  2. Setright, as far as I know, all Foresters are Japanese built at Gunma. Subaru of Indiana here only makes North American market Legacy, Outback, Baja and Tribeca models.
  3. Oil leaks are common but relatively easy to fix. The electrical system is great. Check the brake lines, and jiggle the doors around and check the drain plugs--sometimes water can accumulate on the door bottoms. Other than that, rust is only sometimes an issue with the first-gen models in the normal places you'd look on a wagon; later models are very well-built. Also, the exhaust system is somewhat expensive and very problematic, and the heat shields may make a racket--check to make sure they're there as well. Tires cost me $115 for a set of 5 new ones last time I had them replaced. Regular maintenance is very cheap, anything out of the ordinary, not so. The local dealer isn't so great about getting Justy parts, either.
  4. Yeah, that's Harry's, he pulled it off his web site. My collection's a little bigger.
  5. Yes, all those parts are hard to get. Wait 'til you find out you also have 3 different sized windshield wipers, too. I don't know of any dealers in my area that have Justy parts on hand--the nearest is about 30 miles away, and they've only got some limited old stock.
  6. It's closer to 30ish counting parts cars:rolleyes: But thanks. I love keeping them in good hands and away from the crusher. I just can't stomach the thought of getting rid of them.
  7. My Justy's going to Carlisle, but if we do it some other time (later than Carlisle) count me in. I'll also be in NH the first weekend in May, Concord area. Mary, I'm about 2 hours from you. I live about ten minutes south of Springfield, MA off I-91 (I'm in the Enfield CT area).
  8. Define "snazzy"--the GL-10 interior packaging started in '83 in the US, but I've never seen a checkerboard one. There was a sort of wave/pinstripe pattern on some 84 GLs though.
  9. Gwinnett Subaru of Atlanta has them right in their parts dept showcase display. Subaru of Gwinnett 2920 Satellite Boulevard Duluth, Georgia 30096 (866) 467-8227 (800) 584-8749 (fax) Liz Wilkins Parts Manager (678) 584-7245 (direct) (678) 584-7246 (fax) Tell Liz (parts manager) that the guy with the '73 wagon, from Connecticut, sent you.
  10. No major rust = worth $500 if you can title it and put her back on the road.
  11. A fried seatbelt control module thingy, a broken track or a broken motor/cable will also turn on Mr. Seatbelt Guy.
  12. One of the headlight-washer threads had a photo of a turbo EA81 hatch, JDM, about two weeks ago. It was brown. Part of a sales brochure.
  13. Thanks. As for driving it back...no brakes:banghead: otherwise I'd try...but I'm going to try following my dad back in IdahoJak's '75 coupe.
  14. I sent a check, USPS lost it, I cancelled it, Patrick wants to know where his money is, the bank just confirmed the cancellation Friday, I'm still looking for a shipper and the money goes out the door back to Scio Thursday. And my dad just put a deposit down on a 14' box truck. Road trip!
  15. You're basically stuck with some of the interior parts--the plastic wagon cargo surrounds out of the '87 will work with the Loyale but not the upper anchors because of the safety belts; the rear cargo lights are not compatible with each other ;-), intake, possibly tranny...but all the body panels and most of the interior will swap. The only real problem areas will be electrical stuff, where the Loyale has (or is missing) stuff your GL didn't have, like the electric seatbelt setup.
  16. Yes on both counts--but we never got the turboed hatch in North America. Also, as you probably know, the sedans were available with an automatic only if you ordered the turbo, the 4WD, or both. Edit: I'm not sure about the EA81 sedan. The EA82 Turbo Traction sedan was offered in 1985 only, with the checkerboard interior; so was the RX.
  17. Yes, they do have a disty. Love the color! I have gotten up to 41mpg highway with my '94 4-door 4WD Justy; I'd expect a 2 door 2wd to get a few more. Enjoy your beater!
  18. Woohoo! I've been looking for a high-mileage (gas mileage) commuter car for my dad...if you pass it up, can you send me contact info? I'll share in my wealth of Sooby parts for a finders fee:)
  19. If I was going to rally I'd go with an XT/XT6 wheel, just to be different. As it is I'm planning on a brown DL wheel (I like the slightly thinner rim) for my GL-10 wagon, once I'm done with the brown interior swap. (Almost there!) Edit: I also like the early '80s 4-button horn wheel, know what I mean? Also very different looking.
  20. I'm 3/4ths of the way done installing a radio out of an '02 WRX into my '88 GL-10. It involved some cutting behind the dash, a little bit of fab work and sanding on a faceplate adapted from a '90 Loyale head unit and a custom hanger, plus the reverse harness for the WRX head out of a '97 Outback Sport and the Metra forward harness for EA82s mentioned on Samo's page. So far it's wired in and working, and the faceplate is on, but there's still more drilling to be done, and the heater ductwork behind the dash is needing to be rerouted.
  21. My local dealer will cut the key for $2.95, however the key codes in Subaru's parts system are valid back only to 1987.
  22. The low-octane gas available in Wyoming, plus the fact that no one actually lives there to use an entire tankerful in less than a year, may have something to do with it (at least that's my theory). For reasons I cannot explain, this past summer my VW's gas mileage dropped from ~31mpg mixed to around 28 hwy during the week or so I was in WY. My guesses as to your mileage: -Winds -Bad gas -Altitude (most of WY on I-80 is over 5,000 feet above sea level--Cheyenne is flat, but higher than Denver) -Tire air pressure -Gas cap--lost, missing, or bad seal
  23. A year and a half for my XT Turbo, maybe 2 weeks??? for the turbo wagon. I have a high turnover rate...
  24. In these here parts, it's still possible to copy the VIN from the doorpost and have the dealer cut the key. Just have the dealer call the j/y to confirm that the car's on its way to the crusher and in no risk of being stolen. (The parts counter at my local dealer knows me by name, they never ask anyway.)
