  1. Phizinza, I am embarrassed to admit that when I was re-threading the exhaust stud holes in Elvis (my old EA81 dual port motor) I drilled too far with a pilot hole, Right into the oil jacket! I suspect that this area has a heat crack in the alloy or someone has been too enthusiastic with the drill. Drip drip drip, the buggar kept dripping until I drained all the oil (when hot), blew compressed air up the hole and then epoxied the stud in. JB weld is excellent, Cold Weld is good too. PM me on the BYB if you run into trouble. Best of luck. Matt (Tasbrat)
  2. Bella, i have an EJ22 injected motor, but this is all bypassed. The gas is mixed in the throttle body, the injectors are not connected. Yes it makes awesome torque down low in the revs, but it came from a Legacy wagon and is now pushing 2/3 of the weight. Yes it needed a different coil. Yes its worth it for the power and simplicity. With our fuel and gas prices. ($1.35 litre 96 RON and $.56 litre LPG) $1 Aust = $.72 US. I can't see the price of oil coming down soon, and we don't import LPG into Australia, we produce our own. LPG conversion businesses are very busy . Good luck.
  3. I have been converted about a month, it uses 15% more gas than fuel but it is under 1/2 the price of fuel. I have a 100 litre tank in the Wonder Brumby and it gets me 750 kms for $56 Australian bucks. It is available at about 1 in 4 fuel stations here. I highly reccomend it. Low emissions, simple engine managment, gas prices are not directly affected by crude oil prices either. And its got a healthy octane rating too.... Good luck. Matt
  4. Years ago I was commercially diving and we ran sections of cutting boards instead of rollers on our boat trailer. We slammed 1500 Kilograms of boat and 1200-1400 Kilograms of sea urchins into these day after day after day. Still servicable when we sold the boat after 4 1/2 years. Thats gotta be 6000 lbs and with a sharpish edge hitting it too. I would say if they were well secured, these would work well. Use the thick ones though (3/4").
  5. Go for it Pat, I have a full time, dual range RX box in my Brumby, you need different front CV inners on your shafts, a slight re position of the gear shifter lever. Everything else is the same layout as a normal L series 5 speed. It makes a hell of a difference, I would reccomend it highly. You rule wet roads, dropping to low range on the fly suprises a few people too. PM me if you need details, Matt
  6. If you have stripped the head of the bolt, weld another bolt onto it in the shape of a big T bar. Give it some squirt and some heat, may be a little 'love tap' and gently twist it out. Good luck.
  7. Some extra photos for you guys until I do a full write up. Starboard side of the engine bay after LPG kit fitted. Portside of the engine bay. New headers snaking back. New fender flares. New distributor ( I squeezed a camera in there ) From above More info coming when I get a chance. Cheers, Matt
  8. The distributor came from a 4 cyl Subaru called a Fiori (in Aust), what that model is in the States I don't know. At the moment it is a points system, works fine but I am looking for an electronic one in Japan. The Fiori Disty took some fabrication work from Eddie to mount and fit. Its not a direct drop in. The blank needs to be machined out of the back of the head and the two gears meshed together. There needs to be a plate made to allow timing adjustment. I have 4 plugs leads, a coil lead and a wire to the coil. And three senders. Wiring for dummies. A spare set of points and a rotor button in the tool bag, a can of WD40 and I am all good to go. Photos this afternoon.
  9. No carb LPGSB, The mixer went right on to the throttle body, I will have to check the size- about 45-50mm roughly. The combo rocks, good for up to 140kw apparently. Very pleased with the result. Steve from Rising Sun in Adelaide did the disty mods and adapter. Good operators.
  10. Howdy Guys and Gals, Conversion complete and time to post results. This is what went in: 1994 EJ 22 (90,000kms) Converted to distributor ignition (Subaru Fiori) Dedicated LPG system (100ltr tank) EJ-EA adapter plate, RX Clutch kit, New coil, Rebuilt radiator, Custom engine mounts, Custom headers into 2 1/4 " system. Two bags full of $$$$$ aaaaaand about 40 hours. ish. It all went into The Wonder Brumby which already has RX Turbo running gear and brakes. Only static timed and not final tuned yet, but what a great result. Awesome torque, quick and nimble rev response, Cheap as dirt to run (LPG or propane costs $.55 per litre as opposed to $1.32 for 96 RON). No Computor, No crazy wiring issues. No framerail cuts. Hanging on the chain, Groover supervising Adapter and clutch In she goes- it was close Headers and gas kit photos are coming.
