The one that looks liek it jsut rolled off the show room floor will be like the GL-10, a realiable daily driver. The GL-10 and RX will back each other up, and both will be semi-show cars. Since both are in IMMACULATE condition... The RX i have now is...its had a hard life. Totaled in 93, and since then, been pulled out of a junkyard more than once. The frame is bent, the car sits wrong, one side is higher than the other, rust here and there, the paint job not great, and all kinds of little things here and there. Its gonna get stripped down even more, and hopefully straightened, and seal welded. Full FIA cage, and so on.......... Can you say: "Leone RX WRC"

Piston slap is when the piston to cyl wall clearance is a tad too much...and the piston tends to "wiggle" in the cyl. EJ25's seem to be bad for this, but I never noticed, and it never seemed to be bad. Sometimes, pistons are like that on purpose, they slap when they are cold, but whem they are warmed up, they dont slap, they expland due to heat, and have proper clearance.

I wonder how long break-in really is for a new subaru engine...??? I use Mobil 1 synth 10w30 in my GL-10. The RX will have that soon.

Id pay 500-600 for one...even if its engine was blown! I almost did...but it turned the engine was fine. Its the one i ahve now. Im keeping my eye on a second one for 600, its in PERFECT condition for $600.

No, I got the XT6 trans with a regular XT Turbo. Separately ofcourse. The XT6 FT4WD trans will bolt up to the 2wd 5spd corssmember if you install the 2wd 5spd mounts onto the XT6 FT4WD trans. -

once you get all the right parts and a good shop, its not hard. Im working on a concreate pad...with a jack and hand tools. Thats it. It took me, in a fully equipped shop, 2hrs to completely change the rear suspension over form 2wd to 4wd. So far, w/out all that, its taken me almost 3 days to install a tranmission. But that part is over now. At least I didnt have ot take the engine out! 1 hr in a shop...here? who know. No engine lift. Bad news. -

I took the 2wd mounts and crossmember, and used them on the XT6 trans. Bolts right up perfectly. Its in. Now I ahve to mod some shifter stuff. The shifter package I got was for a D/R. It was in a wreck and bent up. SO i had to bend some stuff, and I'll have to shave some metal, and take one mount and use it on something else....blah blah. Better explanation to come when i get it right. After that, I am not going to weld, like Miles did, but rather drill and bolt up the center driveshaft supports. Then she's done after I install a new clutch cable. -

Ok, item 1: Problem. I dont have the front and rear sections, only the center section and the mount on it. Item 2: This area is also on the 2wd XT turbo trans. Item 3: The stock mount on the XT turbo trans. I pulled out the Legacy crossmember...its WAY to big. And the center section of the XT6 FT4WD wont bolt up to the legacy xmember, and no way in heck will it bolt up to the EA82 chassis. So, I see problems, and i see a solution, can anyone else see it? -
and decided its time to start to finish the FT4WD conversion on my GL-10. Its going to get put in the air, and the trans is gonna come out...like, NOW. Then to go in, an XT6 FT4WD trans. After that, the driveshaft center bearing support...and a new exhaust. So, maybe I'll have a write-up on this... So far its been pretty simple. Find 4wd rear suspension. replace 2wd with 4wd stuff(bolt off, bolt on). Drill 4 holes for rear diff support, bolt stuff on. Find 4wd trans and matching diff. Install trans. This get more complicated with the XT6 trans, I think. But then again, I've got a legacy x memeber I will try on for size. The 5spd conversion was a little more complicated than this.

Intake, exhaust, clean out the fuel system and run sythetic oil. Thats a start. For EA82, stock brakes have always done well for me, and I drive the RX like its a freakin WRC car. I've never increased the boost. I'd love to put a fully aftermarket computer system on the RX, with DIS and a camless setup, and do away with the MAF, and throw an IHI VF34 on there from an STi....Anti lag and blah blah blah............ BUt anywho, I dont know much aobut those EA81 cars. I think camber adjustments will be easy. Slot those towers. Find some shorter, stiffer springs...some GRIPPY 13 inch tires...like 175/50/13 Sumitomo HTR200 tires. I could go on. -
on EA82 cars, they are the same.

New stuff for our old stuff, nuts only!

hot AZ rock crawling? Maybe....id use one of those IR/laser temp guns, and see how hot it is getting. I would think that anything over 220 would be bad...but thats me. -
**DO NOT USE FUEL FILTER BELOW ON FUEL INJECTED CARS, SAFETY ISSUE** ok, Ive got us EA82 FI nuts a new fuel filter. Its a NAPA Gold 3002. I put it on both my GL-10 and RX, both turbo cars, and they have not been starving for fuel. Best of all, these filters are clear, so you can see when its time to change them. They list for $5.84...i got them alot less than that...since I work there. For those of use who want an oil cooler, on page 318 of the PSA 2003 NAPA Catalog, object I. Its a thermostatically controlled oil cooler adapter. it WILL work on our EAXX subarus, and from what i hear of the factory unit on the Euro cars, this unit is the same as it as it is sandwiched between the oil filter and the pump. The t-stat starts to open at 160 deg F, and is fully open at 180 deg F. also on those pages there are cooler kits, and lines and such...on the page before, there is a section of trans coolers... 1-7515 is the cooler adapter part number. its around $30. I plan on using the 1-4822 trans cooler core, its 7.5 by 12 inches, and 3/4 inches thick. Its around $40 I think. Both of these parts are in the ATP line code. I did have a pic of the fuel filters installed...but they ahve dissapeared somewhere into the depths of my many subaru pisture directories...so...yeah. There was sometihng else...Oh, just for the heck of it, I am running Catrol GP SAE 50 Racing oil in the RX... And then.....i have nothing new for the MOMO/Grant steering wheel project OR camber plates. My life has been busy with an actual job, and trying to keep both cars legal, and running. So far the RX is running better than the GL-10...soon, it will get the XT6 FT4WD trans put in....I promise before X-mas. And then....i go and surf thru the rest of the board!
-
i dont really know. From autozone its like $40.
-
cheap as in 10% over cost...for NAPA to get them. i work for NAPA, and we can get Grant Steering wheels. I have yet to price any...but costs online are LOW compared to MOMO...i tihnk the rally wheel I want is like $70.
-
ok, thanks! Now what about the legacy and impreza hubs?
-
Again, does anyone have any information?
-
10w-30 does fine in my soobs. And I drive the RX like MAD. And you can see the motor in my GL-10 in my sig.

STB's woudl be great to use on the subes. But no one makes them. subspeed has some...but they are custom made by that guy. 5 lug is hard to come by, we use the XT6's for the donor parts, as the XT6 is a hybrid car, of hitech EA82T stuff and legacy parts. I dont think anyone has relly tried to use any striaght up Legacy or impreza parts tho... Pugs are hard to find, if there were an easy way to use 5 lug, then everyone would be doing it...but pugs seem to be easy'er...just bolt on after you find a set. Some ppl have used 6 lug wheels redrilled. I DID find some one in OZ that had redrilled hub on his RX to use some kind of common 4 or 5 lug wheels. But i dont remember anything else about him or the car....

WIth the XT package on the front, and the XT springs/RX shocks on the rear....it was all good. OVERSTEER!!!!!!!!!!!! I also had stock swaybars front and rear. I have an 18MM on the rear now, but its raised back up for gravel useage. Lowering the front got the camber to zero on the front...then it traveled to the negative 0.5 range. Excellent handing....but the springs were too soft. I'd love to get some extra RX springs and cut them properly. That would be massive.
