  1. Congrats! And no, he doesn't run his little Soob all around the interstate at 90MPH when within reason...he just does it when he doesn't think there's anything in his way, or when he wants to make the poor ol' Justy driver go deaf
  2. No Paul, the old ones are on the South Island...where he is:-\
  3. If it's FWD then don't risk it, change it now. Crutchfield is pretty good but ours is not a highly profitable car for them. I'm sure if it was a Honda Civic speaker set you were after they'd be able to set you up fifteen different ways...but they do fairly well for even the more obscure models.
  4. Hmm. Paul, I think I might've left my camera battery charger in the hotel room...can you give them a call for me? It's not turning up anywhere else. Whoops.
  5. You can milk 150K miles out of it if you have a part-time 4WD trans-just shove it into 4WD after the axles break. Instant RWD. (Though this is not recommended.) All turbos and XT6es use the 25 spline, N/A engines, the 23, like Jerry said.
  6. Yeah, yeah. Working on it. :-p Jon, I stripped the interior out of the Justy to bring home Paul's mother lode of NOS Subie parts...but we didn't cut a deal there (the guy was gone most of the weekend) so it ended up being a study in how badly I could degrade the NVH in the Justy without improving ride, handling or gas mileage to any noticeable degree. Works like a charm--I suggest you not try it Interior is back in and box truck and van & trailer are at Paul's disposal next time he has a weekend free (hint hint).
  7. If it is the head gasket and you do end up tearing it down and rebuilding, replace the internal oil pump while you have the engine apart. They're notorious for failure.
  8. Wow, I must be psychic, didn't see this post 'til after I called. :-p I'm following Connie down and will meet up with you whenever.
  9. Sure you can rent 'em...10¢ a mile per tire I'll make sure you have decent rubber. They're on black steelies, trim rings and centers optional. You might want to come here to get them though (room is going to be tight on the way down with Keith's engine in the back) Sorry I missed you. The phone didn't ring. Call you tomorrow...
  10. This guy: http://www.geocities.com/svxdc/WRXharness.htm has some Subaru stereo install tips, and information on the wire color-coding for most years. I went with a Metra harness into the stereo and then clipped the forward harness out of a junked Impreza for my stereo (I have a WRX 6-disc CD/AM/FM/Cass installed in my wagon). But separate ground wires would be better. The mirror, like he said, is only 3 screws. Just get a new one. Paint and rust...strip the weatherstripping off the doors and sand/primer/paint any nicks. Also around the door edges, hatch edges, etc.--anywhere there may have been nicks that exposed bare metal. Catch it now. As for the paint, some dealers with body shops can mix a small batch of touch-up from the paint code. Or any reputable body shop or paint shop that's been around for a couple years should also have the paint chip set and code instructions. Take care and enjoy her for many years to come!
  11. I have a good set of 13"ers and a 74K mile engine to lend to the cause. Would also be willing to adopt for a short period of time...
  12. "For Sale" signs are forbidden on the general/show areas of the fairgrounds. You'll need to stick with it and take offers if someone looks interested. Remember to register a car or two and save Matt some cash if you're definitely coming!
  13. What, you don't like sushi? That's what I had for dinner last night... '73 is definitely not going to be there. I'll have a white Leg and a red Justy. Connie, please give me a call when you've got a minute.
  14. And what's up with me picking up that engine in Guilford for the swap? Or is someone else getting it? aparker4.mac.com AT earthlink.net 413 222 2428 or pm me...
  15. Is it possible to sleep in the car at the Carlisle fairground?
  16. There's a KOA at Gettysburg. http://www.koakampgrounds.com/where/pa/38114/localarea/daytrips.htm I don't know how far away it is but the Cars at Carlisle is listed in their "Day Trips" for that site--so I'm also going to assume this is the closest one.
  17. I will let you know later in the week but we got a lot done today on the Legacy and with the Justy rehab. The Justy's still a little loud but the t-belt is done and she's got a fresh coat of wax...the clutch should be in the Leg by the end of tomorrow.
  18. Who, me? Sorry guys, the yellow Beetle went bye-bye...the monthly maintenance/repair bill was more than the car payment As of right now I have no idea what I'm bringing. The Justy is dented up pretty good and the muffler is failing, both turbowagons are off the road (one overheating and one with a siezed 3AT), the '73 is having overheating issues and I need to locate a t-stat and water pump and the Leg still needs a clutch install. It might be 3 people showing up in one Justy, but I'll be there.
  19. Connie is in--any objections to starting the caravan from her place? (It's more convenient to 84)
  20. Personally I prefer the '87-'89 turbo wagons. Any options as long as they're not a 3-speed automatic (the '88/9 4EAT was actually pretty decent) but I have a strong preference for the '87 part-time 4WD GL-10 turbo 5-speed. Now if only I could FIND one. Legacies are nice cars. But EA series cars are more comfortable and better handling, I think--I like the smaller size, better gas mileage, availability of part-time 4WD and even the seat comfort.
  21. Depends on what you mean by "wagon"-the Leone started production in '71 as a '72 model, the FF1 was in production in the late '60s (I don't know if the first model year was 1968 or 1969), the 360 Custom was available overseas in the mid '60s and I think '63 was the first year for the 360 Sambar van.
  22. There were actually two versions of the EA63, the difference was in the exhaust ports (4-port '73, 2-port '74 and later). Also the '73s ate head gaskets like no tomorrow, the '74 and later...welll, they weren't <i>quite</i> as bad...
  23. My vote's in for Mica Red Pearl, Subaru factory color code #685. It's actually a deep maroon, not give-me-a-ticket red. I'm also partial to Sunflower Yellow (factory color on the VW New Beetle) but that's a flat paint and may result in a ticket if it's not on a "cute" car.