  11. the heads are different, matched to the cam. Valve placement is reversed compared to a standard EA81. Normal heads will work fine, I would suggest some porting and exhaust mods to get the air flowing a little better. Heavy valve springs as well. Do they make a big differnce? - the tach needle flys up, wire the secondarys to open manually and you have some real fun. Go for it!
  12. Narrower, yes as some are SOHC, some are DOHC and as wide as an EJ20. Depends on the model and year. Early Liberties/Legacies had SOHCs. Some nutter must have turbo'd one. Good luck.
  13. 1/2 inch is not quite 12mm Ballitch. I would skim the extra 1/2 mm off at the end with a belt sander or thicknesser. Too much to go wrong by just 'rounding up to 1/2 inch'. These are METRIC cars dude! Get with it, the rest of the world has.
  14. Noah and Josh, Good sensible advice from two people with the same rig. I LOVE THIS PLACE I will bend a set up then. Thanks guys.
  15. G'day all, Do headers (extractors) make a signifiacant difference to a pretty stock EJ22? I have a set of factory engine pipes if I want them, or I can get a set bent up to exactly fit the Wonder Brumby's existing 2 1/4 inch system.... I want this thing torquey rather than a rev orientated tune. Will a factory set fit under a Brumby's cross member? Gracias. Matt
  16. Machine out the blank in one head and install a sherpa (justy) distrubuter. forget the whole electronics nightmare.
  17. Thanks Qman, Why don't you like them? Extra stress on bearings? Matt
  18. G'day guys, I have put EA82 steering and control arms in the Wonder Brumby, subsequently my rear track is 3" narrower than my front. I was thinking of putting 1.5" spacers on each rear hub to correct it. http://www.truckn-store.com/product.asp?source=&ID=89118&returnURL=%2Fproduct%5Flist%2Easp%3Fid%3D1482 Our 4 stud pattern is 4 x 100mm, am I correct? Thanks, Matt
  19. RedDevil, well done with what you have created, I read with interest the nasoic thread. I hope you get it running again. The treatment you have given that motor was sure a good test - harsher than normal conditions thats for sure. The original question here was for EA or ER engines though. LPsuperchargedbrumby has had it real close to reliable with mild boost, I beleive the turbo pistons will allow a little more boost without "grenading". Hopefully. The pulleys I have are geared to run 8 psi, with gas I am looking for 35% more power at least. RELIABLY. 1/4 mile times are not critical to me, smooth delivery of power is. Cheers Matt
  20. As both of the above described engines are dead, I would look at a more reliable formula. There is a guru in Adelaide Australia by the name of Steve, goes by Steve-rising-sun on the ausubaru board. He had built a couple of supercharged EA motors. They are still running. He willl have another built and running soon, MINE. Propane (or LPG here in Oz) is the key- its all about running them on gas to prevent detonation. When EA81's are so cheap and the blowers are around $250 on ebay, why bloody not!
  21. Guys, its a boat! You tell me how to push dyno rollers with jet drive and I will try!! Fuel + spark + air, they are the variables. Twin 1 3/4" SU's - TDO4, Propane, EA82T Pistons, Copper head gaskets, Full race grind cam, Expected lifespan - between 50 and 100 hours. I will accept bets.
  22. please keep us posted on this one, I am looking to do the same. Thanks, Matt
  23. G'day Jack, I am trying to get a very slow planing speed rather than a big top speed, the boat is designed for upriver assaults. I have weighed all the bits and it all comes to just under the 400kg mark, with around 170hp pushing it. No Photos until its finished!
  24. I have a 13 foot jet boat under construction AluminIum hull with full Skid plate , Hybrid ea81 with twin SU's sucking through a TD04 @ 8 pounds of boost, MOO HA HA HA single stage hamilton jet, Brumby dash & shifter (fwd & reverse bucket controls), Lots of grab handles Cmon Summer! (Way down south, as far south as you want to go anyway!)
  25. If you are running the EA81 clutch and flywheel, you need to put in 3mm spacers (washers) between the starter motor and the flywheel housing. Otherwise it rubs, LOUDLY! Hope this helps. There is a volume button on the stereo that will help as well. (humour)
