RX winter build
I finally was able to get the calipers around the stock struts and grrr .300 smaller than the miata struts looks like I'll be installing a set of Galant struts in the front.

RX winter build
As of the last autocross (when the photo was taken) I am still using stock RX swaybars. I will be changing them out for stiffer XT6 bars very soon. This car is running in a modified class so prettymuch anything goes. I don't want to go to 5 lug because I would end up with a higher ride height. The 5 lug struts are longer than the 4 lug ones.

RX winter build
I'm thinking it will not fit the knuckle more and more so I will hedge my bet and buy a pair of 1995 galant front struts. I am fairly confident the galant strut will fit the knuckle but I'm not sure about the damping. I guess we will see.

RX winter build
I run 205/60/13 toyo RA1's on track and BFG comp T/A's on the street in the same size.

RX winter build
At some point I will do a 5 lug swap but not until I have at least 2 sets of 5 lug wheels.

RX winter build
it doesn't look bad at speed but I think ...... yes lower will be better.

RX winter build
the goal is to quell body roll and maximize grip This was at a recent Subaru only autocross notice the massive lean.

RX winter build
If I can't get these fronts to fit (they are slightly larger diameter than the Suby struts) I will pick up a pair of Galant struts.

RX winter build
the modification I need to do the the coil overs is. I need to open the center hole to fit over the pressed fit collar on the strut this will allow more bolt length to attach the strut to the car. or I need to pull that collar off the strut. I will look at that tomorrow. Once everything is sorted I will install these struts. I expect to see a 3 inch reduction in ride height with good bump travel.

RX winter build
The coil overs have just arrived and I had to test fit. it looks like I will have to modify the top hats slightly but otherwise a great fit.

performance thoughts(just dreaming up thoughts)
I have heard an urban legend that ea71 pistons in an ea81/82 will raise the compression and a set of MPFI heads will flow better than the standard 2 ports. I have not seen this setup myself but I can say having a turbo car the MPFI head design is a huge improvement over the 2 port. the cost of building a high compression mpfi head ea82 might far exceed the cost of swapping in an ej.

Weird Heating Issue
you are not senile I too have the same symptoms and everything checks out fine.

RX winter build
the clutch just went to the top of the list I kind of toasted it yesterday at an autocross. It won't hold 3rd gear now so time for a new one.

RX winter build
I'm pretty happy with the power in my RX but the suspension leaves some to be desired. My plan is to take Numbchux Idea of Miata struts in the back and go a step further. I have a full set of Miata R package struts and a set of coil overs that will be going on my RX. The front struts will have to have a slight modification to fit (Lower mounting eye will have to go). I am hoping to add a larger rear sway bar for better turn in. Once the suspension is done I will turn my focus to the clutch which is slipping a bit in top gear at 11psi. after the clutch comes the fender flares and custom 13x7 wheels. that is my winter build plan

Oil filters-would bigger be better?
in response to the OP the best filter for your car is the one designed for it. Subaru spent millions designing the engine to work within certain parameters and changing to a non standard filter might take it out of those parameters. the cost of a real Subaru filter is low enough to justify using the one designed for the engine. I may be a newer member here but I do know a thing or two about engines and what kills them. I've been building race cars for the better part of two decades. If you aren't sure then don't experiment with your engines longevity stick with what the designers intended and it will last a long time.

What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
I installed the axle tonight the one that came out was a mess. It had a torn boot and a cracked cage. I was literally driving on borrowed time... I also found loose bolts on the diff mount(mustache bar) the control arms and the struts everything is tight now and the car is much more solid feeling and handling is sharper:headbang:

picked up a replacement axle for the rear of my RX today I'll be installing it tomorrow.
-
Another question for the gurus
I will do that when I install the car I got the axle from didn't have a bar so taking the whole arm off was easy. I felt bad taking parts from that loyale since it was so clean but the 4eat probably died.
-
Another question for the gurus
woohoo the pullapart just got in a loyale 4wd yesterday and I yanked the left rear axle this afternoon. tomorrow I will install it... Question is there an easier way to get an old axle off? I had to take the whole control arm off to get it off the diff.
-
Another question for the gurus
its my left rear that is going and I have an RX AWD so I would have to lock the center diff to have FWD right? the real problem here is the car chose to break two days before an autocross GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR:banghead: the movment is not the normal sliding it is a short clunky movement but on top of that I can twist the shaft slightly so it may be done for I'll order the part and repack this one to make the race. I'll swap the shaft out when the replacement arrives
-
Another question for the gurus
my left axle is making the clunk clunk clunk noise and has play in and out. How hard would it be to repack this thing and hope it holds? or am I going to have to buy a $75 axle from Napa?
