Dude, everyone needs to take this quiz!
lastchance replied to lastchance's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey, I'm in the process of redoing that quiz... I'm glad everyone seems to like it!!! Post your suggestions for cars I should add! Also, if anyone has pics of a possible result to the test (say a pic of a turbo XT or a Brat with a brush guard) post the URL here and allow me permission to use your pic on the quiz!!! Cya, Dan -
Hey guys, My boss bought an STI about 3 months and has already started the tuning...SCARY He was asking me today (since I know more about his car than he does) about octane ratings and tuning. Matrix Engineering on Macaddam in Portland Oregon was supposed to be having dyno day Friday for EVO's and Saturday for Subarus...Shiv from Vishnu was going to be there to tune and dial in everyone's cars but, had a family emergency and the AWD dyno day has been pushed back a few weeks...But, that's besides the point. He wants to run race fuel, like way high octane in his STI, but we were wondering if he tunes his car (via Vishnu electronic goodies on the dyno) will his car run ok without race fuel down the road? If the car is ran on the dyno and street with race fuel, tuned to take the extra high octane, won't this mess up his ECU/MAF mapping??? Thanks, Dan

Hey guys.. On my '90 Legacy wagon MT, I believe the starter is going out. When I turn the key to the start position I can hear the starter engage but it's very hard to turn over...It's not a slow turnover, it just takes like 4-6-10 times of trying to get it started. Here's what I've ruled out as being the problem: The car runs perfectly when it gets started, no stumble, no hesitation, no excessive gas consumption, so I crossed the fuel injection system off the list. All the injectors are pulsing properly by the way. I just replaced the battery and tested the alternator and they are both fine. Hmmmmmmmm Dan

Ok... I got in my car this morning to go to my folks place...I turned the key to start it and my alarm started going off but, it was sorta quiet and the car wouldn't start, all the dummy lights came on like usually but, the volts were reading low...So after a few more tries being unsucessful, I turned on my headlights then started the car....Fired right up! Hmmmm So, I made it to my parents house with totally normal charge, turned the car off and had the same problem with starting. I've had my car hooked up to the battery charger for about 2 hours and I just went out to try to start it but, to no avail. I can hear the starter engaging and trying to go but it feels like there's no juice in the battery. Any questions, comments, answers?

Hey guys, I'm just looking for a SUBARU font...Or something close to it Anyone know where I can find or download one??? Thanks DirtyD

Ok.... 1984 turbo wagon.... At normal driving everything is great...Lights work good, stereo, volts are pegged where they should be....But, when I come to a stop in my headlights get dim and my volts drop quite a bit, not into the red but, it's noticeably lower...It also is worse when my blinker and brakes are on (the volt needle jumps up/down/up/down at a low rate of voltage). So when I hit the gas to get going, the volts go back up and lights brighten up. Here's what I've troubleshot so far... Just replaced the the alt. belt, checked tension, everything is all good...Didn't cure the problem. Turned up the idle from about 450-500 rpm in drive at a stop up to about 600 rpm (750-800 at idle, which is what Subaru recommends) Well....My next troubleshooting step is you guys...Hopefully you can help Thanks, Dan

BOV = vrrrrrmmmmm psssss
lastchance replied to pleiades's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey dude... On your BOV...Where did you run that 8mm vacuum hose on top of the BOV??? I understand you run it to somewhere on your intake manifold that has +/- vacuum pressure (to hold it closed, or open it) I have an EA81t, so it's a little different than the EA82t but, hopefully someone can help. Blehh... See that's the thing...I'm pretty sure it should be idling somewhere between 700 and 800 rpm's. The headlights get dim when I come to a stop, so I'm sorta thinkin it might be the alternator but, I want to adjust the idle and determine if that's the problem before I go out and get a new/used alternator, know what I mean??? :eh: Here's my thoughts... Low idle=dim headlights=Cost of adjusting idle=Free Low idle=dim headlights=new alternator=ehhh, I don't want to think about it. :-\ :-\ :-\

Well... The subject heading basically asks the question. My 1984 turbo wagon (AT obviously) seems to be idling low. I've noticed this for a while but, thought it was just worn/loose drive belts. I replaced both belts and I still get the same low idle. Here's a break down: Start the car cold, idles to like 1k-1.2k...Normal Start the car when warm, idles at like 500...Hmm It's not a starting problem, but when the car warms up to normal operating temperature, it idles real low. So, with the car idling so low, I'll come to a stop sign with my headlights and blinker on and the RPMS will be at 500 and my volt meter will read less than 12v, usually sitting somewhere in the red, like the 9-10v range. As soon as I give the car gas (gettin the belts going/RPMs up) the volts will go right back up to what they should be. Hmmm... So, what do you guys think? -Dan

I'm planning on making a oil catch can/separator for my 1984 turbo wagon, the inside of my MAF is getting super gummed up with oil. By the way, what is the best way to clean out the MAF? I don't want to cruise out to my garage and start shooting brake parts cleaner all over my MAF! I was just wondering if anyone knows off the top of their head what diameter hose to use for the lines running to the catch can/PCV valve. Thanks, Dan
