Find a 2wd XT turbo. Directly bolt on the front struts/springs. 2~2.5 inches lower. I've done this. For the rear, use the XT springs on the RX shocks. Thats about 1.5 inches. edit: Geez, look at how the RX's have the beefed up suspension! No wonder my spripped RX handles just so right going really fast down any road!

prolong is a sham too. a test was done. newly rebuild V-6s, proper break in, and after that, one got the prolong treatement, to the letter. After a few oilchages with prolong in one, and the other with out, both cars were drained of oil, just like in the infomercial, and driven around a hot downtown area, with the A/C on. In the infomercial, the prolong car went for hours like this. In REAL LIFE, both cars engine's failed at the same time...minutes after the oil was drained.

Thats true...I get 27-29 mpg reguarly with my GL-10.

Random thoughts for off road mods

No thermostat. I wonder how I could install one....I would love to find an original factory adapter.
-
Alrighty then..... Ive got everything to install an oil cooler on my RX...remote base and pump adapter....lines are easy, and I have many choices for cooler cores....so, should I install it? And where should I mount it? Let the opinions fly!

Excellent information!! I run synth. in my mower too. Id run synth in my computer....but there is no where to put it! From my experience, every single engine I have torn down has been one out of cars that were driven daily, and taken care of like "normal" Which means, the maintinace sched. varied as was not regualar....and the innards where not too good looking. And I ve seen what inproper oil can do to and engine, and what not changing can do. I've never torn and engine down that ran on synthetic. There is probably a reason for that...hmm...higher level of pretection maybe? Therefore no engine failure! All I know is that synths rock, and I will use Mobil 1 for a long time to come...unless I cna get my hand on some AMSOIL.
-
for experimentation's sake. the NAPA I work for does not offer Redline, or Mobil gear oils....and i dont even know if we can get AMSOIL easily.
-
Anyone........?

I did the same mod on my GL-10 as Flow did on his wagon...but mine is alot shorter and has NO boot at all. Its great. BUT....the RX shifter from the factory is alot better for me, its right there beside the wheel, and its throw is not too big or small. With the way I have the seat and wheel, I feel like I am in a WRC car. I dont have to reach as far as in my GL-10 to shift, the RX is jsut right there. Oh, and the boot is still on the RX. When I swap the GL-10 to FT4WD, I am going to re-install a completely stock shifter and boot. Then I will experiment with different shifters on the RX.

Well...I just poured in some Valvoline Racing oil (only thing I had, plus it was freed from a winston cup team) into my RX when I got it, from what I could telly, everything on the engine is still original, from 133,000 miles ago. No leak. I do get some HVLA clatter sometimes, but it comes and goes...and I suspect the engine was very dirty inside. The whole car was not maintained very well. It still had original Timing Belts on it. I have used Mobil 1 in my GL-10 since I put that 9.5:1 turbo enigne in, that was 15k miles ago. No leaks. So who is better? Mobil 1 or Castrol? Redline vs AMSOIL? and what about the royal purple stuff?
-
i guess i'll try it in my GL-10's 2wd 5speed, since it will be comming out soon anyways.

Will a 84 and older steering wheel fit on an 85-94 EA82 car? I am reasearching steering wheel hub adapters from MOMO and Grant. I can get steering wheels cheap from grant...no hub adapter is aval from grant for the EA82 cars, but they offer one for EA81 and older. MOMO offers both, but its really high....and not really avalible...hard to find... So what steering wheels fit what? and what other car maker has a hub the same spline count as the EA82 subes?
-
Ok, I am debating this...now its itme to debabte this here! What would happen if I used 10w-30 or 15w-50 mobil 1 fully synthetic motor oil in one of my 5spd transmissions...?? Ive got an XT turbo 2wd 5spd, an XT6 FT4WD 5spd, and the 87+ RX 5spd D/R.

Yes. Sometimes these engines run 8 psi. My GL-10 does sometimes...depending on the day of the week. lol -

Not really....it wont read vac. But if you dont care about that, then you can do that. It will not read what the actual intake presure is tho...My guage is "reading" past the throttle plate. Id like to have another one, one to read before the thro. plate. -
LSD? am I halucinating or what???

I believe point C goes to the AAV, for cold starts. It does on my GL-10, and RX. -
better breathing turbo with catless downpipe
WJM replied to Skip's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if you look closely in the pics, you can see there there is a spot for it, right where it would be in the stock location. So Skip, how is the working commin on the X pipe? -
Sounds like it. Too bad I dont have an extra one. TO the yards for you I guess...or NAPA.

Dude, that is the KNOCK sensor, that goes into the block. its a ONE wire sensor. AC current it creates for the computer to retard the timing. You are close tho. Over beside it, on the intake manifold, with a TWO wire connector, is the coolant sensor for the computer. It has a rectagular connector. The coolant temp sensor is more towards the passenger/right side of the engine, again, on the intake manifold...the lower part of it.
