not your average loyale trans question
WJM replied to justyfied's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Maybe 2nd gear is gone, and somehow the trans know that, and is smart enough to not go to it. I had a friend with a gen 2 integra, and it only had 1st and 3rd...it would not go into 2nd or 4th for any reason, even if you tried to make it go into those gears. -
If you email Pleiades, he can get you one for around $6, and it is the OE one from the dealer. I know the dealer has one, cuz he tried ot sell it to me...and I am going to get it unless you beat me to it! LOL

struts are the same, spring rates are different. If I can find the sus.jpg, i should beable to see that the rates are bigger with the 4wd. The only differences I could see with the 2wd vs 4wd rear...is again, spring rates. Although...the wagons always have the higher rate. Here it is: Ok, looks like there not a difference between 2wd and 4wd...except for the RX. Hm...i do remember that the RX strut and the GL-10 strut were the same dimensions......the GL-10 had the original 2wd struts, and ofcourse, the RX has 4wd stuff.

Dont hit any cones. Ive not hit any yet in competition. So far ive met my goals!

I know that I ran bosch plats for a good while...the engine didnt seem to run as well as with the OEM specified NGK's. Ive tried some colder and hotter NGKs.....but the best NGK's ive used are the latest ones i found....some racing specified NGKs. But at $9 a peice ($18 retail tho, as I got employee sicount) its not a plug to just buy and try....the NGK V Power (NAPA # 6261) were by far the best for any EAxx application, and affordable at around $2 a peice for a walk in customer.

Yep, those are subaru enkies.

I *HATE* hot and humid air! So does my...

Luckily I dont have an issue with engine coolant temps.....ive got the big core rad and running stright water right now....need to use some Valvoline super coolant stuff... -
http://www.coximport.com/kyb/s.html Yep....we can get them. I dont know the avalibility, but the prices are better than the same parts from NAPA....and abviously, KYB is going to be WAY better than some NAPA stuff.

[ranting] ...non Intercooled GL-10!!! Today at WJM Rallye Sport....the GL-10 broke its turbo inlet pipe! So...had to find another...this one ofcourse does not have the BOV inlet on it...so my BOV is venting to the atmos and cause driveability issues! But makes a cool sound and people turn heads...then lauge. SO then....i fill her up...15.5 gallons.... 332 miles...thats about 21.4 MPGs. WTF???? I was getting 26-28!!! All of a sudden...keeps getting less and less....ofcourse, it keeps getting hotter and hotter and i keep having to use more and more pedal to get going and maintain speed. Anyone else experience this in hot humid weather behavior??????? And then...im really really missing my low and stiff ultra grippy suspension....waiting one some $ to get some WRX bumpstops and figure out how to increase the dampening rate of the stock struts....autocross comming up on the 27th...of THIS month...gotta work fast!! I am also trying to come up with more ideas on my intake plans...nothing is really planning out...and this WRX TMIC is just eating me alive wanting me to install it...but alas, no $ to support a proper install....and that broken spring perch on that strut too.... If that thing is blue, I want the front grille peice please! Personally...id save anything and everything that could possibly be used to replace parts on the 91....that means everything but the coupe specific stuff.
-
Would it be possible to get two close up pics...maybe....please....?
-
Thats what I was aobut to ask....looks like some cutting is involved...I just went outside and test fited the side sections...they will be needed to be modified for sure.

Rear Side, or the rear center?

To everyone who has taken and RX body kit and fitted it to a SUBARU that was not orginally equipped with one..... I am about to undertake the project myself....fitting the RX kit to my GL-10. I'm NOT going to chage fenders...and i see that some holes must be drilles....Other than that....what are the other things nessisary or other issues involved? Id like to be ahead of the game before I start on it....

Any use for cracked EA82T heads?
WJM replied to oobnuker's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If no one else wants the items you wish to clear out...id like to have them....I am wondering how much the shipping would cost tho....as that is what would holdme back....seeing as i am broke and no job now. :-\ -
EASY to gut the second cat....long metal rod and a hammer...might need some long needle nose plyers for the mesh stuff.....the first cat...need to hack the 'neck' off neatly right at the cannister....easy'est to use a long llong drill bit and drill it out....or can use the punch out trick as used for the second cat. Now the hard part....you have to WELD the neck back onto the cannister JUST RIGHT or the DP wont bolt back up right....luckily Ive done this several times so I can do it blind folded almost...and it helps that I have a welder at home now.

Inexpencive parts for a 1988 Subaru Gl
WJM replied to danman9y's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ive got some parts...... -
yeah...ive found out over the course of THREE (3) crossover pipes...that when they break....power is no more.

Ok....so back in the day before my 5SPD and 4WD conversion...i was running the stock EA82T with a 3AT....i was getting 22 mpgs driving somewhat normally.... Cut the intake, hack the muffler....gut the cats and run nothing but the DP....24 MPG's doing whatever I want...mostly WOT tho. Skip on to the 5spd conversion and the 9.5:1 engine, and a similar exhaust....no cats once again...29 MPGs....increase mostly due to 5spd. Now...on to dragging some 4wd components....28 mpgs. Now...onto FT4WD!! 28 MPGs on any given day. Now...onto an emissions legal exhaust...both cats and a muffler. Back down to 24.... Now...no muffler! 26! Now....back to exhaust before emissions....back to 28. Ok...so the 9.5:1 engine gave up....back to 7.7:1 and cat'ed exhaust, but no muffler....to 26-28 MPGs. Now...onto cats and stock style muffler....22! WHOA. No way. Also, going from open back to OE stuff....throttle responce down, turbo lag comes back...and most notibly, the MPGs decrease. Which is a BIG deal considering the price of gas and I ALWAYS run 93 octane in it...more on that later. So...gutted the DP again, and put a DP-back large diameter with gutted cat on. Ahhhh.....there we go, my noise is back, so is the power. Now lets see about the MPGs since Ive not run a size of pipe more than stock. The DP i have has been redone from the cat back to the second cat...and from the 2nd cat back, its 2.25 inch exhaust. Lets see what happens on the I-state now. Now onto fuel..... I ran 87 for a tank ful since i am doing ALOT of driving cuz I have to move back into my parents place....nope, never do that again...the fuel that is. Power was DOWN DOWN DOWN...even after palying with timing again. The engine pulled, but was WEAK!! Could barely get the rest of the wagon going to pass someone...DOWNHILL!! Ok...93 back in...WOW...what a HUGE difference. PULLS like mad now, especially with the stright thru exhaust restored. So...note to all turbo people...stright pipe TBE and 93 (or highest octane possible in your area) fuel and you'll get some MPGs and HPs over stock for sure.

Ummm...so important that you wont eat until you find some.
-
thats a good point........
-
Shadow and I were chatting...and he brought up fuel temps....so to put the probe out for yet another discussion on EA82T performance.....does fuel temperature really matter? I would think that the cooler the fuel, the better....just like the air entering the engine....
-
Yeah, we dont know who you are...so until we find out...you've got a clean slate!
-
Gotta run RACE FUEL on the 9.5:1 to get any sort of real high end drivability out of it. I know....i ran one for 24k miles as a daily driver....past 4500 RPMs would just start detonating on the best pump gas. If you start with the EA82T (turbo version) you will have less problems going to TT setup...or even the non turbo MPFI engine....its turbo ready.

OK, so I will jsut shoot for -50 F.....LOL What to use as a coolant............??
