Ok guys, im considering just running some bilstines or carraras in parallel with the stock struts....bow best to do this in my performance application??? ive not looked or fathomed this yet, so lets all get some ideas going!!! This thing it bouncy at all....gotta fix that.
-
Since you are doing all of that to the engine....my first bit of advice will save you HOURS of aggrivation and make life easy.... REMOVE THE ENGINE FROM THE SUBARU RX, and place it on a good engine stand that you can rotate the engine. Invest in a speed handle/wrench. Then, have at it! Ive dont many many EA82T engines like what you are gettin' ready to do.
-
Now, again, try it your self, I know that I have NO CLUE what Delta cams do to an EA81.....but I know that on an EA82T, the small cams kick butt. On the EA82 SPFI, you dont notice any difference at all, except in the exhaust note, until you get up to about 5500, then it starts to pull harder. But again, the exhaust note is meaner thru the whole rev range.

Mean=677-260 Grind (the cams I first got) Meanest=the 272 (IIRC?) Grind (the cams I an GOING to get....)

The disputed weight factor....and some lowering stuff....
WJM replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think the 2300 is dry...no coolant, oil, fuel, etc.... Shane...i think those extra 14 lbs are from the stuff that I added to the car that I was too lazy to get out...loose change, CDs and cases, and batteries....and a mojor weight...that 4.1 surround system wiring, power adapert and crap is still in there. Then again, I dont really think the Single range 4wd vs FT4wd wight should be different really...maybe a tad...like, 5 lbs maybe....Eh, Im happy with it. Its about 200 lbs lighter than I expected. According to the math, I ONLY need 195 HP at the crank to be as fast as a stock WRX...Or...137.5 HP at the wheels to do it....by the conversion from Dyno day...thats 196.5 Crank HP. So, Im shotting for the 200 HP mark. Delta Cams, here I come, again! -
this week at ol Jim Wood's, 4wd swapping and the XT

Ladies and gentlemen, the adventures of Miles Fox! Great stuff Miles, keep the info comming! And, most importantly...stay out of trouble! :-p -
Delta Cams were good to me. I tihnk I talked ot Scott...i dont remember. The small profile will not do well in SPFI. It will be almost like running stock cams, but you will notice that the high end is free'er beatheing, the 6000+ range. The big one should be suitable for the N/A stuff to gain power.....i dont know of its streetability tho. The small on is definatly streetable. For turbo, you WILL NOTICE gains from 3000 to when you let out of it. Ive driven one to 7500 and it still wanted to go more. I am going to get the big cams for my GL-10 sometime soon....muhuhuhahah!

Oh I did not have the spare or sparetire bar/turbo heatsheild thing on the car either. I've drivin and XT...its better than the 4wd's stock, but not an RX. I think that on the same tires, all the 2wd's and XTs handle the same. XT6 i dont know....I do know that the DL with the BFG's on it handled very very suprisingly well with it being bone stock. My GL-10 had more positive camber than the Dl for some reason, so it did not handle as well stock as the DL....The RX does really well even tho its got a good bit of positive. Anyhow, The XT's will be pretty different to setup like my wagon. The front struts are shorter, and the rears are taller. At some point, I should take delivery of a 1986 XT turbo 5spd 2wd....I know that stock XT struts on a Leone will lower it a little it below the stock 2wd stuff, and lower alot past the 4wd stuff. Well, long running test today, about 30 miles of driving today. -

No toe corrections yet. Tomorrow, we will use proven race car methods to check the toe, front and rear. With the stock RX stuff on it, its was actually toed in on the front. Rear, i dont know. -
What if...you could, in 1986, take delivery of a GL-10 wagon....that was converted from 3AT 2WD, to 5SPD Full Time 4WD....with low stiff springs...and about 7 gallons of 93 octane fuel in it...and some other little goodies...well, you'd have MY GL-10 wagon!! Oh its TURBO too. :-p 2664 LBS. Where? Clay Hair Motorsports. When? About 1 hr ago. Why? Cuz I had the shop ALL TO MYSELF! Many evil things transpired.....muhuhhahahah!! So here it is! Pics too.... LF: 765 RF: 749 LR: 598 RR: 552 Front Split: 16, Rear: 46. Left side: 51.1%, Right: 43.1%, Cross: 50.5% Total: 2664 LBS No driver, no tools, no extras (mostly...some things, like a few CDs, some change, and some wiring left over from a sound system *power bar, power interverter and adapter, prolly about 10 lbs total* were left in, due to it taking so long to totally remove those items....I got lazy after I got the other stuff out. lol. Again, had about 7 gallons of fuel in....2 bars on the digi dash indicator... And....i fixed the spring perches, and installed the taller XT 2wd Turbo 5spd 1985 spec rear struts. Pics!!!!!!!!!!! This is what the strut is SUPPOSED to look like.... http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/DSCF2289.JPG NOT this.... http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/DSCF2290.JPG http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/DSCF2291.JPG Hey, look, Clay's Winning car! http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/DSCF2292.JPG 2WD GL-10 stock struts with short stiff spring and MRT Rally Camber/Caster plates beside a bone stock original RX strut assy. So, the 4WD's are longer... http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/DSCF2293.JPG Now, the spring perches re-enforced and repaired.... http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/DSCF2295.JPG http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/DSCF2297.JPG Strut assys in.... http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/DSCF2298.JPG http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/DSCF2299.JPG On the ground!! http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/Dscf2304.jpg http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/Dscf2305.jpg http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/Dscf2306.jpg My $6 axle back exhaust....its 2.5 inches....but that 2.5 inches also contenues to the second cat... http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/DSCF2308.JPG http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/DSCF2309.JPG *upside down! Whoa....dizzy now.... * Wow...the GL-10 is LIGHTER than an RX..... http://www.pixiad.com/pix/WJM/Dscf2314.jpg Ive not been able to see how it handles....if its the same or different, since it IS riding about 1.5 - 2 inches higher in the back, and about 1/2 - 3/4 more in the front.....more tests tomorrow.

