  1. The tow hooks were probably chopped off because the airbag recall. People would drive into curbs and hit the tow hooks. So the fix was chopping off the tow hooks...
  2. ^^ YES! Hopefully in the next 15 years when I can afford a 2012 car with an FB engine they're not gonna have all the EJ issues. Every EJ engine I've had either had timing belt or head gasket issues...
  3. You don't have a 2.2 DOHC unless someone bolted DOHC heads onto a 2.2. They don't come from the factory like that except in the 22B... That car has the phase2 engine/electrics so you'd need a phase2 ej22 to swap in.
  4. Mine was worth every penny. Especially with bigger tires it makes my car stop so well.
  5. Rick is good. He'll tell your friend what needs to be done, and your friend will probably listen to him. Sometimes people need to hear it from more than one person... I know I've been in that situation more than once. Had a friend wanted me to replace his clutch for him, but just the clutch disc. He wasn't going to get a new PP or surface the FW. And WOULD NOT hear me it had to be done, finally someone else told him and he went out and bought parts.
  6. I'll give friends who need a hand help with oil changes and silly easy things like that. But I only have a couple friends I'd do an entire swap for free... That's a lot of work. It's ridiculous if he expects you to do it for free.
  7. Show him this thread?
  8. First thing I thought when I saw that is "I hope those belt idlers are more reliable than the H6 ones...". Looks like a cool design though, the oil filter would be so easy to change... I like it! Also the plastic intake manifold, probably a pretty good weight reduction there.
  9. I'd check my grounds as well. Bad grounds can cause electrolysis, electricity in the coolant, and cause damage like that.
  10. If I buy the wheels too I'll have him keep the tires mounted so I don't have to pay the $40... I don't need to turn into another wheel whore. hahaha
  11. I'm getting mine off a very nice member of a local forum.
  12. Craigslist/local forum for tires!! I just scored a set of 85% winterforces for $100. Go to a reputable shop for an alignment, shouldn't be more than $75 or so. I need an alignment too, and to have my tires mounted, so I'm looking at about $205 for tho whole dealy. Heck of a lot better than 600!!! Shop around man
  13. They're crappy headlights and there isn't much you can do besides cleaning them. Get the JDM ones if you want good output.
  14. I wish I could give you all some of my snow.... I've plowed snow opening the door on my lifted GL way to many mornings this winter.
  15. The chain to the pedals works just the same as a normal bike. Which, is basically what it is. The chain to the engine always turns if the bike is moving. I've since blown that engine and am working on a new one, but I got a good 4k miles or so out of it before I killed it.
  16. Just a normal wheel. The chain from the engine goes into the other side of the back wheel. Just a sprocket bolted on.
  17. I built this two summers ago for my 6 mile ride to work. 150mpg FTW!!
  18. My dad had his pickup truck towed to a shop because it just quit running on him. It was a Friday afternoon, so it was just going to sit there all weekend till it got worked on Monday. He said he had no idea what it was... Full of fuel and everything. I said I'd driven it the day before and it was pretty low, he said "but the fuel gauge was all the way up, I figured you put gas in it!" (I was in HS at the time, why would I put gas in it haha) Apparently when his gas gauge gets really low it goes back up to full, then runs out We put a few gallons of gas in it and drove it off.
  19. Why would they let you shift it if it wasn't designed to do so? It doesn't engine brake as well if I don't shift it down, and I hate riding the brakes. I guess since I learned to drive on a stick, and have only driven autos when I was driving a rental or my friend's car, I'm used to being able to engine brake and shift when I like. Just trying to figure a bit out about this auto thing my car has so I don't kill it between now and when I get the parts for an MT swap. I normally wouldn't buy an auto, this car was just too good a deal to pass up.
  20. Thanks! I was hoping to hear something like this! I just wanted to make sure I'm not destroying the transmission by making it downshift for braking.
