90 Loyale AWD Auto Trans Question
WJM replied to dave833's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
some one should know this....I'd run some trans cleaner thru it and see what happens. Those auto FT4WD trans are rare. -

There are two ways to make a "super-roo form the 80's" 1. Find a few kick rump roast 80's cars...XT6, RX, Turbo XT, and GL-10 turbos, and 4wd models...and take the best parts from them, and slap them onto your car. example: My GL-10 has the XT serpintine belt system. XT turbo 4wd rear suspension, and XT6 FT4WD 20MM rear swaybar. (it did have a front 20MM sway bar form an XT6, but i removed it) I also have the XT6 FT4WD 5spd tranns sitting around waiting to be installed into my GL-10. Oh, btw: my GL-10 used to be an auto. Then...find some alloys, slap them on there...RX suspension...the list goes on. 2. Make your own parts. -
High RPMs dont hurt suby motors. Even the EJ motors. ON the same trip, about 300 some miles, average speed was about 80-80 MPH, for about 4-5 hrs stright. the first time was in a 96 EJ25 DOHC powered outback...no problems. the second time was in my GL-10 turbo wagon with its 9.5:1 turbo motor...RPMs were around 3600 to 4000. No problems. I dont remember RPMs on outback...i think it was around 3400.

its under just about everything in the back of the maifold. Its right beside the turbo, under some valve thingy with lots o lines on it, and its got a 2 wire connector....does that help? Skip's gota pic...

any word on the wheels? Ive been working with some ppl too...all have siad "No, we dont do custom" or it costs too much for a new pattern" So...how is your end?

I'd be checking for small vac leaks, and make sure the IAC is sealed up. My GL-10 had a somewhat similar problem...somewhat. Check the coolant sensor connector, and the IAC connector...another 2 cents worth.

Ok, its dropped. 2.5 inches in front, and only 1.5 inches in back....but I like it like that. Stock XT turbo 2wd struts and springs dropped directy on the front, strut tower tops and all. On the back, the XT shocks where 1.5 inches TALLER than the RX ones, But the XT springs are shorter by a little and have less spring rate...so I dropped them on the RX shocks. BAM. There we go. Pics to come soon....like today I hope. -
it was only a 3spd in my GL-10...in the sig.

Well...hate to bust some bubbles here...but ther eis a bridge about .2 miles from where i pull onto the main road to go to work...when I had an auto in the GL-10, I made it to 70 when i first hit the bridge....now, I can only manage 63. Maybe thats the engine, idk. But, before the mods i made to the stock turbo motor, the EA82 and before auto are indeed slow, slugglish and rather sloppy. The auto in my dads outback is freaking awesome tho. Very responsive, tough, and quick to shift. I LOVED that auto. Manuals are better for anything sporty.

I got the desired drop on the front by directy swapping the RX spring/strut out and installing ones from a 1985 XT Turbo 2WD Manual. BUT...when I swapped out on the rear...it was another 1.5 inches high. It looked rediculous...so, after some calculation...I will take those rear springs and cut them tomorrow...4 coils. Yeah, its a lot, but hey, Ive got extras. Pics to come when I get the rear down. The camber is now to ZERO on the front. -

Yeah....pics...what I will do is throw in the XT springs with those struts (since they are already on there), and estimate how much I will cut off of those...then cut. And go from there...combining springs and strut combinations. -

the diff cant go up, or it would be in the gas tank. And...i dont care if the axels level out, I need new ones anyhow. and, why would that matter? As far as the diff scraping...im not worried about it...i'll make a protector if its a problem And...I hope it would change the front geometry by giving me some CAMBER of the negative kind.... Gotta love these icons! :moon: LOL Ok, anyone else? -
