lowering the wagon
My RX is lowered JWX had it lowered and I took it even lower still (yay coil overs [thanks again JWX]) it all depends on what you intend to use the car for. Drift machine wooho low and RWD .... mine is AWD and used for autocross (gymkhana in Austrailia from what I can tell)

91 Loyale wagon, 5 speed, 32mpg?
in my RX if I'm in a huge rush I will shift at 6500rpm otherwise its 2500rpm. When I race I shift by sound so its 6500-7000rpm. My car will get about 35mpg if I shift at low rpm.

hunting for grip
in FSP I am allowed to upgrade to bigger brakes providing they came on a similar chassis and are a "bolt on" so the XT6 is perfect FSP requires full interior but other than that anything goes. The only thing I'm not allowed to do is an engine swap that would put me in SM.

hunting for grip
The rabbit is not running little tires he is on 255/45/13 Hoosiers that stick out a mile. I think I'm going to end up on Hoosiers too because I can get light 5x100 15s that will handle wide tires. This is of course after the five lug swap

Qman that is the conclusion I am coming to... If I go 5 lug there will be three sets of wheels going up for sale...... 2 sets of premiums and one set of Enkies. the enkies have used Toyo RA1s and one set of premiums has BFG comp t/a Legend series all in 205/60/13

hunting for grip
I will respond to these in order if I can 1. I am currently running RA1s sized 205/60/13 currently these are the best I can afford (Thanks JWX) 2. I am running the same wheels as you have in your avitar. 3. I do have camber plates that give me -2.3deg camber front and -1.5 rear 4. I do outweigh the rabbit but I have 70-80hp on it too I have 20mm bars all around and the car rotates beautifully no understeer and mild oversteer with lift off snapage if needed. My quest for grip is focussed on getting enough wheel to handle wider tires. wider tires=more grip more grip=more speed into and out of corners and faster times. If I could fir 315 tires I would

On top of the 20mm front bar I added an xt6 rear bar. I just need more rubber. I'm going to have a look at a wrecking yard that has a few lift backs here and see if they have any xt6s. I tested the torque brake away on this diff and it was in the 90-95lb/ft right where it's supposed to be

I know and I have a pair of new WRX struts for it too

hunting for grip
As most of you know I use my RX as an autocross toy. I have noticed more and more the cars that are beating me have bigger tires. I am losing due to lack of grip in the corners (mind you we are talking at g levels that no normal street car ever sees). I don't see how I stand a chance against a 1600 LB rabbit on 255/13 hoosiers when I have 205 13 ra1s. Its like trying to catch a real live rabbit they change direction too well. Any suggestions will be weighed against the arbitrary budget but are welcome. rant/

holly carb on an ea81 brat
it all depends on what holley it is. if its a 5300 series then you have the holley clone of a weber any other series I would look up the part # to see if its too big.

Overheating on '89 GL
my younger brother had the exact same problem in his ea81 hatch and after tearing his hair out we discovered his radiator was mostly plugged. there were just two or three tubes passing water so in town it was fine but on the freeway there wasn't enough flow to cool. If you have a no touch thermometer you can see if it's plugged rather easily.

How to improve power/mpg on EA82?
I have two questions and a couple tips. 1. Is this car a manual or auto? 2. does it have anything bolted to the roof or hatch? MPG depends a lot on how something is driven. My RX for instance if given the beans will suck fuel down to the tune of 18mpg but if driven gently and short shifted it can hit 37mpg. So if you have a manual shift early and keep the RPM low. Now if you have an auto this advice will seem counterintuitive. With an auto accelerate briskly and get it into top gear as quickly as possible then let off and cruise. the fuel used getting to top gear is balanced by the time not spent in the lower gears. Tires don't get crazy with tire sizes here just use the stock size or as close as you can get but.... inflate to 80-90% of sidewall rating or what the tire manufacturer recommends for the weight on the tire. this sounds crazy but each tire is built differently and has slightly different load ratings. Inflated to the correct pressure your tires will not only deliver better milage but they will last longer. (standard disclaimers apply YMMV)

Help with 93 loyale wagen
look at your spark plugs wires and cap. it sounds like a high load miss. I would also change the fuel filter just incase you are starving for fuel. I had a car do this and the filter ended up being the culprit. worst case cenario the fuel pump could be on the way out but somehow I doubt that.

how long to change a clutch
this was about 45 minutes in all told 2.5 hours from shut down to ready to rock

how long to change a clutch
my concern is the engine harness its looking rather brittle and I don't see any plugs between it and the firewall. I think I'll drop the trans rather than risk hurting the engine harness.

how long to change a clutch
I have put myself in a tiny bit of a pinch so I am trying to figure out how fast I can change the clutch in my RX. I have a brand new kit but limited hours to take care of this due to working most of the time. Here is the question. would two experienced mechanics with air tools be able to change the clutch release bearing and pilot bushing in less than 4 hours?

I understand the ceiling being high on a sound system, that's where the quality lives. I am glad you are not the typical crank it till your deaf bass head they give high powered stereos a bad name. I am eagerly awaiting photos of your install I need ideas