If they did then the 3 RX's i had, they were removed. Anyhow, i think that....the gov. has put these special devices in odd places to see how other electrical things react to certin wave lenghths....or something like that. I know that my parents 95 Dodge caravan....we were somewhere near the coast, near an air force base...when all of a sudden, all the bells and whistles went off, the gauge cluster went crazy, and the wipers were all over the place....the engine also was acting up....since then, the check engine light is strange, and the trans ECU never worked right...it also still does strange things at times. Key word(s): "Air Force Base" That = Government.

4 corners of coil overs....Bilstein's too...
WJM replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I thought it was AGX cuz you said gas adjusts....lol. Yes, id love so see Syles suspension naked! Ive got some stuff from boxer4racing.com for my suspension for the wagon today...so I wont be doing any coilover work for a while. -
Dealer. As a note, its not common to find the phase 1/DOHC EJ25's that has a problem. My dad's outback, 1996, with the Phase 1 DOHC engine has surpassed 180,000+ miles, NO leaks, and never had any Head gasket issues. The engine has only been open for T-belt and maybe some seals for the cams and front main.

Thanks to Dale Teauge of boxer4racing.com, I now have the suspension components to get the GL-10 low and stiff again! Oh, and to go kick butt in the corners! Hey...autocross this weekend!! Also have a nice deca, about 24 inches long, and 1 inch high, that says "BOXER4RACING.COM"....hmm....where to put it....... Anyhow, got some angle iron to re-enforce the struts, pics to come of the carnage before I take it apart and fix it...and the pics of progress and of the finnished product.

Use OE, read SUBARU DEALER, head gaskets. its the only way to go. Or PM about what i did with the NAPA gaskets.

reverse light wiring, 5spd conversion, vice versa
WJM replied to MilesFox's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I simply wired in the rev. switch to the rev light wires from the 3at shifter harness. that should be listed in the haynes manual...thats how i found it. -
4 corners of coil overs....Bilstein's too...
WJM replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
where did you get the AGX's from? I could not find them lsited for anything subaru? -
Miles, you number are bass akward. Gold is 1361, silver is 21361.

Ok...i might have a serious plan for a full coilover suspension for the EA82 chassis....the Gen3, the Leone's, the 85-94 'A' Chassis.....XT too. But NOT XT6...unless its the rear. ive got 4 free and in good condition Carrera dampers....but, the more common Bilstein dampers are used on the same application. But I cant get those w/the perches and collars and locking rings....these Carreras were cast offs, to be replaced with the Bilsteins.....anyhow, the solution for the rear is pretty much a peice of cake....the front gets tricky. The body is smaller than the stock strut....and the rod is also way smaller, so ive got to use some sort of spacer on the front to get things right....but, thats just the first idea. The front is going to wait until I get the rear figured out...since it should not take so long. Pics to come as I get progress started....really, I am wondering how much interest I would have in this project...note that this will not work on the front for XT6, or 5 lug converted A chassis....but it will still work on the rear.
-
DO NOT GET FRAM! NO FRAM! STAY AWAY FROM: FRAM NAPA can get the correct items, and WIX makes them. Dealer is also the same quality, but at OE spec, and is around the same price. DO NOT BUY FRAM. FRAM=EVIL, CHEAP, RUIN ENGINE!

Lookie what I found abandoned at a local gas station..

Dey is a carb-o-rator under der thing...no tubo on dat one. -
Umm....blank post. What year? What engine? what fuel system? auto or manual? 2wd or 4wd? Probably the EGR or evap solenoid switch thingy.

Get a complete donor car that was already a turbo.
