can tell you first hand that their prices on new (along with the cheaper financing of a new car) outweighs their used prices hands down. The wagon that was quoted as being used is most likely about $1500 if that less than what they would sell it for new. If you finance that car you will get used rates though and actually pay more for the car. Dem: think about this....the guy I bought my car from (which quit reciently) told me he once sold an OB to a guy in colorado. He and his wife flew in to Leigh valley airport (allentown) and took delivery of their car. Then they drove it home (mini vacation) and was STILL about 1k less then they could have done locally. Do some more shopping, Matt
