  1. I am using the EA82 mounts I had to modify the shaft to have the step far enough down that I could have rubber isolation. I'm not sure how Numbchux did his but I ended up chucking the shaft in the lathe and turning it down an additional 1.5 inches before I could have rubbers and be able to bolt it on. I can tell you its not fun having a whole shock spinning next to your elbow. it rained all day yesterday so the shock is filthy once again but here is a photo of it installed. I think I'll flip the top mounts just to have a little more travel
  2. I don't plan to go any lower than arms flat. I know that beyond that is pointless. I have built many race cars before this so I'm no fool. BTW: a BIG thanks to Grossgary for the swaybars and JWX for the coil over kit. This project is coming alive thanks to the help of members on this forum.
  3. a couple photos to compare ride height BEFORE AFTER the front should end up with a similar drop interestingly it was just 1.5 inches lower than when I got the car.
  4. It appears I have 4wd struts in the front so I think I can probably just pick up a set of 2wd struts an install the coil overs on them.
  5. I have 3 sets of 13 inch wheels all with different race tires on them and all in good condition. this is a big part of why I'm sticking with 4 lug. I am planning to go 5 lug at some point but 15 inch wheels in 5 lug are oddly hard to find in the style and offset I like. I have installed the rear struts and 450 lb/in springs. No more bottoming out on every little bump YAY! I'll take photos this weekend when I start in on the front.
  6. I finally was able to get the calipers around the stock struts and grrr .300 smaller than the miata struts looks like I'll be installing a set of Galant struts in the front.
  7. As of the last autocross (when the photo was taken) I am still using stock RX swaybars. I will be changing them out for stiffer XT6 bars very soon. This car is running in a modified class so prettymuch anything goes. I don't want to go to 5 lug because I would end up with a higher ride height. The 5 lug struts are longer than the 4 lug ones.
  8. I'm thinking it will not fit the knuckle more and more so I will hedge my bet and buy a pair of 1995 galant front struts. I am fairly confident the galant strut will fit the knuckle but I'm not sure about the damping. I guess we will see.
  9. I run 205/60/13 toyo RA1's on track and BFG comp T/A's on the street in the same size.
  10. At some point I will do a 5 lug swap but not until I have at least 2 sets of 5 lug wheels.
  11. it doesn't look bad at speed but I think ...... yes lower will be better.
  12. the goal is to quell body roll and maximize grip This was at a recent Subaru only autocross notice the massive lean.
  13. If I can't get these fronts to fit (they are slightly larger diameter than the Suby struts) I will pick up a pair of Galant struts.
  14. the modification I need to do the the coil overs is. I need to open the center hole to fit over the pressed fit collar on the strut this will allow more bolt length to attach the strut to the car. or I need to pull that collar off the strut. I will look at that tomorrow. Once everything is sorted I will install these struts. I expect to see a 3 inch reduction in ride height with good bump travel.
  15. The coil overs have just arrived and I had to test fit. it looks like I will have to modify the top hats slightly but otherwise a great fit.
  16. I have heard an urban legend that ea71 pistons in an ea81/82 will raise the compression and a set of MPFI heads will flow better than the standard 2 ports. I have not seen this setup myself but I can say having a turbo car the MPFI head design is a huge improvement over the 2 port. the cost of building a high compression mpfi head ea82 might far exceed the cost of swapping in an ej.
  17. I finally modified the front miata struts for my RX now I'm just waiting for the postman to bring the coil overs.
  18. I have miata struts rears are standard the fronts are modified to fit (mounting eyes removed) I expect to see the coil overs before Christmas and I will start the install when they arrive.
  19. I have coil overs from JWX and XT6 sways from Grossgary coming..... can you say gocart hehehehe....
  20. have a look at the rockers make sure none are broken or bent on #1 probably have a pass at the adjusters if there are any. My kid brothers car had both hyd and mechanical adjustments.
  21. you are not senile I too have the same symptoms and everything checks out fine.
  22. the clutch just went to the top of the list I kind of toasted it yesterday at an autocross. It won't hold 3rd gear now so time for a new one.
  23. I'm pretty happy with the power in my RX but the suspension leaves some to be desired. My plan is to take Numbchux Idea of Miata struts in the back and go a step further. I have a full set of Miata R package struts and a set of coil overs that will be going on my RX. The front struts will have to have a slight modification to fit (Lower mounting eye will have to go). I am hoping to add a larger rear sway bar for better turn in. Once the suspension is done I will turn my focus to the clutch which is slipping a bit in top gear at 11psi. after the clutch comes the fender flares and custom 13x7 wheels. that is my winter build plan
  24. in response to the OP the best filter for your car is the one designed for it. Subaru spent millions designing the engine to work within certain parameters and changing to a non standard filter might take it out of those parameters. the cost of a real Subaru filter is low enough to justify using the one designed for the engine. I may be a newer member here but I do know a thing or two about engines and what kills them. I've been building race cars for the better part of two decades. If you aren't sure then don't experiment with your engines longevity stick with what the designers intended and it will last a long time.
  25. I installed the axle tonight the one that came out was a mess. It had a torn boot and a cracked cage. I was literally driving on borrowed time... I also found loose bolts on the diff mount(mustache bar) the control arms and the struts everything is tight now and the car is much more solid feeling and handling is sharper:headbang:
