Thank you for your wise words. I do know better most of the time. I am familiar with the area and what holes are the deep ones. Im sure the whole area is soaked. And not to mention I have fairly fresh wheel bearings up front so I'll be somewhat cautious.

Just a strut top on your Brat or any EA81 lift will be o.k. for camber, as long as its drilled correctly,BUT, it will be forcing the C.V axles to max length, causing very extreme wear. To lift just the front you do not need a whole lift, obviously... just the front. This will include dropping the engine and transmission cross member equal to the struts. Do abit of research on your type of car,aka an EA81. You may be satisfied by using factory adjustments on the shocks under the spring perch to gain upwards to an inch of height under the front end. Keep in mind, your car was designed with a pretty extreme rake originally, so it will still be noticeable if adjusting within factory limits. Is your car an '81-87? Good luck!

Ive never installed a Pioneer radio before, but I have installed a sleeve mounted radio in my '86 Gl Wagon. I used a Metra brand kit. Maby it can help you, http://www.metraonline.com/part/99-8900

Sounds like fun, I just got done sliding around in the snow myself. But please get to know the difference between 4WD and AWD. Unless your EA81 truly had an AWD gear box. You likely bent a rear trailing arm, maby even snapped the torsion bar,but that would have to be a hard hit. Maby after school go ahead and crawl under your car and take a look for anything bent out of place. Its best to replace bent parts with good used ones. The damaged metal will become weak and will easily bend back.

did they make a baja edition brat?
81EA81 replied to ShagginWagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
She looks like a normal GL Brat to me. No Baja edition to my knowledge. The headlights look from 80-82 EA81 models. The passing lamp probably came from the same car the headlights came from, which was available from 1980-82 with few minor changes in between. Is he saying "$2000 lift"?It looks like a 4" lift. Perhaps with Nissan Pathfinder wheels. It looks alittle beat for the asking price,he should at least clean the trash out before taking pics. Also notice the painted handles, and tailgate emblems on either fender. -
The link is working fine for me. Thankfully As it has for years. Perhaps you can try to access the information from an other computer.

Im sure I can get one turn signal lens from a car local to me and ship it over, perhaps you can post a pic of your tail light too. If we're lucky I should be able to help you out. Just keep in touch. Good luck!

So, I had a weird dream last night that a friend of mine came pulling up in a 96 Subaru Legacy(personally my least liked Subaru). It was slammed to the ground, yellow in color with a big carbon fiber air dam/ lip up front. But the weirdest part was the fact that it had a newer Mustang front clip. It sounds odd. I did my best to quickly throw together a similar image with Paint. But I did happen to dream I had a dark green 2nd gen Brat with sleek black topper with a subtle lip molded in the back. It almost reminded me of the 1st gen bed covers/louvers. I apologize for this post. Ive have a fever so Im not right in the head at the moment.

EA82 Oil Pump Pulley Broken?
81EA81 replied to LiftedSuzuki's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It would be best to remove the ring or replace the pulley.OR even easiest the whole pump. I had a similar situation on my EA82 where the timing belt slipped and broke the ring loose. I tried to pop the ring back on to no avail. I ignored the issue for about a month and all seemed o.k until one day I noticed the car had a small oil drop under her. It turns out the retaining ring eventually wore a hole through the oil pump housing and into an oil passage, causing a mild leak and light lifter tap. Thankfully I managed to find a good used pump for $4.00 so I simply replaced the pump. Here is a pic of the damage. -
The Awesome Older Generation Picture Thread
81EA81 replied to 6 Star's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Here is a few thumbnails from a craigslist add awhile back. Im sure there was an explanation of a rear end collision. So over all the "Truck" was saved. -
I have my EA81 wagon set up like this right as I type. There is only the need to pull one front axle as the power will be transferred to the side with least traction.(the side with no axle). This will put unnecessary stress on the transfer gears in your transmission, It will hold for a bit but I wouldn't recommend relying on it for more then a few quick bouts of fun! The transmission simply isnt designed to take all the force and send it to the rear, considering its base design is front wheel drive. But yes,it is fun! and mostly reversible. This thread should be moved to its corresponding forum

coolant temp sensor as stated by Fox

Good one! This is hard to explain with out getting into too many details. DL EA71 ect.

well. 80-84 wagon=EA81 . 82-87 Brat=EA81 80-89 Hatch=EA81 85-94 wagon= EA82 . Practically All 81-87 Brats are EA81 .make sense? Your Brat is an EA81 Guaranteed! The EA81 is the engine but its commonly used to refer the body type of your Brat

Anyone know about this carb?
81EA81 replied to 82bratdude's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It looks like a rebuilt Hitachi to me. Im sure it will fit an EA81 fine. Do you have carb problems or are you just curious? -
EA81 quad headlight high beam issue
81EA81 replied to Greenley's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My best bet would be the headlight combo switch on your steering column has a short / ground issue. Maby even worn contacts? I had a similar issue with my 86 Brat. I replaced the switch on the column and the problem stopped. It may be wise to wait for a more experienced response. I will try to locate a picture of said switch. -
Skid plates and armor!?
81EA81 replied to Quinny92loyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It should be relatively easy to mount a skid plate seeing as most 4x4 EA cars came with one from the factory. Id bet someone would be willing to ship one out to you If you really need it. Ive seen skid plates made from thin aluminum sheet(street signs). They are not very strong, but will provide more protection then nothing Another material I want to try out is HDPE, aka High Density Polyethylene. Simply put, strong chemical resistant plastic.Best bet for skid plate material would be a cutting board Ive attached pics of the rear differential skid plate, Stock EA81 and EA82 oil pan skid plates. and an aluminum plate. Good luck!! -
That is a good question I was just thinking myself. I am about to test fit an extra used bushing placed on the control arm side of the strut rod. perhaps there is only room for the washer? One would think it would give it slight positive caster?I know too little about suspension, for now. Thank you

YES! I finally had the time to bolt up some blocks Ive been slowly but surly making. Ive spent many late nights cutting, drilling, hammering and test fitting and at last it shall pay off. So far Ive spent about $55 on steel, bits, hacksaw blades and cut off wheels.Though I sacrificed one makeshift drill press in the process. All the hardware is from two 1st Gen Legacys and an EA81 hatch. So its all Metric all the way! I still need to bolt up the exhaust and hook up the 4wd linkage. Of course I will need new rubber, but I need to work over the little details first. Thank you.

I have always wanted to get a pair of what some call euro lights. They will fit where your stock sealed bulb goes yet it allows use of H4 bulbs for greater visibility. You should not need to upgrade your alternator unless you are drawing an extreme amount of amperage. Good luck! Happy Holidays!

'86 GL 4WD 5-speed Wagon: What Struts?
81EA81 replied to Subarule's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I can offer little help seeing as somehow Ive never had to replace any suspension components on my EA82. But I know KYB is a popular replacement brand. It is more performance oriented. Monroe is another brand that comes across as an economic "stock" replacement. To my knowledge Gas shocks can withstand more abuse and generally have a longer life compared to just Air and oil. For daily driving situations it shouldn't make much a difference. Someone please correct me if Im wrong. The front is a MacPherson Strut design. As the rear is more of a coil over shock style. Good luck. -
steering wheel wobble ideas..?
81EA81 replied to l75eya's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Your tires may be out of round/balance.Or even unseen tread separation. You can try rotating the fronts to the rear. Happy Christmas and good luck!
