What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
Got my ej22 swap running and driving. It was missing the gauge temp sender, so as I was filling up with coolant it started pissing all over the place. That really pissed me off until I found out what it was...

Intermittent Speedometer/Odometer Function
987687 replied to idrockyroad's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHere's the guide I wrote about that, but in this case the speedo works, but won't give the computer speed info. I tend to doubt that's the issue you're having, because if the head wasn't getting a speed signal, it wouldn't be able to send it on the the computer. And you'd get a p0500. Older gauge clusters almost work in 99's.... They come tantalizingly close to connecting up, but they don't

Got the ej22 swap in my LGT running tonight. Tomorrow I'll hook everything up and put in coolant and stuff. Just wanted to hear it run so I could go to bed knowing that engine worked.

Timing marks missing on crank sprocket?

ABS: Anti-Braking System
987687 replied to SchwarzeEwigkt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUsually the wheel sensors either work, or they don't. There's not much middle ground with those. And if they don't work (or get jammed full of snow...) ABS stops working and the light comes on.

ABS: Anti-Braking System
987687 replied to SchwarzeEwigkt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXif you use threshold braking you can actually lock the wheels with ABS.

90 or 93 EJ22 for 97 EJ25
987687 replied to 93Newbaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe 90 and 93 ej22 are OBD1, your car is OBD2. It's a different computer system. Since most of the wiring for the engine is on the intake mani (injectors, throttle body, coil, etc), you need the manifold that matches the computer system/wiring in your car. I really thought the ej25 manifold would bolt onto the ej22... but grossgary says it won't, so it won't. Go to the JY, get the manifold. Get the gaskets you need. Bold it all together and it should work. Cheapest and easiest option.

ABS: Anti-Braking System
987687 replied to SchwarzeEwigkt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGet real tires, and you'll be fine. I have a winter set of wheels and a summer set of wheels.... I don't use ABS mostly because my GL doesn't have it, so it annoys me on the Legacy. But on the Legacy it isn't horrible with GOOD TIRES. There's a billion threads about people hating ABS because it isn't god, and make you stop on a dime on ice with bald tires

90 or 93 EJ22 for 97 EJ25
987687 replied to 93Newbaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhy would you swap an OBD2 car to OBD1 just to run a different engine? Just get an OBD2 (95 +) intake for the ej22.

What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
Love my snow tires. I'm addicted, I couldn't run another winter without them. But then, I live in Maine... I drive on roads that are impassible without snow tires and 4wd/awd in some conditions. My driveway is one of them... Got the engine in my GT ready to pull, everything disconnected (pretty much). Didn't have it in me tonight, so I'll get a fresh start at it tomorrow. When I warm up a bit I'm going back out to get the timing belt on the ej22 swap engine. I can't wait to have it running!

Timing marks missing on crank sprocket?
987687 replied to 987687's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'm doing it all right. The blown ej25 in the car this ej22 is destined for didn't have the crank torqued down enough. Made a real mess!! And that wasn't even the worst of the damage the last "mechanic" did to the engine. I have my location set in my control panel thing, don't know why it's not showing. I'm in Maine. I probably could have gotten one from someone, but there's a machine 3 miles down the road from me, and they only want $10 or something for it. EDIT: maybe my location shows now?

Timing marks missing on crank sprocket?
987687 replied to 987687's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSo I found the mark on the tone ring thing for the CAS. It was completely obscured by years of grime... but once I started cleaning it up, HEY! there it was. I have the tensioner bracket at a machine shop now, I'll have it back tomorrow with a thread insert.

Timing marks missing on crank sprocket?
987687 replied to 987687's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks so much! So the crank mark I'm looking for is on the thing that gives the CAS it's signal? When I get the belt on, I'll post a pic on here to verify I did it right. Might be a while... The threads stripped out of the tensioner bracket... So I'm looking for a thread insert for that.

Timing marks missing on crank sprocket?
From looking at the FSM, and guides online, the timing belt on a 2.2 looks really easy... But I'm having an issue. From pictures it appears that there's an arrow on the crank sprocket to indicate TDC, and there's a mark you're supposed to use for the timing belt. Mine seems to be MISSING that timing mark. The ej25 I have party apart also doesn't have the timing mark. Just the arrow. The manual shows the "timing belt guide" but only for MT models, the 25, and I guess the ej22 I'm working on are from autos. So do not have this. What's the deal? From pictures the timing mark is 6 teeth to the left from the arrow, could I just count 6 teeth over and make the timing mark? What am I missing here? Here's a nice pic from rs25 of what I'm talking about, mine doesn't have the white mark, just the arrow. And that appears to me an MT because it has the guide thing. http://dave.oc7.org/images/2005.09.09.rs.motor.rebuild/images/DSC_8893.jpg If my logic is right, I can put a mark 6 to the left of the TDC arrow, which would rotate the crank 90deg. Put the crank mark on the timing belt there, and put the cam marks on the cam sprockets on the lines etched into the pully. And it will all be right. Just wanna confirm. EDIT: I should probably also note, it's a 1997 ej22. So it's interference... I don't wanna mess it up!

The Beefaru & Dr Krazy are in the 2011 Outback brochure!!
That's really cool!! Who on here has the car that's pulling the pickup? A few years ago some med student in Maine posted that up on Mainelysubarus.com and LegacyGT.com.

2003 Legacy Will Only Start in Neutral
987687 replied to OldJimBob's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust so you know, you don't have to push the shift release button to shift it with the engine off. Turn the ignition on, push the brake, and you should be able to shift from P to N. At least, my 98 works like that. Until you get it sorted out, that will at least save you having to push the shift lock release

Suicide by timing belt Please Help!
987687 replied to Jaimesbeam's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhere in Maine are you? You aren't talking about Warren AutoBarn, are you??! DON'T GO THERE!!!!!!!! They messed up strut install on my car, messed up my friend's car so bad it needed an engine, and actually crashed my car. Denied all of it! Nearly took a lawsuit to have them pay for damage to my car. The guy who runs the place is a crook.

Gauge swap
I made my own controller with a knob. Then something blew in my alt, spiked a lot of power through the electrical system and fried everything. heh.
